I'm more inclined to feel that the first time family are actually better off with a puppy than with a Rescue dog. It really depends on the dog of course and what it's background is. But a rescue can have some issues whereas the puppy is a clean slate. The important thing is they are willing to accept that the dog is their responsibility for life, that they take it to puppy school, keep it socalised and look after it accordingly. Of the three you listed I would say Golden Retriever, but there are many other breeds that fit the bill.

Hang in there China. Sending healing vibes.

6 weeks old!!! C'mon, really. Sounds like a bit of hype or a huge "Type O" to me.

Not wanting to draw a comparison but...the Jews were told if they registered themselves, they too would be safe.

You are so right Maxiewolf. It belitttles the severity of the death of a child to go around building up hype over the (albeit sad) death of a small dog by a larger DA animal! I wonder if the media "jumped" on it because the animal in question is a Bull terrier X?? Unfortunately these things can even occur between "yardmates" if things go pearshaped.

At a glance I would say it is a Rottie/GSD or Kelpie cross??? But it is amazing how many mixed breeds can come up with something that resembles a cross breed dog. There is no way of telling unless you know it's breeding.

Poll On Yahoo - Should Rottweilers Be Outlawed In Australia

Oh my Dog, has the world gone completely mad!!!!! I have lived with GSD phobea for 50 years but I have a feeling there will be a tick list that will just go on and on until they follow the same mistakes of Italy and Holland!!! -
I don't know, many dogs appear to be highly territorial and I'm sure the noise of the kids excites them but really probably wouldn't do anything. As long as they are contained in their yard, I think it is unfair to report them and have them possibly declared dangerous or euthanized. Is some kind of behavioural assessment required after a call is made to the hotline, or is just my word against yours.... My dog really carries on when people come to visit, she sounds what many would think vicious- in reality she'd the most injury she would probably do is jumping on the person/child in excitement to give kisses. It is a fear/excitement thing with her, obviously I'm trying to discourage it due to the current climate of dog attacks and fear of dogs. I'd hate for her to be reported as a dangerous dog based on barking alone... Idon't know Aussielover, my German Shepherd is very territorial and will "send off anyone who walks past the front of our house. But he totally accepts that our neighbours (who he can see through a rural ringlock fence "belong" in their yard and they can do whatever they please within their own property and he doesn't mind. That is as it should be.

So if you had a Staffy Mastiff Cross for example that is unregistered would it be wise to quickly register that animal as a Staffy/mastiff cross before the powersthat be decide it's a Pitbull?? ( I know someone and worry for their dog.)
-
Remember that "Pick the Pitbull" thread with photos that was up on the BSL thread? That was a really difficult one to do? I dare say it would be equally as difficult for any "Ranger" to come to the conclusion that a certain crossbreed is a "PB type" either.
-
Dude pitbull types breeds are widely available and certain other restricted breeds are also available (especially Dogo Argentino) if you know where to go... The dog I would really like though is Fila Brasileiro So, you plan on backyard breeding, unpapered restricted breeds then? Why?

OK going back for another look...with volume That will only reinforced why you tend to leave the volume off. ;)

I'm pretty sure she didn't sell the house for $5000. She sold it about $40K under market value so she could make a quick sale. She is now living with her mum and there are three little dogs in the household now. The disease cause the dogs heart to become dangerously enlarged.

Puppy farmers ship pups at 35 days as a rule. That puts them in the pet shops at 5-6 weeks. Plenty of BYBs will let them go as soon as they're weaned also. Oh that makes me mad. Twice in my life I have taken on a five week old Puppy (and kitten) because the owners wanted "rid' of the unwanted babies. No money passed hands. They both needed a lot of care and attention and in the case of the kitten my bitch "nursed" it until she began to lactate! Such a good fostermum she was.

It's sad to think that this lovely little dog was probably breed for a pet shop out of unhealth tested parents. The odds are stacked against these poor little DD SWF's when it comes to health issues. Poor unsuspecting owners are often caught between a rock and a hard place in these cases.

So who is selling puppies at 30 to 40 days?

I didnt say he was funny or cute. I said it was great team work! However one must admit there is an air of "comic relief" in the way the routine is presented. No one would seriously 'use' a dog of this size to do this work, it's clearly limited with it's feet off the ground, ;) but it does illustrate wonderfully the trainability of various breeds. There is no comedy there The laughter on the soundtrack would indicate otherwise.

It is very interesting the slant on dog breeding. In the horse world most matings come with a "live foal guarantee". There is always the option of substituting a failed conception with another mare. Very important to have a contract or very clear understanding of what is involved. I guess I was lucky that the Stud Dog owner had no qualms about letting us try the next season time when the first mating attempt failed. I guess it has to be made very clear on the onset what happens if no conception occurs.

I would "subscribe' to her "newsletter"!

Now there is supervision and there is "standing nearby, relaxing at the BBQ, having a chin wag and assuming the dogs are okay with kids" ..despite the kids NOT being part of the family and visiting peoples home where perhaps a "high pitched toddler is an unusual occurance for the dogs of the house. Before we had kids if any of our friends came over with their babies/kids I simply put my dogs out or 'away' from the children. That way both were going to be okay. Nothing should ever be assumed when it come to children and animals...particularly in combination.

That is very sad to hear when any beloved pet is set apon by a DA dog with a bit of grunt behind him. Poor fellow. So wrong to have an animals at large, but particularly an aggressive one. Seem to be seeing alot more Dingoes as Pets these days. Beautiful creatures. Only this morning I saw a man walking three on lead, along with a small white fluffy and what might have been a Dingo puppy if they come in black??? All beautifully behaved.

Awesome...I nearly peed myself when the guy ran off and the dog latched on to his arm.

I heard it on Channel Nines 6.30 pm news. It was a non biased report about a poor 77 year old lady who was attacked in her yard by a pair of German Shepherds and was "driven back into her home and received bites to her ankles". Whilst I am not trying to make light of this poor womans experience. It is true that it would not have made the media two weeks ago. It probably would not have even been reported to the media but been delt with on a local level. My ex's Grandmother received similar injuries when the familys Rodesian Ridgeback Puppy decided to be too playful and was snapping at her ankles. She had scratches everywhere before a family member was able to intervene as the old lady was unable to stop the dog. Without knowing the full story behind this particular dog attack it can easily become fodder for the media. The frail tissue thin skin of the elderly and the sharp teeth of a puppy are not a good conbination. Again, it comes down to someone not tending to their animals properly. um, a grandmother was attacked by two dogs on her own fenced property - that would always make the news in Melbourne. Please don't compare that with someone having their ankles bitten by a puppy for goodness sake. I am against BSL. But I'm also against dog lovers saying calling what has happened recently (a child killed by a dog in her own home!) media hysteria. What has happened in both these cases is disgusting - nothing hysterical about it. You would be surprised how many dog attacks do not get reported to the Media and are delt with between council and owners, or owners and Solicitors. I wasn't comparing ankles being bitten by puppy, I was highlighting the vunerablility of certain demongraphics in the community. In this instance the elderly. BTW the "puppy" was a 8 months old RR and the elderly lady required medical attention.

It certainly does sound like these two dogs were totally out of control.
