  1. Congratulations on the safe arrival of your new little man. :)
  2. As stated rest is very important for the next two weeks, as this is the telling time for internal bleeding. No vigourous excerise or games and be very observant of any discharges from ears, mouths and other orifices. Hopefully your Vet is familiar with the treatment for the particular brand of Rat poision and all will be fine. Healing Vibes for your dog.
  3. Oh...but Pet Shops have overheads to cover, they are a business. Home breeders don't have any costs, because they do it at home. My first litter gave me one bitch and enought for a stud fee to go on with. My second litter gave me one pup.
  4. Our first Cavalier LOVED bedtime stories and both her and my daughter used to fall asleep.
  5. I have the same problem with OH, as I tap his bum for him to move over so I can get into a cupboard or something. He says, "I'm not your horse, a simply excuse me will do"!
  6. I'm not even going to pass comment on the owner of the dog that attacked the puppy as my rant would be too long and fierce. Not so much for the attack but what they did (or rather didn't do) afterwards!!!! But I use to have the most obedienct, faithful and lovely sweet natured Border Collie/ACD entire bitch but she could not be trusted with puppies or kittens. She would do the same thing and we had a GSD puppy that we could never leave with her until he was safe at 7 months of age. Despite introductions and much supervision we knew she could NEVER be trusted due to other attacks in the past. We literally waited for her to pass away and then got our much awaited Cavalier puppy after her passing.
  7. My girls will be happy to test any couches in any furniture store.
  8. There are days I would like to shoot my neighbour (not his dog) for letting his dog onto my property and hassle my lovely Jersey Girl. Just as well he's a stocky little staffy because it is only a matter of time before she lays the hoof in. I've asked and asked. The other night I was headed up to feed the horses and cow and the dog was in the paddock, chasing the cow, again, but he quickly called it home and put it in its pen. His whole yard is almost entirely dog proof except for a section along our top paddock and the dog thinks this is his territory too. I wish he'd pull his finger out and get on with doing that section too. It's been a year. If I'd been your friend and my neighbour had threatened my dog on my property like that I would have told him I'll shoot his cows if they tresspass and upset my dog again! (Of course I would not actually do it, or shoot my neighbour either for that matter. ;) )
  9. Toy Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Small Schipperke Medium Border Collie ( or Australian Shepherd) Large German Shepherd Giant Great Dane. The only ones I haven't owned are Great Dane and Aussie Shepherd. Alternatively.......a beautiful array of various sized Poodles. :)
  10. Dogs can go a lot more than 9 hrs. I had a girl who broke her leg and had to have it pinned. I lived in a basement apartment and getting her up the stairs was hard. The vet said she could go 26 hrs. Once a day worked fine. Have you somewhere inside he can't completely destroy though? My daughter and her boyfriend had thought that his mum and dad had taken their dog (9 year old large cross breed) with them to the beach house (as they usually do) but they had left him at home in the laundry. That was on the Friday night. They got up saturday morning, went out for the day, came home, went out for the night. And then discovered dog in laundry on Sunday morning. He had water and had been quiet and also hadn't toileted. Talk about feeling guilty though. No, nowhere he couldn't destroy so inside isn't an option After seeing what he did to the back door I have no doubt he will do the same inside to the doors or walls. Yes, my very well behave Border Collie X went to town when we left her in the bathroom of my in-laws beach house when we went to the National Park for an afternoon (no dogs allowed). She went to town on the door frame and ripped up the edge of carpet that protruded under the door and she was not a destructive dog at all.
  11. Maybe, maybe not. Maybe he would do the same in any home. That is why he needs a professional assessment. How easy do you think it would be to find an owner that wants a problem dog instead of one with no problems? Why would somebody want to do that? Do you think an owner that does want a problem dog may still want him if his problem is quickly solved? What if his problems are not really solvableat all? I am not saying you should put this dog to sleep. I am saying that it would be highly unethical to place this dog in a home without it having been assessed. Not all dog temperament problems are solvable, or even managble long-term., no matter how expereinced or financial a person claims to be. Greytmate is right. And if him being in a concrete run all day surrounded by high cyclone wire is the future that will keep him from causing major damage and possibly hurting himself and getting out the new potential owner needs to be made aware of this.
  12. I've had to use an electronic bark collar on our GSD. He rarely needs it now at age 6 but it was a godsend at 2 years of age. I heard him bark but when I was away from home (worked nightshift) he barked incessently according to our neighbour who wrote me a note. So I felt I needed to do something quickly, as my OH and kids slept through it but it kept my poor neigbour awake. You could do a search as there are a few threads on this subject on file. :) I did do a search and found some topics on the forum but a lot of them were for puppies and max is 2. Another difference was that the dogs seemed to be barking while people were home. Max does bark sometimes when I'm at home but it is extremely easy for me to get him quiet and very quickly as well. I have been hearing mixed responses about citronella spray - that it IS tocix, that the amount that is sprayed ISN'T toxic so I'm not sure and I think that would work the best because I know he hates citronella spray. I spray them with citronella on hot days to keep the flies away and he hates it so I think a collar with citronella would work but I am hesitant because I don't know whether it is actually toxic or not and I don't want to come home one day and find him poisoned. I had the same problem in that Clancy was also grown and his barking was not a problem when I was home. Once I started working nightshift no one bothered to reassure him when he barked so he kept it up (they say they didn't hear him and slep through it ???!!!). WHen I was home I used to go out and say "Show me" and acknowledge that he was a good boy in alerting me to the fact that a Possum had farted, tell him to "hush" and it was all good. We use the muscle stimulation collar that has six levels of strength but an override for "alert barking" where if it get frenzied it will shut off. I found it worked in the first 24 hours. I later tried the citronella but it had no effect on him whatsoever. He didn't care less about the smell etc. The 'small thump' he received with the other collar on was enough for him to be destracted and the barking stopped immediately. I used to put it on overnight and take it off in the morning. Rarely used these days, but on occasssions.
  13. Found Cavs and King Charles, on bottom middle of page 2. :)

