Not yet, planning to go on ziggy's this saturday for 8 weeks though!..

I've recently discovered my puppy has a world of his own when he is left in our yard to play (as is expected with a beagle). He would run around the garden/grass and bite/chew at anything he finds. He has a few favorite spots around the garden in which he will sit and look back at me looking innocent!! Anyway, what I would like to know is what is an appropriate game to play with him at this stage? & also for how long should we play with him for not to exhaust his energy... Tried to play fetch but he always just brings the toy to somewhere else. He will follow us around if we started running providing that he is not sniffing around. Otherwise, he would be under "selective hearing mode" with those ears covered!! The problem I have is, when he is outside his puppy pen, he is responsive probably 20% of the time, When he is inside his pen, its a whole lot different. am I able to improve this ?? I really want to bring him out for walks, but I was suggested only to do that after 16 weeks (after 3rd vaccination). Any ideas would be appreciated!!

I don't think it'd be good to leave food for your puppy all throughout the day, then he'll think food is always around, and it may be hard to use food as a driving force for training.

That would be a great thing to join! but first I need to get him not to bite on this leash. I've only taken him outside once for a brief moment, as he is still awaiting his 2nd vaccination. He tends to bite/chew on the leash every time I try to put it on just to see his reaction. I've put it on during his meals so he may feel positive about it, but during other times, he simply bites/chews!! Any idea what I should do with the leash before I have him out and about?

Cheers, thanks for the info. What about fish ? will they benefit from some fish oil ?
-
Hmm, that looks like it!! He does it generally in the arvo, just wanted to make sure he isn't developing some kind of bad behavior...

What's to stop it turning and perforating the bowel? Please do not feed Bobby wings for a few more weeks. he is obviously not able to digest them yet, and no digestive powder will make a difference. Why risk it? I'll take you advice for it, will give him necks instead?..
-
I also want to feed my puppy some raw meat, he's been having some chicken wings/necks and VIP gourmet as per breeder's recommendation. Could I simply give him some raw human-grade meat from the supermarket like beef? or lamp? or roo?

Ahh, what's that special sound the beagles make? (reverse sneezing or something?) Yes, i'm in southside brisbane, i've went to pet city to get a brochure for puppy school, any other recommendations? he can now respond to "come" and "sit" most times as long as he is not sniffing away something!!
-
Cheers, thanks for the link. Well he doesn't like fetching yet, but loves following, so we run around and he seems to enjoy it. He will come to me most times (unless he is sniffing away something!!), and would sit quite well. Have yet to try other skills, but I'm planning to to puppy school and see what they say. Should I let him sniff whatever he likes? sometimes he eats the grass, and chews on tree roots, which i tend to distract him from doing so.. Forgot to mention: his toys, he has a freesbie-like rope, tennis ball, a toy beagle (soft), and a sausage-like dog that has hard bits in it for chewing.

He has access to a kennel. He is not normally inside the house, but is sometimes let in. Hours alone, I'd say about 3-4 hours in total per day not including over the night. He does the barking when he's inside his house after play/meal then he starts doing it (rolling around etc). He also did it once when there was somebody around...
-
You're probably right, but i just want to make sure its nothing bad.. Well i don't really have a routine other than the feeding times and pee/poop time. He generally will play with someone in the house when he is not sleeping at the moment, other times he would be playing with his toys or sniffing/chewing grass etc. Well he is kind of outside, but he's inside a covered area, and there is mozzies during the evening (we get bitten all the time trying to play with him). But he doesn't seem to have any mozzies bite marks.
-
So- what is his routine? does he have running time out on the grass?Puppies need time running around and playing how many little training sessions do you do each day? Do you play things with him? Well he sleeps a lot at the moment, probably half the day he'll go back to his house after playing/eating, sometimes sleeps like a human (on his back) Yes he played numerous times today in our backyard. Loves eating the grass and plants for some beagle reason!! He now comes to me on command and also sits when asked to. But still trying others at the moment. Yes we try to give him to fetch the ball, but doesn't seem to do it yet as he sniffs around the garden, grass, and loses attention, but we try to make noises and he'll run after us.... So that's normal then? Just wanted to make sure as I can hear him rolling around his house.....

