She has recently been rehomed to a lovely lady who has another senior Pom. Coco is happy, safe and adored! Imagine my absolute anger when I find out that some weasel is using chezal58's post and Coco's photo as a rescue/fundraising scam! It wasn't me who found it, it was a really smart lady from a Handicapped Pets forum who put all the pieces together and found that this scumbag has posted this scam all over the place, including USA and Russia. It appears that although the scammer is using several different emails and IDs that his original IP is Russian. Most of his posts are straight copies of chezal58's post, including the photo, but occasionally he's tried to translate it and this is what he comes up with ... "Recently we passed the Spitz-girl - aged about 8 years old, whose owner was deprived of legal capacity in relation to dementia (note - a disease characterized by dementia, often occurs in old age). This woman had saved the dog, when she was a puppy 6 months, taking on negligent owners. In the previous house, obviously, the dog was injured tendons on the back foot. This damage has affected the work of foot, foot does not bend, and just hangs. As a result, it can not move her when she defecates and feet look red and inflamed. The veterinarian said the dog needs not only of amputation, but also in the possible removal of two teeth, and the Sun, this work will cost approximately $ 1,000. We are a small organization with limited funds, and we know that will not find so much money to save the dog. I'm not an idiot and I understand that the "lull" it may be our only option, but it is a very good dog. She - A person with a capital letter and has a wonderful happy disposition. She loves people and other small dogs and the only problem is that she hates the wipers in the car and bark at them if they work. Please do not judge me and our group, but if you can offer a solution, a low-paid veterinarian or the other please write in my topic or my lichku.Veterinar also told me that she was vaccinated, and we need to repeat it from time to time, but perhaps it did not help, as her illness is still seen. I'm following up all the links that the smart lady has sent me and I'm posting on all the forums and sites the scammer has posted on. So far this has taken most of the day as there are lots of them and I need to register with each one first, track down the scammer's posts, then post in a new thread alerting the moderators and members about this weasel. I'm also posting under all his posts and letting him know who I am, that I'm tracking him and that I know he's a scammer, and I know this because it's MY bloody dog he's using!! He's also using a black lab called Pauline from an original 2008 post. We're tracking that one as well. He's also doing a medical/disability scam and a coin collector scam. Well, must get back to joining more forums and outing the scammer scum. There goes my weekend I think. If anyone has any other suggestions for getting this scumbag please let me know. I know that the smart lady has reported him all over the place but apparently it's really hard to get to the actual person. I have all the links to his threads, his email addresses and user names if they're of any use to anyone (thanks to the smart lady, not me, I'd never know where to start with that kind of thing!) I don't think I'm allowed to post them here ... but happily will if it's allowed!

I didn't know that PetRescue were putting dogs in the Trading Post ... that explains the text I got this morning "Interested in the purchase of the puppy you have for sale on tradingpost please do get back to me via my email ****gmail.com" . Rather odd since I only have 2 seniors on PetRescue and one has been adopted. I had a look at the Adelaide Trading Post online but couldn't see my dogs anyway. I texted back 'Which puppy are you referring to?" but haven't heard back. I've heard this so often! There are some doozies around. Absolutely! It's about matching the right dog with the right people. I also prefer people to call or email me if they're interested in a dog. I don't use online forms at all, I'd rather have a chat to a prospective adopter and visit them in person. But then, I'm a small, independent rescue, home most of the time, and I'm lucky enough to be able to do it that way :)

This . I buy the human-grade powder too - needs to be the one with glucosamine AND chondriotin as both ingredients have different functions and work brilliantly together. I use it twice a day for the dogs and for myself :)

Has being closed off helped with her barking or other behaviours you were concerned about? Are you still going to get a behaviourist in? :)

I agree I recently had a behaviourist come and see my foster girl, Angel, a very bad abuse/neglect case and I want to do everything I can to help her recover. I completely understand what you're saying Donatella about wanting an expert in the field to explain a dog's behaviour and what recommendations they would have. I too am really interested in the underlying causes of behaviours and if I feel I don't know enough or haven't done enough it's in my dogs best interest to bring in someone who specialises in these areas. In answer to your question, the lady who came to see Angel basically sat with us in the backyard and watched Angel's behaviours and her interactions with me and the other dogs. She commented on all the signals the dogs were using and explained why they were using them. She pinpointed positive signs as they were happening and which signs to look for that would indicate a stressful situation. I was relieved to know that I was doing all the right things for Angel and will continue to make sure she is safe and happy so she can continue to blossom. I also use the Tellington Touch with her as well as my other dogs, although it's taking a bit of patience for Angel to get used to it as she's so fearful of a human touch. Obviously your situation with your little one is completely different to mine, but I wanted to add my support of bringing in an expert if you feel you're out of your depth with your dog's current behaviours. I think it's a good idea to have an outside, objective opinion. It sure can't hurt. Good luck with it and let us know how you go.

Any improvement with Missy and the cats M2S? I just wanted to address a couple of things you mentioned in your posts ... Leaving her outside until bedtime isn't going to train her .. dog's don't understand that sort of 'time out', ie the way it's used for children. After a few minutes she won't have any idea why she's been put outside, she's not sitting there thinking 'I'd better leave the cats alone now'. No, you do not need to hit her, you need to be vigilant when the cats are around so you can step in before she starts to harass them. If you're not stepping in until the cat has started hissing, you've left it FAR too late. Agree. If you're at the screaming stage you've already missed the crucial time when the correction was needed. Good suggestions MnDM

Exactly. It's SO not about the fact that the cat is dead. It's got nothing to do with hunting magazines. This is about the president of PIAA.

