Funniest thing I've heard of is a member of the General Public berating a rider for riding a "heavily pregnant Mare".!!!! It was a gelding and not particularly fat either, just a round cobby breed!

Ok cool, so it's not just me! These pieces only *just* fit in my 9kg front loader, it's a bit of an effort to get them in there and made worse by the fact they are so difficult to fold. A front loader washer/dryer combo on the 'quick' (30 minute wash, 30 minute dry) cycle about half a dozen times Gee, you'd think that'd do it! Funny, I remember being dissapointed at how soft mine got after the first wash. Originally I had the pale blue, that softened up quickly. Then I got pink and then mauve. All green backed and all softened up. I kind of like that it goes like a blanket now as I fold a piece in half and the pup makes a cocoon bed out of it So cute, only her little head pops out on cold nights and when it was warm she'd lay on the top. Clever girl, is our little Miss Emma Lee. I avoided the rubber backed as most I've seen seem to perish.

We were at a Dog Show once in the 1980's and my ex saw a lovely Lhaso Apso and went up to it while the lady was preparing it for the showring and ruffled it up and was all gooey with it and got it all hyped up! I told him off and he was very apologetic, the Lady was VERY gracious and said it was fine but had to get her knitting needle out again to redo this part! Typical of him he just acted before he thought. Knowing now what I didn't know then, I think the public can be a bit ignorant, particularly at the Royals as they are told the animals are there for their viewing/amusement/entertainment. Which to a certain extent is true, however, as with all dogs, one needs to ask first and also respect that people are busy. I've met and chatted to some lovely people at the Melbourne Royal and my sister and her family decided to get a Standard Schnauzer after meeting some and spending ages with them and their people at a Royal a few years back. You did nothing wrong, some people just get their backs up even if it has nothing to do with them. Although I must say I wouldn't have left my dog with a stranger and walked off either. Just in case of one my fellow Showies thought someone was handling my dog without my knowledge. Dogs have been stolen before.

Awww...don't they love showing their tummies! I said "Show me your nips" to Crissy last pregnancy, so I could inspect her development to see if there were any early signs of change and this time she knows what I want and just rolls over for me!

That's clever. Oh and I forgot you can get mixed colour litters too now. What colours are you expecting?

Hi Guys, I'm New! Just A Couple Of Questions
LizT replied to bigbadwolf's topic in General Dog Discussion
Welcome to DOL. And as is also sometimes the case the owner may be too nervous to assist with the whelping should something go wrong so the bitch whelps with the original breeder but then when the pups are strong enough the owner feels confident to take the small family on for lots of loving care and early socialisation (and lots of fun puppy play of course) but the orginal breeder is the one whose Stud Prefix is being used as the owner of the bitch may not be a Registered Breeder but simply has an arrangement with the orginal breeder, who may in fact still be the registered owner of the dog, simply having placed her in a friends family to live. As you can see, lots of reasons why pups may not be with person handling the paperwork. That said, sadly some breeders have been lax with getting their paperwork back to new owners and I'm not really sure if there is any way of ensuring they do other than asking if they have in fact done the litte registration yet and how long they envisage it to take? As you can appreciate coming up with a bunch of names you like and deciding which pups will be on Main Registration (Showing Breeding) and which will be Limited Registration(Pets only) can take time. -
But they are such iconic Border Collies.

Is It Acceptable To Leave Dog Stools On The Footpath?
LizT replied to ChloeEastwood's topic in General Dog Discussion
When the concept of Bagging Dog sh12 came about I was really in two minds as I had this image of landfil, thousands of years old full of non biodegradable dispoable nappies and little bags of dog turds. I'm so pleased that the bags today do break down and are biodegradable. It used to be tricky putting little doos in newspaper or brown paper bags. There is no reason for not doing it nowadays. -
Handy Coffee maker and Chocolates. :D Biscuits too, if carbo loading needed for along night. Laptop to inform fellow DOlers of progress. Camera. In your breeds case coloured I.D. ties.