Hi All, Need some advice regarding our puppy's recent behaviors. He has been quite good overall since we've got him. He's a Beagle @ 11wks now. During the evening, He tends to play inside his own kennel rolling around and barking quite loudly for no apparent reason. He would look like as if he was playing with his toy and wanting to bite (esp. his house). He currently stays in a semi-indoor environment with his own pen area and a house. But what I would like to know is whether its because his teeth are hurting? or is it because of the mozzies? or something else? Any help would be appreciated....!!

Well he seems to chew on it for a long time (about 30mins). and he seems to poop okay at the moment, but I actually don't' know how to tell if he is pooping abnormally....

BobbyTheBeagle replied to Tiger_bluez's topic in Puppy Chat
I thought i should introduce my new pup here too ;) Name: Bobby Sex: Male Age: 10 weeks Colour: Tri Breed: Beagle Loves: to sniff and bite the leaves/grass/flower pot, loves to be tickled, loves to pretend he is very adorable so he could potentially get some food! -
Ok, i checked his poop again today, and i found another piece of chicken bone, say about 1.5-2.0cm long. Is that Okay??
-
Well our grass area ain't that big either, just thought i'd be good training for it to poop in one area. Pee is alright anywhere i guess, as long as its in the grass. He does his smelling action before he poop/pee, so when he does that I pick him up to the spot of preference?
-
I've been told by my breeder to include raw chicken wings as a part of my new 10wk old beagle puppy's diet. However, I'm not sure if its what everyone else does as well? His teeth seem so small at the moment and takes a long time to eat one wing (which is good). But from his Poop, I did see a small fragment of bone, is that okay for his intestines? Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks for your compliment, I have to thank all the people here as without these advice, i'm not sure where to go! Today's update: He seems to be able to hold much longer than I expected now, probably 4-5 hrs? as the last time he peed, and it was lots! Now, i've been taking him to the grass area to pee and poop. I say "pee pee" before he does it and also give him a treat. However, never had a chance to say "poo poo", because I can't never tell he is going to poop until he does it. Also, should I limit where he pees/poops on the grass? as I can't seem to find a good way to do that without getting myself peed on
-
Well i think it was alright - but to be honest, i wasn't really sleeping, worried that he may pee inside his pen! So i pretty much woke up every hour or two, but I took him out at about 3am and he peed a little which was good. And he did it again at 6ish. After that, I given him his breakky then he went to poop for the first time. But as he went in, he still had a another poop to go, so......there was a poop accident... More to come I guess...!
-
Thanks for the advice, i will get a crate for him tomorrow. (Should have got it today actually!!) As for tonight, I can only leave him inside his pen, and hopefully get up to let you pee....
-
I completely agree - I have done the news paper on the floor overnight, but it is a pain to then teach the dog to go outside - I would prefer to just get up every few hours for a couple of weeks than have the trouble of teaching the dog to go from the paper to outside. His name is Bobby. Well he's had 1 accident inside his pen. I wasn't sure if he really wanted to go....... I am planning to get a crate for him tomorrow to start crate training. But i'm just worried about him peeing in his own crate over the night if one forgets to let him out to pee. What would they do? would they hold on to the pee? and if it were 2-3 hours, would that mean 3 times during the night to let him out to pee? To "the spotted devil", what do you mean by growing into their Ears??
-
Thanks for the reply! What about during the night, should I leave one of those pads for him to pee ? or would they just chew it up??

Hello all, My first post here, hope somebody can clear my questions. I've purchased a 10wk old beagle puppy just today and picked them up from a breeder. And was needing some advice. 1. is it normal for them to sleep a lot? He tends to wake up for 1-2 hrs to play/eat etc, then go back to sleep. Probably cycled through 3-4 times today!! 2. He makes some whinging noise when he wants to pee. But other times, he doesn't pee. How do I know when's the right time because i don't want to bring him out of his little area just because he whinges. And does he whinge because he's not used to the environment? Here are some photos: Would appreciate any advice!. Thanks!!
