  1. Assistance Dogs Australia don't offer this service. I'll email Luigi's owner I think. Thanks Minimax. What a complicated business! And I can't find an actual service dog training org in NSW that provides training for you and your dog, other states yes.
  2. Thanks for the info bdierikx - I had already emailed assistance dogs australia last night, so that is good to know about them. Another organisation I was looking into isn't listed above so would be pointless going with obviously. I am hoping they offer a service where they can check out the dog for suitability before I buy it. I was looking at buying a pup, but I may go for a 1 year old dog instead as its personality will be clear at that age. The dog will be a retriever. I need the dog to go everywhere they are allowed. Lollipup - is the dog a fully accredited assistance dog or just a companion dog with medic alert training? And thanks.
  3. Yeah there is yearly training, I read that in the application form for an actual dog and the owner is expected to participate in the training. Minimax - assistance dogs are given to people who can look after a dog as in walk, feed, vet care, training, control the dog when out, give firm commands etc etc. Thanks cleo's corgwyn - mind dog doesn't apply to me, however it is good such an organization exists.
  4. Thanks simply grand, hoping to email some places tomorrow as well.
  5. Thanks Megan will do and the unregulated stuff is also what I noticed.
  6. Thanks for the responses and thanks for the warning simply grand. I have been googling quite a bit but I have found it's not exactly a black and white process to obtain info. There is a lot of info on how to get an already trained dog though.
  7. Hi, Does anyone know about how you would get your own dog (future) trained to be an assistance dog (with full public access rights)?.

    Samoyed

Hi all, I am needing some good NSW breeder recommendations as I really don't know who to go with anymore. PM me if you don't feel comfortable discussing it here. Thanks
  10. Umm no! That would be like trying to raise the perfect child :D . It's never going to happen because no living creature is "perfect"
  11. Jetpets have an excellent reputation http://www.jetpets.com.au/jetpets_article....e=international
  12. If your dog can't handle tougher bones, then switch to just feeding chicken necks as the bone source. Chicken necks have soft non sharding bones that are perfect for pups, oldies and other dogs that can't eat a normal bone. Be careful how much mince you feed to, meaty bones should make up the bulk of the diet, because they provide esssential calcium and protein the dog needs everyday.

    Samoyed

For those that use a crate (all wire) for their samoyed at night time. What size do you use?. I will be getting a female samoyed and I am currently trying to decide what size cage to buy. I want one that is roomy, but not huge. These are the two I am looking at. Any help would be great http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/dog-cage-p...63-w559-h635mm/ http://www.dealsdirect.com.au/p/metal-dog-cage/

    Husky Puppy

Sorry, it is very hard to tell from your previous posts what is actually going on with the pup. She needs to get a professional dog trainer in to help her. She also needs to make that pup very much part of her family inside and outside of the house, or she may as well give it away now. Keeping it solely in the backyard is cruel for a husky (or any puppy for that matter).

Didn't see your post when I was editing - I also said they don't do well as outdoor dogs.

    Husky Puppy

Huskies are very smart dogs, even from young puppies and some huskies are far more challenging than others!. I might be wrong but this pup sounds like it has no respect for it's owners and has already assumed top dog status. I had a husky that was the same (not timid though). The huskies owner needs to show the pup who is boss (in a loving but firm way) and always be one step ahead of what the pup is thinking. She can NEVER let the pup get away with anything, dogs like this should NEVER be smacked either because they will retaliate with a bite. I used the bark busters method on my husky and she was never allowed on the lounge or my bed, or anywhere that she would get the idea that she was ahead of me in the pack. Huskies also need to be included in everyday family life and they do not do well as purely outside dogs, they need to have a balance of both indoors and outdoors. They are very much a pack animal and the human family is their pack. Unfortunately your friend has just stepped into the high maintenance world of the siberian husky and this is why so many huskies end up in rescue. Did she thoroughly research the breed before buying?, so she was aware that they are very different to normal dogs?.
  17. Hi all, I'm currently deciding what food to feed the pup I plan on purchasing. I have been looking at dry dog food, but it is $$$ for the good quality stuff. I previously fed my late husky on a raw food diet for 12 yrs, following the give your dog a bone guidelines (ian billinghurst). However I think that longterm the diet was somewhat deficient in nutrients. My dog ended up with arthritis and neurological problems, which may or may not have been due to lack of essential nutrients. I will never know. It did give her great skin though and fixed her wheat intolerance. From the internet searches I have done it seems that studies into the natural diet have found similar findings, that it is hard to get it completely balanced longterm. Has anyone fed their dog on a raw diet longterm? (over 8 years straight), were there any health problems?. I would love to feed raw again if the right balance can be found. Thanks
  18. GayleK, the adult food does look good. I will keep it in mind for when we are out of the puppy phase I think.

That's good to hear. I will keep with the incorrect way then. Saying "sam a yed" (like hammer head) just feels weird.
  20. Gaylek, thanks for the link - the puppy food has wheat flour in it which I am trying to avoid Odd as the site clearly says "no wheat" in their products..
  21. Thanks for the link :p I have checked out that site before, it's confusing as to which dog food is the best though, yet doesn't cost an arm and a leg. I'm not looking to spend anymore than $30 a fortnight on dry food, that's for 1 dog. Thanks
