Hi Leema, I have been reading and following with interest. Poor litle pup. Such a poor start to life and now this. I hope you get to the bottom of it and soon. Are either possible conditions contagious? I believe the mange isn't IF the dog is in good health and balance. Wondering if the others are at risk of developing same? I hope your vets will be able to do a definative diagnosis and begin correct treatment soon.

I cant see it being the same as a Phantom as we had the pups and she lost them ( reabsorbed at 42 days) This is just so odd, no breeders I have spoken to have seen or heard of the symptoms my bitch is having, very odd!! Actually I believe the hormones are very similar in a phanton to a real pregnancy. Athough reading your post the weight loss is a real worry. It does sound like she is depressed. Is she eating at all? Poor thing. Hopefully it will end after she reaches her due date and hormones petter out. Wazzat, ar we 100% sure there isn't one left in there? There could be a Solo Xolo? I know you are watching her closely so no need to say that...
-
Oh Wazzat, that is sad. for all concerned. But the same thing can happen with a phantom. Don't worry...this to will pass.

It will be interesting to see how many are in there! She will be 'so over it' by 9 weeks. ;)

Okay so Crystals favourite thing has never been going onto wet grass in the morning. She often hesitates and steps gingerly onto it to pee and poo. But then she is a bit of a Princess, ask anyone who knows her But now and for the past few weeks she is refusing outright to step onto the grass and has been pooing on the front wooden deck and peeing just on the edge of the grass/path where the pee then runs onto the path. Very annoying. So I've had to clean up after her, especially as OH lets her out in the morning when I'm at work and I find the evidence when I get home. No problem in the afternoon when the grass is dry, just mornings and late at night before bed. So this morning, being Sunday I decided to take her out on the lead, she was reluctant but peed and pooed on the lawn. Good girl Crissy! That was at 5.30 am then when we both got up again at 8.00 am I sleepily let her out the front door thinking she needs to pee as she just had a drink. After a couple of minutes I see her standing at the front door and go over to let her in. What is she doing? Having what appears to be a little pee on the decking. Yep, she's left a wee puddle!! Well, I'm going to tell OH to take her out on the lead now anyway as she is a few weeks away from whelping her bub(s)so we can control this problem but I just find it so weird that she's gone all..."Oh, no no wet paws pleeeze" at this time" With no real problem over winter or previous years (she's three next month). Ah, well I know I had some bizarre likes and dislikes during my pregnancies so I so understand.

I got the strongest impression it was a business and not an interest/hobby/passion. And they appear to have lost interest in the business and are looking for a lifestyle change. Let's face it, that many dogs take a big chunck out of your life. I don't think I could do it if I didn't have it counter balanced with showing and getting together with like minded people who share their interest. And BYB abd puppy farms don't have that.
-
Purely a business. And as a business appears to be well run and humane.

I agree with dancinbcs. Maybe the owners are just trying to find out if there is any history of this type of thing? In some ways it is nice to get feedback about a dog you bred, as usually by this age people would just put anything the dog gets down to aging and wear and tear etc. Most owners would be unlikely to contact the breeder of a 8 year old dog to tell them what was going on or of an elderly dog who is recently deceased to advise the breeder of what condition it passed away with. Maybe they just want to get their heads around what is happening to their beloved dog. They may also have been hopeful of any alternative explanation you may be able to give them?

My Cavalier bitch who is expecting ONE pup is from a litter of seven! I can feel one little bump on her, she is so keeping her figure!
-
Fits the criteria! But you must promise photos, details etc. etc.
-
At three weeks gestation is it at all possible (provided there is no urgency due to an injury) that an ultra sound be done in 7 days to confirm IF in fact the bitch is pregnant?

Don't be silly, they are doing you a favour by taking the dog off your hands! I have heard this one a couple of times recently re a rescue. Rare breed that is difficult to find the right pet home for and that some breeders will sometimes home without charge to proven companion homes for this reason. My reply is always that, yes, there are not a lot of suitable homes out there so we will be waiting until the right home comes along. What people aren't considering is that money is not the only currency. A breeder or rescuer who has known someone for 20 years might send a companion pup to them without charge because the 20 year person has already "paid" in devotion and a lifetime's care for their animals. Whereas someone who asks for a cheap dog hasn't paid anything in time and energy. I also see the purchase price as proof someone can scrape together enough money to take the dog for a mid-range vet visit without too many hassles. But getting into that conversation is pointless when you're saying no anyway. Edited becos i cant spel That's how I got given my first horse! They had already had a huge offer from a person who Show jumped but they knew he would have a forever home with me and gave him to me.

Crystal is like this, big boobs and not much shape change at day 41. But we KNOW she only has the one puppy in there! Good Luck becks.

I don't know!!!! Maybe all the "landscaping" she does She also does a lot of climbing over rocks etc I check them regularly because I've seen the results of them grwoing too long in other peoples dogs. We do it for free as part of a regular consult/check up or if they are having another procedure done. But I have found some people very resistant and annoyed that they have to pay for "just a nail clip" Typically these are people whose animals are very difficult to restrain and require two people at least jsut to clip the nails! Ah..so she's "paws on" with gardening.

