  1. Photos are here: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=210772 and they are great!!
  2. I'm confused. It seemed that you were prepared to take the dog and provide her with a good home and everything she needs (which of course would include desexing, microchipping, vaccinating, worming, etc and the costs associated). You were aware that she may be pregnant and were still prepared to keep her. The only thing that I can see that's changed your mind is that you've discovered she's inbred and now it's all too much of a hassle. So now she's going to the pound. Just out of curiousity, are your Akita and Foxy desexed?
  3. So happy you liked it Cate! Thank you Ker for my ss, the chokkies were perfect . Will be trying the choc drink tonight Banshee did really well for her first meet, I was so proud of her ;) Are there any photos up yet?
  4. Thanks for that info AmandaJ. Gosh, the Enzyplex is expensive isn't it? I'm looking up some extra info about digestive enzymes and found this site about Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency ... http://www.healthypets.com/expaine.html
  5. Just seeing this thread. Hope all is well with little Mickey
  6. Poor Cassie One of my dogs has pancreatitis. It's not a matter of going back on a normal diet for her, she's on low fat forever. You need to be very careful after a pancreatitis attack. I find the Tucker Time roll works really well for my dog. Also no pig ears or other fatty treats. Casster is the chicken mince pet grade or human grade? Pet grade is the whole carcass minced up and is very high in fat. If she's still 'not right' (I know exactly what you mean ) she's nowhere near ready for regular food. She's had a very bad attack and it may be that she'll need to continue to stay on a low fat diet. You need to be very careful and vigilant. Hugs to you and Cassie
  7. I like Cadbury caramello chocolate (blocks, koalas, etc) I have 4 Chinese Crested dogs, 3 girls, 1 boy - Madeline, Sarge, Pepper & Banshee. My dogs only have food/treats with no preservatives. Hope that helps
  8. Of course. It's a shame that the dogs got hold of two lizards, and I hope the second one survives. I posted because apparently inside these four little Chinese Cresteds is the heart of a wild dog which will chase and catch prey. It wasn't to laugh at the fact they'd killed or injured wildlife. I have the backs of the sheds blocked off for lizards, etc but what can I do if they venture out and are seen by the dogs? I'm very glad that none of the dogs were bitten, and that it wasn't actually a snake they got hold of! Glad to hear your cats are inside cats Di
  9. Unbelievable!! I found another one yesterday under a different dog bed... this one was alive! I'm not sure if the dogs brought it in at the same time as the other one, I hadn't checked or washed this particular bed, so when Sarge was acting silly around it I assumed it was part of his dementia and he was getting confused by a little leaf that was on it, so I picked it up to give it a shake outside .... eek ! :D angry lizard underneath hissing at me! This one had lost his tail (I assumed the tail segment I found in the back yard was from the other one) and there was a bit of blood around him. No time for photos, I ran like a big girl to my manly neighbour who came and picked up the lizard and took him to his house to look after. There was a small wound on his tummy and he was probably a bit dehydrated but he should be okay :D OSoSwift!!
  10. And Hobbles!! Pleeeeeeease (where's the begging icon?). I promise not to steal him (I had my fingers crossed when I said that ) Will be great to see you Vicsta I'll come with Maddie. I'll be bringing about eight 1kg Formulas if any rescue/foster people can use them. They will need to be used within a day or two of thawing. If anyone wants me to bring an order for them I'll be popping in to the shop and will check here first so let me know if you need me to grab anything for you.
  11. A customer is looking to board her 9 year old Cocker Spaniel for 4 weeks while she's overseas early next year. She's looking for something small scale with more individual attention for her dog. Any suggestions?
  12. I'd been home for about 10 minutes when I noticed a spot of blood on one of the lounge blankets last night. I checked 4 mouths, 4 bodies and 16 feet but couldn't find any injuries. Pepper was acting a bit funny and jumped on the other lounge, as I went to check her again I saw one of the dog beds had fallen off the lounge. I went to pick it up and nearly wet myself cos I thought there was a snake in it! This is what I saw! It's a dead lizard! Big bugger too. Somehow my pack of wild dogs got it from outside, through the doggy door, up onto the lounge and into the dog bed. Poor thing had lost a tail, half a head and 2 back legs Wish I had a video camera set up at home, I would have loved to have seen what happened and who was involved. ... The lizard has been appropriately blessed and laid to rest edited to change subtitle
  13. Thanks JulesP I had looked at that website but wasn't sure if it was the manufaturer's or a reseller (bit tired today :nahnah: )
  14. I haven't heard of this product, I like the sound of it though. Spottychick could you PM me the contact details and the name of the lady you spoke to? I'd be interested in stocking the mix without the lentils, so maybe it could be worth their while to make a separate batch for both of us. Of course I'd have to trial it for a while first but if all goes well, it could be worth stocking it in the shop
  15. Glad to hear that Caesar is doing better He's had quite an ordeal poor thing. I have one dog with pancreatitis and another with kidney disease. They both do really well on the Nutro lite dry food and the Tucker Time roll (the roll is low in phosphorus which is good for the kidneys, and low in fat and protien which is good for the pancreatitis). My kidney girl also has a calcium suppliment sprinkled on her food. They are both fed morning and night as small meals are easier for the body to cope with rather than one big meal. Do you know what triggers Caesar's vomiting? Is it after eating anything particular? Your vet probably told you that he can't have bones and needs low protien, low fat and low phosphorus foods. I'm not a big fan of Science Diet, but if Caesar is doing well with it and you've seen improvement in his health, then that's the most important thing at this stage. Be careful with treats too, no pig ears or other high fat goodies. I'm looking forward to hearing what his follow up test results are, I hope there's a good improvement. Very glad to hear that he's doing much better. Hugs to you and Caesar
