  1. hehe, obviously I need to make a bigger bed now
  2. Maybe this will give you a smile too I was looking for a snuggly dog bed pattern I could sew up that didn't hurt my wrists too much. I found one in the Off Topic Arts & Crafts section that I adapted a bit for the prototype Finished bed ... Sarge was the first to have a snuffle around in it.... Yep, he likes it ... Likes it much better on the lounge .... Poor Sarge ... xxx
  3. Tokkie, the weather should be fine with maybe a late shower, max 19. Madeline will have her party dress on too With the competitions, you just show up at the time they're on. You can enter as many as you like because they're on one after another, not at the same time. I'm entering Maddie in just about all of them, if I can borrow somebody's kid we can go in the 'child's best friend' one too
  4. Wish I could be there. I've put links to the Oscar's Law website on my Homepage and Links/Rescue page, also put another link to OL's 'Gallery of shame' which has pictures of puppy farm dogs and conditions. I do agree with the Steve's comments in red in the previous post. I'm very supportive of the concept of Oscar's Law but I did think the same as Steve when I read that page... only because I know that some registered breeders are no better than puppy farms, and I'm concerned that an actual puppy farm business is able to be registered with the ANKC and can advertise itself as a 'reputable breeder' due to its registration.
  5. It will be like a mini DOL meet! Bet the dogs will want to play when they see each other I'm really looking forward to catching up with everyone!
  6. Looks like there'll be quite a group of DOLers milling around the competition area . I think it will be a fun day! I'll have my hands full, but Please, somebody remember to bring a camera! Looking forward to catching up with DOLers I haven't seen for a while too
  7. Very happy to hear this news Robbi . Sounds like it was a pretty close call during surgery, how scary! Yogi, you be a good boy now and rest quietly until you're all better I have some yummy treats for you if you're a very good boy for your mum and don't scare her like that ever again
  8. Oh, Robbi, I'm so sorry . I rarely come into rainbow bridge so I'm just seeing this now! I had no idea that dear old Jess had passed away She was such a darling girl, I'm so sorry for your loss. Rest In Peace beautiful Jess
  9. Will see you there Miss Squish ! I'll bring Madeline along, I reckon she'll win at least one of those competitions that whiskedaway mentioned!
  10. All the best with this little guy Spottychick! Fingers crossed that Tango and Pepper (I have a Pepper too hehe) will be okay with the new bouncy addition. I can certainly relate to worrying about the fate of an undesexed dog being advertised in the paper. Sounds like your heart has already decided what you're going to do The ideal situation would be if the current owners could 'surrender' the dog to you. Let them know it will cost you way more than they're asking for you to get the pup desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, wormed, heartwormed, registered, etc, and you are then going to re-home it to a suitable home (basically doing what they should have done in the first place). I think you'll be able to word it nicer than that though Let us know how things go at the meeting. I think it's a good idea to take Tango with you to see how they go initially. Hugs and blessings to you xxx
  11. How is Yogi today? He was on my mind all night I lit a candle for him next to Jed's. xxx
  12. Oh no!! Not our Yogi boy! Just seeing this now and sending huge healing vibes and crestie kisses to beautiful Yogi. If you need anything Robbi please call me. Big hugs to you too, what a horrible thing to see. Thank goodness you were there! xxx
  13. Another sooky baby here Blessings to all the angels who were involved in this story
  14. I still light a pretty candle for you every night Jed :D Will continue to send healing vibes to you along with so many other DOLers xxx
  15. Thanks everyone, even now I'm getting choked up thinking about it but the universe put this little girl in my care for a reason and if it's best for her to have a new life where she can blossom even more, then that's what I need to give her. The behaviourist has kindly offered to help with the transition, and apart from the play dates, we'll be having a few day visits with Banshee to their new home before it becomes permanent. The behaviourist has also offered to slap me around if I start getting emotional and effect Banshee's transition :D Naturally if it doesn't work out for whatever reason, Banshee comes back to me. Do you guys think I should write up some kind of contract? Also, we've touched on the subject of money, and even though I've spent well over $1,000 on my little love I thought maybe $300 would be fair to cover desexing, microchipping, vaccinations etc, which is what I would have asked for if it had been a regular foster, desex and rehome. I think she needs to be worth something, if you know what I mean, anyone can say they want to adopt a free dog, but if there's a $$ amount attached to it then they tend to think more carefully about the committment. Thank you again for your comments and suggestions. As long as the family has all the information and support I can give them, I owe it to Banshee to see how this goes
  16. Banshee's original story http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...=194927&hl= I'd originally thought that Banshee wouldn't be re-homeable as she had a lot of fear and trauma issues, not to mention being diagnosed with pancreatitis and now being treated for stump pyometra. When I first took Banshee in I had a home in mind, a lady who had asked me to look out for a Chinese Crested to join their family, but I didn't contact her because of Banshee's issues. I figured she'd be staying with me long term. I've already said no to two people who were interested in her (I wasn't considering re-homing her at the time, but they weren't perfect for her anyway). Well, I caught up with this particular lady a couple of weeks ago and I told her about Banshee. I told her all about her issues and how far she had come, and the lady said she wanted to meet her. I told her I was bringing Banshee into the shop with me on Saturday (last week) as KelpieHoundMum and her daughter were coming in to help with Banshee's regular socialising, and also the behaviourist was popping in to see her, so if the lady wanted to meet her she'd be here. Well, she arrived with hubby and the two kids (boy aged nine and girl aged 12) and everyone fell in love with each other immediately! Banshee particularly bonded with the young boy. She happily went for a little walk down the street with them and let each of them pick her up and have a cuddle (including the dad!) She wasn't nervous with them at all ... some pics of their meeting ... Since Saturday we've had some chats about Banshee's history and her current needs and they are aware that Banshee is still recovering from her past traumas. But the family is smitten and want to adopt her. I know Banshee should be having more attention and exercise than I can currently give her. She also bothers the other dogs to play with her and sometimes they try to hide to get away from her bugging them. I had come to terms with the fact that because of her issues she would be staying with me ... but now here's a family who love her as she is and can give her what she needs in a safe, loving environment. She still has some fear issues, which the family are fully aware of, I've spoken to the behaviourist, and she thinks Banshee would be fine as long as they are 100% aware of her issues and continue the confidence building work I've been doing with her. They are moving house at the end of September and I don't want to do anything before then. In the meantime, the behaviourist recommended they take Banshee out for play-dates, get to know her a bit more and make sure this is the dog they want to commit to. I get pretty choked up when I think about Banshee going somewhere else, I love this little girl so much, but I know this family can provide more attention and exercise than I can, and that's what Banshee needs. I also worry because she was a fear biter when she came to me, what if they cross her fear boundry and she snaps at one of the kids? Part of me thinks that it might be irresponsible to re-home her, but then I think of how she sat and waited by the door after they'd left, and the bond she had with the little boy. And how much they adore her even though they know all about her. I'd appreciate some input because my heart hurts when I think about it too much. I selfishly want to keep her with me of course, but I want to do what's best for her. Would you re-home her if you were in this situation?