Sounds sensible as long as the pup doesn't get too large I'm expecting 2 fat lumps from my girl. Her last litter of 5 were very big and as she is 7 years of age she will be having a elective c-section, then desexed next year after our Nationals. Good luck with your "2 fat lumps" I wouldn't mind having a second 'lump' but as this is her first effort at mating I will try with her again next season if a natural delivery or maybe the one after if she has a c-section. See how she goes.
-
So maybe try supplementing some in her diet and see if it comes back. Although be prepared for it to take months.

I have to cut all my dogs nails. I can understand it with the Cavaliers who live indoors. They get Dremmeled and trimmed if I haven't dremmeled recently. But usually once a fortnight it's a trim and dremmel for all. I don't understand why I have to do our German Shepherds all the time though. He gets walked on the roads and has a concrete back area and lawn but he has claws of steel and they don't wear much. The back wears a bit but not the front ones! How on earth do you get away with NOT doing dew claws??? There is no way they come in contact with anything to wear them enough on my dogs. They are a must as far as trimming goes because I can't dremmel dew claws, they wobble too much. Our local vet does claws for free to any existing client as he hates to see them neglected and some people can't do it It's really easy if you just do a bit at a time and my dogs get it done from the day I have them. Except the newborns who get it done the first week with teeny tiny human nail clippers. Better to pay someone rather than neglect your dogs feet IMHO. I do mums dog for her as she can't do it herself. He isn't easy as he was a rescue but he's is getting better with it.

My Bitch Is 7 Weeks Pregnant But Theres A Problem
LizT replied to indigirl's topic in Breeders Community
these are the things one MUST do!! I would travel anywhere for the health and welfare of one of my bitches! IN fact we have just lost a litter and we travelled over 400ks just to make sure she was ok, but I guess everyone is different, to me the dog is number one priority No matter what the cost or travel!! Its not a question of my dogs 'health & welfare". Im frustrated I cant access the vet services I want until next week. Whilst you may be happy to pay more than $200 for an xray - im not, unless the dog has a health issue. I can and have paid this amount twice now for xrays that one of my dogs needed. Ironically I could fly the dog to Sydney and pay for an xray there then fly her home all for roughly the same cost as one xray here! My iggy bitch doesnt need an xray, she is doing fine. I WANT an xray or ultrasound to determine whether she is still in whelp. Likewise for driving a 600k round trip - would be a no brainer if my dog needed it. However I am frustrated that even though there are 2 vets here I cant get a quality ultrasound until next week. Whislt your lifestyle may be conducive to hopping in the car for a quick 6hr trip without a care in the world, mine is more complicated than that. Could i do it? yes if i had to. But it would involve planning and likely some time off work. I have to drive to South Australia on the Sunday, to deliver a dog - unfortunately nowhere near or past a vet. I currently have health issues which make it difficult for me to drive long distance, im already stretching it by the drive on Sunday, I doubt I would be well enough to work Monday if i drove Saturday as well. We dont all have the luxury of being able to rush off at a moments notice unless its an emergency. Some of us have other things we need to consider as well. My dogs ARE my number one priority but I also have a life, and it would make my life so much less complicated if i knew for sure she was no longer in whelp. Try talking to your vet and explaining the situation. He may be able to confirm a pregnancy over the weekend. -
Well done Shimmer but where's the

So now what? A 'class action" with you and the owners who were going by the vets diagnosis of HD. Although you say Vet(s) deny saying she had HD, why then was this poor pup PTS? For limping? Did it overdo things playing with kids and other dog and do a cruiate ligament or tendon or something entirely different and completely out of your control? Although as you say "no real joy" in knowing it didn't have a hip problem, as there are still questions that need answering. But do take what comfort you can in knowing your breeding program is on track.

Fingers crossed that there's another bub hiding in there somewhere! One of Maizie's little girls passed away this morning. RIP little baby. Run free sweet Maizes babe. Well the second scan still shows only one bub. My vet says he will prog. test her at 61 days to see how her hormones are doing. He said the first preference is for her to birth naturally if at all possible as she is rather a big girl, which is why I chose a smaller compact male for her and knowing that there is only one pup in there not to increase her feed but keep her on good quality food and make sure she stays trim and toned and not to let her get fat at this stage.
-
But when they do drop their coat it is with avengence! That's 'cos they are smart enough not to go near a Rooster!!
-
They were probably relieved to see how nice and friendly you were, after they got over their startle. I guess they later realised it was no skin off your nose if they bought elsewhere.
-
I use sentinel. It covers all external and internal parasites incl. heartworm. It's just easier doing one chew once a month.
-
Strange though that her nose has not faded and only her lips. My girls (Cavaliers) get a bit of "snow nose" during the winter but as soon as spring comes and they get to play outside in the sunshine they darken back up again. Is Brewers Yeast okay for dogs? We give it to the horses but grain is their natural diet. It's a great source of B group vitamins and it excellent for the nervous system. I'm sure your vet could tell you.