  16. I've just seen this thread and am so glad to see that little Danny is on the road to recovery . Cute picture of the little guy too Just keep giving him small meals to allow his tummy to heal. It might be worth asking the vet if he should have some gastrolite or something similar to help with rehydration. I bet you missed him like crazy when he was at the vets. Even with multiple dogs, when one is missing you really feel it, it's like a void that can't be filled even with all the others there Give Danny a gentle hug from me and the crestie crew :D . Hope he continues to improve. xxx
  17. Awww, how sweet that Tamar seems to be coming out of her shell to initiate playing . Yep, Banshee's a bit of a stopper and blocker too, but she's getting way better. I think she's becoming more sure of her place in the crew and with me and is getting the hang of not having to grab all the attention for herself. I hope Tamar and Myrtie become play pals soon
  18. Banshee's doing fantastically well back home . She's hardly bothering the other dogs at all, I catch her the millisecond before she thinks about jumping on Madeline with an 'uh uh' and tell her to get her toy. She's amusing herself much more now, going to get toys on her own and having a great time throwing them about without needing to play with the other dogs, particularly Madeline. I've been trying to get to the park with them at least every second day, and I've been doing some training at home with Banshee to keep her mind busy. I enquired about a dog walker, but $35 an hour is a bit out of my budget, so I'll continue with what I'm doing at the moment. They all seem to be mingling very happily together, we've had no nonsense or major disagreements so far. It's almost as if - dare I say it - they missed Banshee! and are glad to have her back
  19. It shocks me. It may work for some dogs, but I can imagine some dogs would be absolutely traumatised. Jeune imagines the hounds of hell are on her tail if I ask her very softly, politely and calmly to sit :D :D . Poor Jeune . My little Pepper is like that too. It was around long before Cesar was born! We were taught it in our first ever lesson at an obedience club back in 1987. I hated it (and certain other things about the club and the instructor) so much that I never went back for another class there. The whole "domination" thing really didn't appeal to me then and still isn't "up there" on my list of favourites now for various reasons. Wow! It was probably the new fad, no-fail training method around at the time :p . I'd never seen it until I saw the Cesar Milan video. One of the catalysts for booting out the ex-husband was when he angrily alpha rolled my mini poodle. Idiot. Well there's toileting and there's toileting...I'm happy enough to clean a firm turd off a polished board but my heart sinks if a dog pees on the carpet!! Poops - yay, Wees- boo (well not 'yay' exactly but still better than a wee ;)) Aww, I can just imagine how happy the cat friends were to be reunited :p I agree, one fail was enough for me and Banshee, she's here to stay ;) Yep, it's the dozens of questions you don't ask that can be the problem :p Sounds like your foster dog was a very smart girl ;) I wish I knew what was going on in Banshee's mind. Maybe she thought she was having a bit of a holiday with people she really liked but a week was about all she was up for before wanting to come home again . If she wanted to come home, she'd naturally start to become unsettled. All I know is she's a smart little bugger and worked it so she got to come back . I won't be letting her go again
  20. Thanks Justice Shades, very sweet of you :D As always, I'm open to input, postive or otherwise. If responses to my threads can help me with decisions in the future or help others in a similar situation, then it's a good thing. Unfortunately reputable rescue groups seem to be thin on the ground in SA Rusky and most are breed specific. Mmm, true. Most of the rescuers/foster carers I deal with are individuals, not necessarily the groups familiar to DOL. Unfortunately, as with anything that is meant only for very specific situations and meant only to be implemented by experts, once it gets into public arena, there's always going to be idiots who latch on to it (my ex-husband for one), usually to the detriment of the dog :D
  21. Thanks Greytmate, I appreciate the time you've taken. Here's my responses :D Done I went to their home and ran through everything with them and Banshee Done Agree Banshee wasn't extremely nervous, I think for whatever reason she was very unsettled in the new home. Had she been even the slightest bit nervous with the family, she wouldn't have gone with them. I was in constant contact with them the whole time and we'd covered all of this as the situation was occuring. After lots of communication with the family I knew they weren't in a position to give her everything she needed and agreed that it was best she came back. Thank you again for taking the time to respond. I know it will be of great help to others also :D Thanks Poodlemum The Alpha Roll is a Cesar Milan tecnique where the owner physically forces the dog to the ground into a total submissive position. Absolutely not called for in the situation Dogmad was describing
  22. And you must see so much of it too Dogmad At least the dogs are able to come back to you if needed. Trouble is that people can say what they know you want to hear because they're excited about getting the dog and think they can work out any issues later. Once the novelty of the new dog has worn off, it's often not worth putting in the effort to fix the problems though, easy enough just to return the dog I suppose. Gawd . Poor dog
