Lost German Shepherd Canberra Now Found Hoorah
LizT replied to Pat Smith's topic in General Dog Discussion
Popped in hoping for some good news for this young lady. Fingers still crossed. -
Especially without the 'reference' to the Italiano Waiters serenade.

Funnily enough I always felt the animated drawings of 'Lady' looked more like a Cavalier than a Cocker Spaniel. Despite this a 'Cocker Spaniel' like, Lady was my 'dream' dog as a child. :)
-
 I don't think Disney had an original story in it history! It was based on a short story, "Happy Dan, the whistling dog". By Ward Greene.

Yes, that would be the best case scenario, but what if the scan didn't read? They are not foolproof either. They have been known to shift and go wrong at times. Maybe chips should be checked more routinely. If they fail the dog goes to the pound post vet anyway.

http://youtu.be/cpGTJ0anvNY How cute is this! I always thought Lady was supposed to be an American Cocker Spaniel, but recently my sister told me in the orginal book it was a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Male and a Schnauzer female????

I know the law has changed dramatically over the years but once upon a time if you found "anything" and put an ad in a Newspaper that was considered sufficient by law. Also years ago a pound was a death sentence to most lost dogs and surrendering one to a pound was something many animals lovers could not bring themselves to do. However in this day and age and now with mandatory microchipping one would expect better outcomes with lost pets. Except of course in the cases where people do not update their changes of addresses which can be disasterous for the poor lost animals.

It's good to be cautious and alert but not at the expense of your nerves! You probably already have a subconcious level of alertness to people hanging around so let that be your guide. I've had similar thing happen to me with my German Shepherd. A lady asked me at the vets if he was desexed as she had a female and wanted to use him. He is desexed, so sorry No. As I was walking home from the vets a man stopped me and asked if he was desexed. Coincidence...I think not.

Lost German Shepherd Canberra Now Found Hoorah

There is also and Lost and Found section here on DOL. Also "Facebook" seems to be of great assistance in these matters. Hope this lovely girl is located and reunited with her people soon. -
Yes, experts are there when we feel we need that extra help or cannot cope in a situation that is out of our league. Interestingly I was listening to an radio story the other week about our overuse of "experts" in this society and our inability to raise our own children without professional help on even the most mundane of issues. Certainly there is something to be learnt from just about everyone we meet in our lives. Many would credit Caesar Milan as an expert but he would be the first to tell you his best credentials have come from his life experiences.

Yeah I'm fairly sure you can do this which would fix the problem. What if the vet mixes them up? Who is responsible for the change of numbers? Or wouldn't it matter in the final analysis? Could a reserve of 6 numbers be quoted in an ad and then allocated randomly to the six pups from said advertised litter?

My indoor dogs have had Nylabones since the 1970's. I do give a marrow bone to the GSD who lives out doors, when I gave him a Nylabone he buried it!!! It has yet to resurface along with a Kong, food puzzles and other misc. items.

So I just discovered. Got a phone call from a Show Secretary this morning re a "Reg Pending" entry. Luckily babies papers have since come in and she is now "Legitmate". I do feel bad about causing them to have to make a phone call though.
-
Yep, I have seen this. It isn't an "oodle" breeder any more though, they have changed their breed name to something else. It used to be Australian Labradoodles, got some weird name now. Wondering if they are going to go for ANKC recognition  Cobbadog apparently. But who gave them licence to use an old Australian term like Cobber?

Sorry what credentials do you have in order to comment on such behaviour? Your posts come across like you're deliberately trying to be a trouble maker. Just saying. Nope im genuinely curious as I would not be taking advise from a non experienced professional in such a specialised field of k9 behaviour. Really? Then you would be missing out on a lot of very good information of others "life experiences", some learnt "the hard way" and alot of it not able to be formally taught. :) Sorry what credentials do you have in order to comment on such behaviour? Five years professionally assessing dog behaviour through their body language. Working under a program written by a veterinary behaviourist. Doing this on a weekly basis. Training by a veterinary behaviourist in assessing canine non-verbal communication as well as training and mentor-ship from a behaviourist with doctorate in canine prey drive. Training volunteers in assessing and documenting canine non-verbal communication, supervising them and documenting the information. Over ten years as a a qualified obedience and agility instructor at an ANKC affiliated obedience club. So as you can see, my input about dog behaviour is considered valuable by many dog owners. I know a lot about canine non-verbal communication and possible interpretations of the behaviour. I also have a wealth of experience in seeing consequences of certain behaviours, having been responsible for the care and rehoming of a very large number of dogs. What are your credentials? I'm now very interested in hearing from those with better credentials than mine (and there are some members here) and getting their thoughts on whether the word "protective' is appropriate and how they interpret the behaviour of the dogs in the video. It is always good to take advise "on board" from someone who has had more formal training and experience than oneself. My own credentials only come from the "School of life" which has taught me enough to know that much can be learnt, observed and alot discarded from others in life, and that it is wise to bow to those that have more knowledge in any field than me. Ultimately though I must live with the decisions I have made and must follow my gut feelings and do what works for me. Incidently, my personal experiences see potential problems in the body language of the brown dog.

Ohhh Sumosmum, the video didn't make me cry but NOW I'm bawling.

Would it be acceptable for an ad to state something along the line of: 3 boys, 2 girls. Microchip nos. 000XXXX1,2,3,4 & 5. ???

if I accidently hurt the dog bad enough then yes I would expect to get snapped at or bitten. The dog had only been spayed 3 weeks prior, it is a major operation, she would still be healing. Big difference to having your tail trod on, and how could the dog run away with a child laying on her? I agree, big difference. Glad to hear you have the opportunity to resolve this without anyone being hurt (except maybe poor dog who is still healing and is also a bit out of sorts??) Sometimes when a dog feels cornered and can't get away snapping is resorted to. Dog really hate "hugs" and yet people will think it okay to give a dog a hug as we tend to humanise their emotions in line with ours. When my youngest daughter used to sit on the couch with our Cavalier and hold her in a death grip hug I had to tell her not to do this repeatedly, until one day the dog, having had enough growled at her and I explained to my daughter, who was 7 at the time if the dog bit her it would be her fault the dog would be PTS. This finally drove the message home to her and we have had no more "human hugs" on dogs.

I'm just throwing it out there but do we actually know for a 'fact' that the dogs encountered were APBT? Most people would not know one if it came up and bit them on the bum. A lack of true identification is one of the reasons this breed cop such bad press..."Oh the dog that attacked my little fluffy was a Pitbull Terrier!!" Just listen to the Media reports of dog attacks as an example. On further investigation it rarely is. I'm sure many of the so called ABPT out there from unregistered sources are in fact simply bull terrier crosses. The buyers of these cross breeds think they have bought what the breeder tells them they have bought. It's always lovely to hear of dogs of any breed getting along at a Dog Park but personally I believe all strange dogs owners should approach any dog encounter with forethought and great care. A CKCS is inclined to be friendly and submissive to any breed, sometimes to it's detriment. So I'm happy to hear of people at dog parks with friendly dogs in any thread. :)

I'd like to say please don't get any animal if you want to get angry and psyical with it! +1
