  1. Awwww Becks.....too cute! So many puppies to play with. I gave Emmie her first taste of meat today and it was so cute. She was so into it! Grrrrrr
  2. Merry Christmas to all as well. Our little girl is now becoming very animated and has gone from being a "blob" to walking wobbling around and my OH has found his calling as a "puppeteer" He is having a ball "face fighting" with her via the soft toys and Emmie really has a go at them. It's so cute when she growls and he makes the "siblings" growl and when she bites their ears he gently gives hers a tiny tug and bumps her with the toy, so she's not missing out on all the sibling fun and stimulation which is really important at this stage of her development. Cheers Everyone.
  3. Aren't they though! I just Mr. Puck. And there is something about little Miss Brittney that you just want to cuddle her! And Miss Mercedes oozes Class.
  4. He used to love to come up the hill with me to feed the horses in the evenings, chattering incentantly as we walked up the hill (very vocal fellow, always talk, talk, talk ) and I used to get really peeved with him on the way back down because he would lay down on the ground just in front of me as I walked back down the hill and I'd nearly go A over T! I would just managed to avoid him as he did it so suddenly, out of the blue and even though it has been a few months since he joined me in our evening walks I wish we could do it again, just one more time.
  5. A "Prefix" is just that, a "Prefix". Just a Stud name that goes before the animals "Given" name. What really determines who the dog is and where the dog is from are the details attached to it's pedigree. Its Reg. No. the Sire and Dams Reg. No., said dogs microchip numbers, Breeders details, OMG two thousand SBT breeders with the name John Smith!!!!! (kidding) There could well be a number of highly similar if not exact prefix names around the world. But working out whos who would come down to the attached information. If each country has, and it appears many do, a list of it's Prefixes on a website, it is easy enough to check. A Master List could some day be compiled with the country of origin shown I guess, all thanks to the various "SwaYd's" out there!
  6. I don't doubt the effort that has been made, and don't want to be pretentious, as the majority of Maremma prefixes were provided by yours truly. But if an Australian offers an overseas prefix because it has appeared on a pedigree or may become part of a future pedigree then that pedigree could be verified in the database being compiled by SwaY There is no need to list every prefix from all over the world. Just the ones that australiam breeders may encouter. SwaY. Add the prefix Laperla Maremmana with the other Italian prefixes already there to the Maremma Sheepdog list please, so that my AI may be given some credulity. Tralee By that do you mean list the ones that have already been used over here per A.I. or imported?
  7. No, he wasn't just a cat. I said he was a cat (no just used) implying that I realise that this is a dog forum, but hey, the dogs loved him too.
  8. Yes, all in all I think it does come down to the health of the immune system and how it deals with the vaccination, whichever is used. I'm sure you've seen many a vaccinated child come down with say, whooping cough for eg.
  9. Last night we said goodbye to our beautiful Beau Jen Snow Tiger. A lilac Burmese who came to live with me at age 2 because when I went to his breeder to buy a kitten for my Sister in Law he jumped into my arms and draped himself around my shoulders and I said "You're lovely, I could just take you home with me!", as you do! "Well, actually, said the owner, he has a retained testicle and needs to be desexed" so you can have him if you buy a kitten". He had developed a cancer that had begun to grow into his jaw and was starting to push his jaw off to one side, making him look like he'd had a stroke and was starting to drool. There was nothing that could be done for him. He would have been 16 in February. I'm going to miss the little guy.
  10. The website is only for Australia Prefixes, they are Italian? What! Then what's the point? For someone searching for an unclaimed prefix, in order to apply for a new prefix, it may result in a duplication with an overseas prefix and will be rejected Pursuant to the Code of Ethics, Regulations, Part 1 and 1a, Register and Registration, I refer you to clause 11.3 (b) an application for a prefix may be rejected by Dogs NSW if: (ii) the word is identical with or deceptively similar to a previously registered prefix or an affix believed to be registered by a canine controlling body in another country. Regards Px A worldwide Prefix listing would be a monumental task! Better get cracking SwaY! ;) You would just need to do a search for every country and hope they have someone who is putting as much effort into this as SwaY is!
  11. Nevafollo - Wow the babies are growing, I just did my babes claws, sooo very sharp and tiny! At least your troupe will be running around wearing their's down.....but my clipper finger is itchy (must be the blown up pics) Merry Christmas Wazzat. Ever time I hear Chris Martin and Coldplays "Paradise" I think of your Xolos
  12. Very interesting stuff many thanks I spoke to my vet last night re this vaccination and he tells me it is more expensive and that a young puppy will require a seies of TWO vacinations to be adequately covered. And that the adult is okay with the three year vacs but not a puppy.