  15. I read it has to do with the structure and shape of the muzzle and spacing available for the teeth. My GSD has lovely plaque free teeth at 6 but the Cavaliers plaque up really quickly.

  17. Also on a side note. I am concerned about you having to nail shut your back door. Should you need to leave in an emergency and the other exit is blocked, as in the case of a fire you would be in serious trouble. I know you are trying to keep Eric out of the house but, even though an unlikely event, your safety still needs to be considered. :)
  18. I'm having the same problem as Anne. Try the view by page instead of view all link I first posted. There are 50 pages http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v485/Pietoro/Dog%20Breed%20Historical%20Pictures/?start=0 That's done it! Thanks. No Cavaliers. I'm sure I saw a Cav or perhaps it was just a KC? YES! Found on page 2 bottom middle. The dog on the tea chest (?) looks very King Charles as does the Black and Tan, but...the Blenheim opposite the blk & tan is very Cavalier in type. Again, a pencil sketch so left to interpretation. Would make a lovely print. :)
  19. I acquired a second hand pp20 today that cleaned up nicely and is in good condition apart from a rusty wire door. It must have been out in the damp or able to get wet for some time. If anyone has an old one they don't need from maybe a broken pp20 or know where I can get a new one it would be much appreciated. Happy to send cash to cover postage if second hand one is available. Thanks. :)

  21. And note it down so next time you will know if it has moved significantly. :)
  22. That's the one that stood out to me as well - the change in Boxers is huge. This stuff is so interesting!! Thanks for posting this :) I adore seeing pics of the GSD from days gone by :) Agree with the Boxer Another one which really shocked me (saw it first in that other vid that is making the rounds) is the Bull Terrier They looked such a handsome Noble dog.
  23. I'm having the same problem as Anne.