  17. Have a look at The Beautiful Dog Company range of Bach Remedies http://www.thebeautifuldogcompany.net.au/index.html The 'Content' may be useful for Banjo. I currently have my foster girl on the 'Calm' and it seems to be working. I'm giving it to her directly on her food each morning. The Beautiful Dog Co will be having a stall here on Saturday Sept 4th and can give you more info about the products if you're interested.
  18. Cheers CC . You can see why I love these gorgeous little guys. Banshee's still a bit subdued and hunching quite a lot, sometimes she hunches with her back legs bent as well. But then 5 minutes later she's jumping on me for cuddles , so I just don't know if she's in discomfort, cold, or insecure. She's also on Previcox pain relief while she's on the Clavulox anitbiotics. I rang the vet yesterday and she said just keep her on the medications and we'll see what happens after that. Given that this condition is caused by incomplete removal of the uterus, see if you can negotiate a good deal for what is effectively a correction for a botched job. Interestingly, my friend's bitch (now an old girl) has always had a very attractive scent to male dogs.. Hi Poodlefan . The vet I'm seeing now isn't the one who did the desexing. I guess if it comes down to Banshee having to have an operation and it's definitely stump pyo, I think it might be worth talking to the other vet. My current vet thinks the hormone injection (to supposedly stop Banshee's season - which didn't work) that the first vet gave her may have contributed to it because of the extra hormones. It probably caused the phantom pregnancy as well.
  19. Thanks poodlefan . At this stage it seems surgery is a possiblility *sigh*. Will ring the vet shortly and get some more info Thanks for the links Boronia Thanks CrazyCresties ;). Glad to hear that your two are out of quarantine and snuggled up at home with you now Here's some pics of the crew for you ... xxx
  20. Thanks NicoleL . Glad to hear that your girl was diagnosed and is now okay. Can you tell me how much the surgery was? (PM me if you like), I think I'm going to have to start saving up big time. Something's still not quite right with Banshee, she's not licking as much, but she's a bit subdued and sometimes a bit shakey
  21. I hope it doesn't come to that vetrg, but from what I've read, if the antibiotics don't work again this time then that's the next step In the meantime I'll try to do everything I can to get her immunity as high as possible
  22. Thank you t-time . I still have some probiotic capsules that I used when she was having tummy troubles, before the pancreatitis diagnosis. Excellent idea . I'll start her on them tonight. I've got to get her system as healthy as possible! I'd spoken to a CAM Practictioner (Complementary and Alternative Medicine) earlier this week in regards to using the Bach Remedies for some of Banshee's behaviours, I'll ask her about some of her naturopathic supplements when she delivers the Bach Remedies next week. Thanks for your suggestions
  23. Hope Ebony is okay If this helps, I have 1 dog with kidney disease and 1 dog with pancreatitis. They now both have the same food: Tucker Time roll - Calorie Control Protein 10% Fat 4% Phosphorus 0.3% (needs to be low for kidney disease) and the Nutro Lite dry food Protein 19% Fat 9% Gradually weaned Pepper (kidney disease) over to Nutro from the Hill's k/d dry Pepper also has a calcium and vitD3 powder twice a day on her food. I just took one of her regular urine samples to the vet this morning and her levels are great
  24. Banshee, my 18 month old Chinese Crested 'foster' girl, just finished a 2 week course of antibiotics for stump pyometra a few days ago... that story here http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...p;#entry4708752 . (Stump pyometra is an infection of the 'stump' that's left after the ovaries and uterus are cut and removed during desexing. Apparently it's quite rare for this to happen ... so of course Banshee gets it ) Two days ago she started licking her lady parts again and was getting worse by last night. So, off to the vet again this morning. There's not the same discharge as before but the vulva is a bit inflamed inside. The vet's put her on another 2 week course of antibiotics. On a good note, Banshee did really well at the vet. She peed when the vet patted her but didn't scream or bite. She started to scream when the vet put the stethiscope on her, so I held the round bit of the stethiscope and the vet directed me where to put it on Banshee while she listened with the other end in her ears . We had to work together with a few things like the thermometer and vulva inspection so Banshee thought it was me back there ;) . But I was very proud of her .. BIG improvement From what I've read about this infection, if the antibiotics don't work, then surgery is needed! Has anyone else had a dog with stump pyometra? Or I could use some other vet input, is a second lot of antibiotics likely to work? Would the fact that she has pancreatitis reduce her healing response? What else should I be doing?
