  1. I'm really concerned about the word "Zapp" as the one I used on my German Shepherd has a electronic stimulation to the muscle and is more of a "thump" that will increase up to 6 levels before shutting off. It is an "Alert" override whereas if the dog is alert barking due to intruders etc. it will shut off. It is a muscle stimulation and NOT a shock.
  2. Also of note is that 5.00 am is the 'pre-dawn'. There are a lot of birds singing to the glory of the impending sunrise and celebrating the start of a new day. Dogs often react to it in a noisy way. Also if the first rays of light (it doesn't take much) are coming into the room your dog may also be alerting you to the new day as well.
  3. Hi Moonlake and Welcome! Perhaps you could start a thread with this Topic so as to catch the eye of more DOLers.
  4. Nevafollo - Yes I noticed that in the photo you posted. They were very creatively mixed and colourfully combined! I could see they were rubber backed (the rubber backed has the paws on it) or I would have wondered about slippage in the divide and 'lost' puppies underneath. Bjazld - I notice with the green backed (on all colours) that the more you wash it the more softer and like a blanket they get. So far I have had Pale Blue, Pink and Mauve.
  5. makes total sense! That's why I like to chart a daily reading about two weeks before date to get an idea of what is normal for the matron (I like that term better than the 'b' with an itch) and then twice and three times a day during the last week/days.
  6. I use the green backed Vetbed for whelping box with newspaper underneath. When the pups pee it drains beautifully and keeps nice and dry. No chills. I guess with bigger breeds and more pups this will be double important. Some have stated that the rubber back does not drain through as well and is better as a floor/day bed as it is non slip, but most (of the rubber backed) I've seen perish in a short time anyway. I think larger breeds tend to use a whelping box with no floors due to the massive size and ease of moving etc. Putting down some tarp or lino is a great idea. My OH built my box out of Kitchen cupboard 'cut offs' which are waterproof. But my girls are little.
  7. That is so sad. Poor little orphan babies. Poor Maizie.
  8. Congratulations Hilaryho, Bonus two! Gives me hope that my singleton might have someone riding shotgun with it!
  9. Sorry, i didnt quite understand what you mean? She asked repeatedly to take care of him while i was gone because they had not spent time together for a while. Are you suggesting that she did that to him because of me? Sorry not making sense to me So you are saying your ex is not vindictive and you are on good terms she's just a lazy ermm....#@*& ??
  10. That is sad that your dog was neglected like that. I baby sat a Shetland Sheepdog for a work mate of my ex husbands for 6 months. When he returned he didn't recognise his dog. He had left a somewhat 'shabby' (by my standards anyway) male whose coat appeared to get 'broken' alot when being brushed etc. and returned to collect what he described as a beautiful Show Dog.
  11. Isn't he though. I need to go to London to visit him Pet clips can look stunning and just beautiful love them - sadly though after a poodle is 1 year old he can no longer be shown in these pretty pet or puppy clips - its a shame really. I agree, it would be nice if it were more "optional". Although I for one think that the poodle exhibitors deserve accolades and a prize just for the effort they go to (as do many of the High maintenance breeds) I know it's Tradition but I would love to show a Poodle if it were able to stay in a Puppy type Clip.

    Barking!

The bark Collar I had used on our G Shepherd when he was younger (neighbours wrote me a letter of complaint and as I work night shift and OH could sleep through atomic bomb I had to try the collar) has what they call an "Alert Override" where by if the dog is barking loudly and alot, as in the case of an intruder, it would shut down rather than continually 'swack' him. It wasn't an electric shock but a muscle stimulation that became stronger to 6 levels before swiching off.
  13. I switched my Cavaliers from Advance to Royal Canin and their coats improved nicely. Then I couldn't get the big bag of RC so I switched back to Advance. Their coats were not as nice but they have now been on Black Hawk for a month and they have lovely gloss, deep colour and look great. I thought the Emu Oil was the reason for the better coat condition.
  14. Well that sure is a present you can't return.
  15. They are funny, aren't they. This girl of mine has no qualms about strutting her stuff on the wet grass in the Show Ring, and Being a Cavalier the grass is always still wet and sometimes a tad long(ish).
  16. Isn't he though. I need to go to London to visit him
  17. Oh That just makes it worse!!! So....is mum going to pay for the re doing of the signage, website etc.
  18. Really, I'm surprised it got through with such glaringly obvious similarities.
  19. When I read the heading "Do we worry too much?" My first response was "YES". However..."Do we worry unnecessarily?" No. Me too! My sisters Poodle despite regular trips to a groomer in London never is trimmed beyond this.
  20. I know of a number of "same breeds" that start or end with the same first three letters. I can think of two that are very similar, have been around for years and one is exceedingly sucessful in the showring while the other is not. I guess it is all a matter of whether anyone complains (as in your case) or not. I know I didn't get my first choice as it is very similar to another prefix. You have every right to be annoyed.
  21. The weird part is she didn't seem to care that much about having wet feet until now. She doesn't mind the rain dropping on her either???
  22. Miss Precious     Oh, you know she is!
