Need Help To Determine What Breed My New Dog Is
LizT replied to Squidgy's topic in General Dog Discussion
TC, you seem to be collecting quite a little 'pack' there. Welcome Phoebe. How is the old boy you recued from the "near miss bus/owners said "sick of his health issues, dump him at pound" incident doing? -
When my girls abcessed and burst they (Vets) put her antibiotics and then checked her 10 days later. All healed up. If they don't heal the vets told me often they have to go under GA and have them flushed as once a problem often it returns. Almost a year on and my girl has had no further problems.

I think that's the best sign it's not clearing itself (which if all is well it should do when he 'goes'). Scooting isn't really the best of indications, particularly for a Cavalier, who like to scoot for the sheer enjoyment of it!! Last week the youngest had a sticky mess on her rear which means she cleared it herself, so just a wash and alls good. I always give them a bit of a massage and feel around to check when bathing. I've had one rupture once and it isn't nice for the poor dog.

Anything that goes on a collar has the potential to be lost. Also I like something that is easily read and able to be delt with then and there. Simple tag with a phone no. is as good as anything to my mind although equally easy to loose. Only my GSD wears a collar, none of my Cavaliers do. Even microchipping falls short of perfect when people don't upgrade changes of address.

Yeah, we had a situation where dog was "missing", hunted high and low, called, checked outside, got worried, but she was still shut in her crate.

This came up in a recent conversation at our house. The answer. 24 by a Neopolitan Mastiff, Tia, by C-section in January 2005.

Congratulations SwaY. Shimmer looks very pleased. :) Did you have to use the same process as last time for conception?

I'm pretty sure it was the same with my previous two litters, all parti-colours with white face and feet. All well, good tone, eating well etc. but they did see a different vet for their post natal visit. Thanks for posting that link.

Do you mean like this? I can't get it to insert here but this should be set to public. This was a few hours after birth. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150187562089051&set=a.10150187561759051.317924.700954050&type=3&permPage=1 By 24 hours they were not so bright: http://www.facebook....pe=3&permPage=1 Yes, exactly that Piper! :)

When I searched I was directed to a US site that had it for $49.00 but wanted to charge $39.00 for postage!!! As if.

Oh well done, not bad for a breeding that wsn't going to happen eh?! Yeah a Oxytocin injection sounds in order just in case.

I would probably have said nothing as there is so much I would like to have said but where do you draw the line? What comes to mind is... "$50 per pup, gee that barely covers the cost of your microchipping, you have microchipped them haven't you, it is law now". But really that wont change anything in terms of the future these pups have. They were born, they probably shouldn't have, but they are here now and need homes. Fingers crossed and all the best to the pups.

Yes. I believe that ongoing skin conditions are also of issue.
-
Sounds like you will be on high puppy alert from now on. Good luck.

Not long now! I think this will be the longest week, since the last week of my last girl's litter !!! If that makes any sense ... X-Ray Fri to see just how many she is cooking :) ... Yep, makes perfect sense. I know exactly what you mean. :)

He already stands out, only male and a BIG boy to boot, almost 1 kg at 2 weeks while his sisters are around 650 gms. No peepers yet.

I wouldnt be putting too much faith in the "animal control people" know a friend just brough home a rescue dog. was told its a German Shorthaired pointer? It does have floppy ears, it is basically white with spots, but, ive never seen a gold GSP with sable tips to the coat. the ears are half the size they should be and it sure lacks the head shape? Part cattle part goodness knows what I'd be thinking. Suspect it hasnt even any GSP in it. So much for getting even close to a breed description let alone breed. with this one. bought it as a family pet and train but will it have any of the GSP traits they were expecting. Only time will tell Indeed. I have a workmate who has a young dog they got as a puppy. She proudly showed me a photo and it resembles a GSD but with a fluffier coat. I asked her it's breeding and she told me "It is a German Short tailed Pointer crossed with a Husky, only it's got the longtail from the Husky side". "Really?". In the case of PTS all the dogs that were there, we don't know enough of the events to make any kind of call. Hypothetically the three dogs not impounded could be the dogs of the resident, who jumped on board when the three visitors attacked the little girl, aiming their response at the three aggressors?? Hypothetically. Truth is we don't know and therefore are not in a poisiton to call for anything.

Yes, I've heard that too. Interesting that it is applied to all breeds regardless of litter averages!!! Probably has it's foundation in the fact that "slip" matings often result in small litter sizes.

Two weeks tonight....running a pool on who will open their eyes first! Pick a number 1 to 3. Easy odds. :D

Also is selling an older puppy rehoming or selling an older puppy? Many breeders/Exhibitors keep a dog to "run on", knowing that it may well end up being sold at a later stage. Many pet owners are happy for the opportunity to buy an older puppy, as working life makes for a tricky puppy infancy for some owners.

Exactly. The dog did as it is trained to do...keep it's cool and restrain...not to attack out of control. :)