  13. I find it interesting that the more touchy/jumpy creatures like horses care nothing of storms, they live out there in them, they will safely take you home in one and while the big bad wolf is in hiding from a strom, quivering in his den, they will happily and safely foal down, knowing the predator is in fear. I think storm fear is conditioned in dogs a long way back.
  14. I always thought Fern had short seasons. By day 16 or so, vulva would be right down and certainly no discharge that I could see. She had 2 litters so if they were short there obviously wasn't a problem. Also I found her prog levels, when tested prior to mating, were very slow to rise then bang! game on I guess that just as in people, everydog is an individual. I had my 'periods' every 3 months during my younger years and my Gyn/ob said I would need fertility pills to concieve. The morning I went into see him for a check up and to begin the treatment I told him I couldn't start on the fertility pills. "Why not?" asked the Gratten Street Specialist. "Because I'm pregnant". Was my reply. Had four pregnancies and all concieved without medical assistance.
  15. I agree with all of the above forementioned in terms of breeding sound well adjusted puppies. However, the way a dog is raised, 'socialised' if you like, treated and cared for, the way it interacts with it's 'pack', strangers etc. are all a contributing factor towards making it an "easy keeper". This cannot be "reproduced" persay in the offspring as such as all the hard work had been done with the individual and needs to be done again with the offspring.
  16. Aren't you two just the "Bees Knees", so clever!
  17. Farout I have nothing to add except my heartfelt condolences on the loss of the new little ones.
  18. There certainly is no excuse for it in this day and age. Over 30 years ago, before microchipping I found a little maltese X dog that was matted, starving, flea riddled and in a terrible state. You could see she had been on the road for some time. No dog could look like this and have recently been with an owner....and if they did, well, that's a whole different thread! I was going to take her to the Lost Dogs Home but my experiences there frightened me off. I knew it would mean certain death for her as my family had previously adopted dogs from there that had been vaccinated at the home only to have them both come down with destemper within months. Both times we waited 6 months for the virus to disperse before buying another pup which was fine. This was my childhood experience with the Pound. So I took her home, fed her, bathed her, deflead her and took her to a vet. He suggested I keep her as she had little chance, even with me vacinating her then to make it out of that prison alive. He said the Lost Dogs Home was rife with Destemper. That was something I was sadly only too aware of. I was 18 and my decision was very emotive. 16 years later I had her PTS as it was her time. I don't regret what I did as the odds of finding her owners was very remote. However today, alot of pets are microchipped and are able to be reunited with their families. Yet there ARE still many who are not, many who are not vaccinated and many who are doomed to die and not be adopted when being handed over. Over the years I have found a number of dogs, which I have handed over to local vets, to be scanned and delt with by the correct procedures. I cannot bring myself to take any dog directly to a Dogs Home. "Gyrle", the Maltese X was the only one I kept and the only one I know for sure had a good outcome.
  19. I agree, dogs will be dogs and bones are a prize to be taken and this is what can happen. The reason it has'nt before is you. You are very dilligent and as pack leader they are observant of your overseeing things. But that doesn't mean that it's not worth giving it a go. As the older dogs becomes less of the leader the younger will become more and more assertive to what he feels is rightly his, (with a bit of conquest first of course to add to the excitment)! As to what happened when being boarded, often the younger will show stress that is unknown and unseen in it's home environment. He doesn't stress at home because he is happy, secure and confident there. You are used to seeing the older dog stress becuse his triggers are those things that occur randomly but at home like storms, fireworks etc. and because he is the dog that everything happens too!
  20. I've always used the three injection course but the pup has ALWAYS been allowed to go out and socialise at 8 weeks after only one injection (at 6 weeks). With the new owner giving the next two at around 10 and 14 weeks. I have not heard of any "higher" incidence of Parvo in Victoria than anywhere else?
  21. I know! He looked so good, you can see he still had his canines last year!!! What a lovely little fellow. I've got to wonder though if maybe he was 'Pusuke' the 2nd!!!??? But the Guiness people are very thorough. What a good life.
  22. Here's my munchkin at 2 weeks. Not much difference...except we have our eyes open now too, (when we can stay awake long enough! )
  23. Congratulations Angelsun on the new arrivals!