It's still up for discussion on the PIAA facebook page http://www.facebook.com/petindustryassociation ... including the hundreds of comments asking for his resignation. It's all over other fb pages too, including overseas sites. I've been watching it all since the picture was first posted and it seems to be going a bit viral, the main reason being that this picture was personally posted by a well known dog trainer, who claims to be an 'animal lover' and is the president of an association which purports to care about animal welfare.

THAT is what makes the photo so distasteful! Steve Austin, president of the Pet Industry Association of Australia (PIAA) promotes and encourages the sale of undesexed puppies and kittens in pet shops and by doing so, supports the puppy & kitten farms that supply the pet shops. He's part of the problem .. kitty is bred (farmed) commercially for the pet shop market, kitty is bought on impulse from the pet shop, kitty is not desexed and has more kitties, too many kitties to re-home, some end up in the pound, some turn feral, Steve Austin goes hunting for the feral kitties.. and still continues to support the factory farming of companion animals and the sale of puppies and kittens in pet shops. THAT is the problem with the photo! There's a good chance he's just killed an offspring of one of the kittens that was sold in one of his 'PIAA accredited' pet shops. He may look like the good guy, working on the feral cat problem, but where did the problem start? What is PIAA doing to stop the sale of puppies and kittens in pet shops? What is PIAA doing to educate the public about the importance of desexing your pet? What is PIAA doing to help fundraise for more cost-effective or free desexing clinics? What is PIAA doing to stop puppy farming? What PIAA is doing is having fun hunting the feral cats, continuing to add to the problem by supporting the sale of undesexed animals in pet shops, and posting the fun on facebook... BTW, the original photo was posted BY Steve Austin on his facebook page.

Thank you for the info in this thread. I recently had (what can only be described as) a deformed 4 month old male Chihuahua surrendered to me last week. It was bred by a Registered Breeder and knowingly sold to a byb who already has 3 tiny undesexed female Chihuahuas and she was looking for a tiny male that would throw tiny puppies when mated to any or all of her tiny females. One of these females was on Today Tonight last year, she had hypoglycemia, and the story was supposedly to raise awareness about the health issues that arise from breeding 'teacup' dogs, but it turns out the owner just wanted the public to pay the vet costs... she's going ahead with using this girl to breed 'teacups' anyway. The little surrendered bloke never had a chance, he had most of the issues listed in the link that was posted. I had to hold this innocent little soul in my arms while he was put to sleep. The breeder knowingly sold a sick, deformed puppy and the owner didn't provide it the vet care it needed. If registered breeders are willing to sell pups like this, then telling people not to buy from pet shops, from the paper or the internet is just useless. And yes, I contacted the Registered Breeder to let her know that the puppy she sold was about to be euthanased.

Hi Kenreb, Sounds like you've got a bit on your plate at the moment. There are always going to be people who question what you do and how you do it, especially if you've recently started up something that appears to be new. I had a look at your fb page and your info section doesn't really give much explanation about how the rescue is run. I like to see lots of info, especially in a rescue page.. who does what, how things work, info on desexing and vetwork, etc. Saves having to ask questions ;) I also like to see where the dogs are going, rather than just 'safe with rescue'. I'm not clear if you rehome to the public, if so, are all the dogs vetchecked and desexed? Do you save dogs and then give them to any rescue who comes along, or do you deal only with ethical rescues, where you know they'll have all relevant work done and be rehomed responsibly? I've been involved in rescue for a while, mostly helping others, but now I'm doing my own thing. I welcome anyone enquiring about what I do and how things are done, be it here, on facebook, or anywhere else. It means they care about how a rescue is run and if they've missed something in my info page, I'm more than happy to have any issues cleared up. I've had my share of meanies, but I'm happy to answer any questions openly and honestly. I don't automatically think that someone may have an agenda or is trying to trip me up or undermine what I'm doing... I just answer any questions. I'm always glad to have supporters who know where they stand with what I do and how I do it. There have been other rescues starting up recently who's goal is purely to get dogs out of the pound. They are rehomed to anyone who wants them, and if they're undesexed at the pound they're rehomed undesexed. They are given to anyone who calls themselves a rescue, regardless of their reputation. And they ask for donations to continue their 'rescue work'. These type of 'rescue groups' are a big concern for others in rescue and it's not surprising that people who are experienced in rescue would ask questions about a new rescue group that arrives on facebook. I'm not having a go at you or your rescue. It's just that there are lots of people reading these threads, not just the people you may have had issues with. They are the people you want to reach and it's very easy to get the wrong impression from a hastily written reply. All the best :)

VC, it's one of those Facebook pages where you have to be on Facebook to open it. So people who are not on Facebook can't see it. AWL Qld's Facebook page is one where people don't have to be on Facebook to see and read. Would you consider changing yours to be the same? It's also one where you have to ask to join the group... can you make it an open page Varicool so people can 'like' it rather than it being closed to the public? I do little ones too, mostly oldies, palliative care, etc. I'm sure we could help/support each other in our venture to continue to save these lovely littlies :)

This was discussed quite a bit in your other thread MTS, you were also feeding a high fat dry food as well. Have you switched Shelley to lower fat foods?

I'm a bit confused hun, I thought you weren't going back to pet mince because your dogs were putting on too much weight from it. The mince in your pictures sure look pretty fatty... but that tends to be what you get with pet mince. Are the dogs still on the high fat kibble or did you find something lighter? From what you've written previously, I don't think pet mince is the way to go for your crew, Missy might be okay, but the others didn't do well on it and gained too much weight. I know the price seems good, but in the long run it doesn't seem the best choice for your dogs.

Hollywood, I also found the Tucker Time roll quite good (fat content is 6%). Again, Australian made and preservative-free. It's completely different to the supermarket rolls.
