  1. My dad made it..he's 81 and doing fine! :) He says it was a Pointer but I'm guessing the Gundogs he fashioned it on could well have been mixed breed. Especially as post WW2 alot of the purebred breeders had put things on hold and many of the dogs were strays and 'oops' and mix breedings from whatever was available for stud and breeding.
  2. I like the take the GSD Obedience Club I trained at years ago had when I told them my pup wasn't papered (pre-limited Registery)...they told me....if it looks like a GSD, we want him to have every oportunity to be trained and socialised...bring him on down. What constitutes a Purebred today will really depend on it's circumstances. A Cavalier we rescued from a Puppy Farm is microchipped and came originally from a Registered Bredder, somehow got sold on and ended up in a bad situation, no papers available for him...has been signed over but can't prove he is a "purebred" but clearly he is.
  3. Yes i am worried. She is in the flyball team for sept 22 and now i just found out she is in the team for the royal Melbourne show. Please i hope she get it in Oct now, that will be 11 months since the last time Good Luck Jodielass. I had to scratch my girl from the Royal last year as she came into season and went off on her honeymoon. Then she only had one pup! Bitch.
  4. Some of us are going to get "mobbed" when we get to that rainbow bridge. :)
  5. Agree with this, I haven't gone too late with a dog but have with a cat and if I could turn back time I would have relieved her suffering earlier. I also agree with Ams and others that if the light has gone out, it's time. If he's flat and miserable, and there is no hope of recovery, help him go. But sometimes the light NEVER goes out. I had a Geman Shepherd with a colapsing scarum. Years earlier I had seen a woman with a GSD whose rear end was failing, her husband had built a sling in a frame on wheels and he had his rear end suspended in it and was pulling himself along on the trail. I promised my young GSD that I would never put his arse in a sling the way this dog had. He was far too dignified a creature for that. When the time came to say goodbye our vet came to our house, we sat by a large grave my husband had dug months earlier "for when I needed it" and talked for what seemed like hours with Harley sitting on a bed sheet beside us. When it was time, my vet needed to sedate him as Harley had tensed up and it was difficult getting the larger needle in. Harley was still strong in mind and spirit but his body had let him down. He was 14 years old. It was only as he slowly lay down that the light finally left his eyes.
  6. Dad said it is a pointer. Given it was made in Austria post World War Two I'm guessing a GSP and not an English though it is a very muscular dog. Poetic licence and interpretaion met thinks.
  7. I always thought that as a kid!
  8. Dad would love that video Nevafollo! Yes, it's meant to be a Pointer and given that dad comes from the same town as Arnie (Graz, Austria) manybe it is the Arnie of Pointers Trinabean!
  9. And fingers crossed that ex doesn't change his mind at a time when things are hectic for you! :)
  10. This fellow is my 'dream' dog, I grew up with him watching over me and he 'came to life' often in my child imaginings. I have loved him for half a centuary. He is my one of my Fathers' (Moulder) Apprentice pieces and Dad has told me what he is 'supposed' to be. Made just after WW2. As sometimes happens with dogs, his tail meet with an "acident" many years ago and was grinded back from where a small piece snapped off. DOLers, what breed do you think 'my dog' is? :)
  11. Allergies can be very complex. Did you know Bart Cummings (Multi Melbourne Cup Winning Trainer) is allergic to horses? He has daily injections. I hope you get to the bottom of your daughters problem. :)
  12. Maybe people should say something like "Available for rehoming to suitable applicant".
  13. If he is not happy in a pillow case cut a small hole for his head/face and carry him around ala 'sling' style for a bit.
  14. Clearly you are VERY excited BB. 7th of July??????
  15. Good heavens, that would be game! I would never get any space on the couch ever again! I heard the same thing about Great Danes, but I think that might be getting a tad overexcited! Yeah..I'm thinking with both those breeds the "Apartment" would need to be one of those HUGE American Lofts/Warehouses, or a Penhouses with a heap of floorspace!
  16. Not that I'm suggesting it but my sister in London, when 'breed screening' told me about an article she read about Newfounlands being perfect for apartment living because of their docile nature. :D I steered her towards a Miniature Poodle.
  17. Being home will help with his recovery so much. I'm so happy this is turning out well for Bailey. My parents had a Daschund years ago and he damaged his back and was paralysed in the rear. It was recommended he be PTS by the vet at the time.
  18. Wishing Bailey a speedy and full recovery. Poor babe. He looks a real sweetie too.
  19. I for one, (and many others, both Professional ie. Vets and Breeders) do not advocate infant desexing.
  20. Once upon time....in some instances...on occassion...when I was a child....BYB dogs were given away or sold for a very small sum....as they were often "oops" litters and not purposefully breed. Sadly many BYB dogs are PURPOSE BREED and sold as either "DDs" or purebreds costing nearly as much as a Registered health checked dog does.
  21. Poor guy, hope he is going to be okay soon.
  22. Very avoidable when testing is done...devastating when not done and it crops up.
  23. I wonder whether he dislocated a joint (hip or maybe knee) or pulled a tendon or something? Poor fellow. Sending healing vibes.