Depends. Are we talking front loader on the "forever cycle" or top loader on a quick cycle? Or any of the variations in between. :)

The thought of 7 puppies really, really scares me  That would be a huge litter for a JS!! Not long now I guess, and we'll know :D How is Miss Matilda going? Winnie is a bit over it now! She sways from side to side when she walks, she's like a barrel on legs lol... Not too great at reading X-rays, I counted 5 at least 8 times and 6 once! Good luck with however many pups. :)

And they are the ones that should be looked at. I have never bred pups or kittens & as a responsible pet owner that does get her pets desexed I don't want to be told when I have to have it done. I want my dogs to mature before getting them done. IMO I don't think you are going to stop people that just don't care & won't get their animals desexed. Yes, many people have very reasonable reasons for wanting to keep their dogs entires despite not being breeders. And do they really need a reason if they are being responsible? IMO No, not really. I myself, who today is a ANKC Registered Breeder once owned a Farm breed Border Collie/Heeler X bitch that I never desexed. She lived to 12 years of age, she never had puppies. Why didn't I desex her? No reason really, just never did. My male GSD was desexed so I didn't envisage any unwanted puppies. I was responsible for her welfare and didn't falter in my duty to her or to "societies demand not to produce any unecessary litters".

Thanks BB, She's already done that with the lovely singleton bitch she gave me last November. She had a free return so I thought I'd give her another go before she got back into full coat. It's just a relief to know she can produce more than the one pup. If I didn't try again I'd always be wondering. Fingers and paws crossed for your girl. :)

I saw a beautifully groomed one out for a walk with it's owner in Lilydale (Vic) about a year ago. The only others I've seen are at Shows.

Isn't Corgi a part of the ACD foundation stock??

You have plenty of great adice.....just wanted to add that clearly she is very happy in her new home, with wanting to wag her tail so vigourously all the time now. :) Do you know if she had had any indication of similar previous injuries? If it heals nicely she may settle in and not repeat the problem.

 Only last weekend when going into Baby Puppy in Group at a Show the Steward called out "King Charles Spaniel" for the Cavalier. I softly muttered "Cavalier" under my breath. It happens ALL the time and it's no biggy really but there is probably a King Charles Spaniel owner out there that is probably being told "No, that's not a Purebred King Charles Spaniel! It must be crossed with a pug to get that flat face.

This. I don't think I'd show a dog with a major structural fault as movement is so important to my breed. But if I did I'd expect it to be judged accordingly. However I might breed a carrier of a genetic fault to a genetically clear dog depending on the fault, the mode of inheritance, my ability to be completely certain that the mating could not produce an affected animal, and if I was sure any carriers produced could be identified by DNA and their future breeding prospects managed accordingly. If it was a disease with a complicated or poorly understood mode of inheritance and no reliable test, and which materially impacted on a dog's quality of life, then no, no way. Edited to add - I wouldn't show a surgically altered dog. This makes sense to me. Yes, as to breeding, it really would depend on the degree of the fault and what that fault was and whether breeding to a 'clear' would help to alleviate this fault from the line. I'm a big believer in not throwing the baby out with the bath water.

What a team they make too. At least dogs don't 'play' with their food like cats do.

Our New Rescue Dog-what Breed Do You Think He Could Be?
LizT replied to hippie1969's topic in General Dog Discussion
Welcome to DOL. :) What a sweet face your dog has. Clearly a happy fellow. He looks just like a bitch my ex's parents had when we first started dating. We all though Cristie was a Kelpie/Border mix. She was left tied up outsound the pound as a pup and my ex's dad worked at the Electricity supply next door and took her home. -
Well I rang the vets to make an appointment and they said "Bring her in now if you like" so of course I'm up there in a flash and the Ultrasound has revealed 3 pups! Yay! That's a relief after her singleton effort last time. Due around May 26-29th. My calculations say between day 27 and 30 and measurements on scan says around day 31. So I'm going by the first matings.

Hi Sheena, I don't use mine on the carpet....except for 1 rug. It seems to work fine on that... but I don't know if it really has enough suction to really get the dog hair off a big carpetted area. Ill trial it for you on carpet in the next couple of days and let you know :) Thanks. I priced them at between $699 & $799 so for that I would be wanting it to do a whole lot more than what I can do with the broom. :) ..hmmmm...like make a really good Latte. ;)
