I'm jealous! Are they an imported pet or are they going to work for breed recognition. He said he was an import, he was his pet in the US and when he moved here for business he brought him along. His vet here refuses to believe it isn't a rotty x golden OMG, I just googled them- what beautiful dogs. Just googled them too. OMG they are beautiful I can see why the vet thinks they might be rotty x golden - pics on google showed them with the looks of a golden but colours of rotty

If you put a note in their letterbox at least have the guts to put your name on it! At out last house our new neighbours put a note in our letterbox signed "the neighbourhood". I knew it was not from "the neighbourhood" as we were good friends with all the other neighbours! Had they politely knocked on our door and let me know I would have done what ever I could to stop the barking as I was unaware of the problem. (dog was barking at night at the back of our block and our bedrooms are at the front). As it turns out it was their lights left on all night that was causing the barking not my blind dog getting disorientated as I first thought. It's not about "guts" Kmaci, it's about protecting my own dogs. Unless you already know the neighbours are nice people, then I would not ever risk my dog's safety by assuming that they were nice. Sure most people are nice, but some aren't. As I said above, I have heard first hand of cases where the ranger was called in retaliation to get back at a neighbour who had (politely) told another that their dogs barked. I have heard first hand of cases where dogs were baited because the neighbours had a feud that started over a silly thing like this. One of my friends was physically threatened because they asked their neighbour to turn the music down. My aunty's cat was shot with a BB gun by a neighbour after she asked them to mow their lawn. So unless I knew the neighbours already, and knew they were OK, I wouldn't risk it. My dog is too important to me. She is home all day alone, and very vulnerable. It may sound paranoid, but I bet the lady whose dog was baited wished she'd been a little more paranoid when she got home & found her dog dead. I hope that explains my reasons better. Plus, from the other side, if my dog was barking, I'd far rather have a polite note in my mailbox, no matter whether it was signed, than have someone call the ranger on me. Understand now. Under those circumstances would agree.

Why Does My Dog Poo Every Time I Do The "poo Patrol"?
kmaci replied to fiveplusone's topic in General Dog Discussion
What I do find hard to understand is why people fill up their bins with plastic bags and poos when all you need do is bury it in the garden. All that plastic binned by millions of dog owners contaminating the environment is pretty scary. Even if you have several dogs and/or big dogs, it breaks down so quickly. You don't need are large yard and if you have a small yard, just dig a hole drop in the poo every day and cover with a bit of soil or leaves and put a brick over the opening so dogs can't fall in or dig in it. You would use that one hole for a long time. Think of the "long drop" toilets in National Parks. I have 5 dogs (little admittedly) and I just use a trowel and a dust pan. People with larger dogs could use something larger. to be honest I never thought of doing it that way. do you have a smelly area in the back yard? -
I know nothing about the breeds you have chosen but I would recommend going to dog shows to meet breeders of the dogs on your short list (as well as their dogs). With kids in the future I would look into the temprement of what ever breed you choose. 14ish years ago my husband and I did the same thing (ie purchased fur kids before our kids). We were mainly looking at temprement. We ended up with 2 golden retriever sisters. My MIL was not happy as she expected us to get a dog from the pound but it was very important to me to meet the pups parents. We met our girls mum and grandmum and were very happy with their behavour. Our girls were great with our kids!

Did You Buy Your Puppy From A Less Than Reputable "breeder"?
kmaci replied to PoppyDog's topic in General Dog Discussion
My goldens (sisters) were purchased from a lady from the outer south eastern suburbs. The pups mum and grandmum were there and in good health. The pups were outside undercover and the area was clean and cosy for the pups. Both mum and grandmum had papers but the pups ddnt. Our girls lived to 13 and 14 with their only health conditions due to old age. When we brought a lab afew years back the conditions were similar. The woman owned both the sire and bitch, had papers for the bitch but not for the sire (she thought she was buying for reputable breeder, but no papers were ever forthcoming). Both dogs were healthy and had wonderful temprements. Once again we had no health problems with our pup. I assume both our puchases are what people would call BYB but we had no problems. -
We got our dogs before we had kids. They were our babies before our babies. We had to put one girl to sleep early last year and the other early this year. My kids were devistated as they had only known life with them. My daughter said it was like she lost a sister

Just wondering if some breeds of dogs get on better with cats than others? Or does it not so imprtant if you get a puppy when you have an adult cat?
-
There is no evidence to suggest that white boxers have any higher incidence of having cancer than any of the other colours in the breed. It is just a colour after all. Unless i've missed something? ;) Is there eveidence to back up your claim that white boxers are more susceptible to anything other than deafness? If there is i would like to see it. I was told (by a boxer breeder many years ago) that white boxers can get skin cancer because it's the colour (ie red/brindle etc) that protects their skin from sun damage. Don't understand how that works, but that was what we were told.

How sad, but I'm glad to see that they are recovering. I dont understand how any sane person could do this!

We dont have any dogs at the moment , but when we do my OH wont let them on his leather sofa, so I'm on the floor with the dogs whilst he's on the sofa with the cat.

Dont forget the health problems. A friend of mine brought 2 maltese x shihtzu's from pet shop. One has a massive underbite and they need to brush her teeth everyday with a toothbrush good luck! -
Would dalmatians and weimerana's run well together? Does the sex of the breed make a difference?

There's an 8 month old dally advertised in the "Dogs for Sale" section without papers. Is this wrong too?

I agree with poodlefan. At our last house we got new neighbours that had a small dog that would bark alot during the day when they first moved in. Within a week or two it stopped (not completely but to the amount I would expect a dog to bark). Allow your dogs time to settle and if your neighbours do have issues let them know what you are doing to fix any problems
-
hopefully they weren't plugged in at the time we have a second hand burmese who LOVES beanies, stuffed toys, socks, woollen gloves, woollen jackets, defrosting meat that must weigh more than her and pipe cleaners when we had 2 GR they would often help (not) with the gardening and then ate the electric fence that was meant to keep them out (yes it was on but obviously not enough!) I used to think they were bad, but not anymore..................... ps note to self - dont read thread about destructive dogs to OH who is not keen on another dog
