  1. I tried expressing some milk from the dam but she wasn't cooperative and more ran down my fingers than in the little jar. I think she's at the sore boobs stage, they are quite warm and firm at the moment. Difficult to strip. So I gave him what I could (only a few mls) mixed in with Di-Vetelect. He got about 3 eye droppers full and swallowed nicely. He now has a rounded tummy and is sleeping with the others. But he really needs to get back to nursing from her.
  2. I didn't know that- ours all seem to be attached a lot. does he have a round belly like the others? have you checked him for cleft palate etc? What does he do if you attach him? Does he suck, or slip off? I would be worried at this stage- perhaps it's just me? Yes, I've read it in a few breeding books and the Vet confirmed this yesterday when they went up to be checked, as they sleep alot in the first 24 hours. No there isn't a cleft palate, they were all cheecked. Some of the girls seem to be on permanently! No his bellys not really round at all, when you try to attach him he just turns his head left and right as if uninterested. When he does 'hunt' around the nipple he seems to be clueless in finding it?? He just seems content to sleep next to mum. And yes, I am worried. At least I know he had some colostrum yesterday.
  3. Okay, first 'fret' for me now. The only male in the litter of 6 is the second smallest. He hangs around the Milk Bar but doesn't buy anything! The girls are going at it great guns, even the littlest one, but when he is there, lined up at his mums' side he is never on a teat! Mostly sleeping. He was seen to suckle initially yesterday but not since yesterday afternoon. I know feeding in the first 24 hours isn't that often but is it going to be time for a supplement bottle or tube feeding if he doesn't soon?
  4. A very exciting time isn't it. Is your new puppy from a experienced Show and Breeding person? Often times they can and will be our Mentors as they are more than happy to help you with advice and guidance as you "Show Off" their puppies. They can also help you to learn to train and present your particular breed correctly. Have fun..enjoy Have a 'trawl' through the 'Show Ring' threads too.
  5. Yes, it was nice to have a positive experience first time. It can help prepare you for the less happier outcomes later on. A bit hard to get a kick in the teeth first up but sadly, in reality it happens.
  6. Sounds like a phantom but err on the side of caution. I know of someone who had her Husky X-rayed, got told NO PUPPIES, went to work next day and came home to find a lively litter! It can happen.
  7. Yes, BB in all the conversation we've had that's one that slipped you mind is it!!!!

  15. Yes, and it has to be understood too that many of the "DD" we see on the end of peoples leashes came from pounds. Many, many years ago I too, thought it might be nice to have a "DD" 'oodle thingy. I had a Poodle that bred with a terrier when I was young and the pups were lovely. An aquaintence of mine who had recently bred her Border Collie and also worked as a Dog Groomer simply said in a non judgmental way. "Check out the Pounds and Shelters first, they are full of these little dogs if you really want one." She also went on to tell me that they were the bulk of dogs she clipped and groomed because their coats were to difficult for the owners to manage. Many were matted and had 'felt' coming off by the time she was called to deal with it too As it happened I didn't end up getting one as that started me on the path of further thought and inquiry.
  16. Awwwww...Amstaff they are georgous!!! All so unique....certainly don't need coloured collars for that lot! CONGRATULATIONS Looks like it might be "Puppy Night" for me tonight.... Refused breakfast this morning, had a sloppy poos, is quite agitated and restless with heaps of vigourous nesting and her temp has dropped to 36.6 (it had been hovering between 37.1 and 37.5 for past few days). Very obliging of her to have them over the weekend. Wish me luck guys.
  17. :D So "that's" the "fineprint" I didn't see!!! Actually she had a real sloppy poo this morning, refused breakfast and has a temperature of 36.7. No farting currently and we've both had a really good sleep so maybe tonights the night!?
  18. No they don't - as it says in the article, this was abolished because only about 50% of owners ever bothered to pay it. I'd be interested to know the % in Australia - in NZ it used to be estimated about 40% of dogs were unregistered, not sure if they've changed their thinking on that, & I don't think it'd be much different here. Yet another tax for the responsible to pay and the irresponsible to avoid. Hmmm, well given the amount of people I personally know in just my neighbourhood with multiple Pet Only dogs and none registered. I would think the percentage rather high??
  19. Trying to sleep and this godawful stench come floating across the room, grabs me by the throat and shakes me awake! Did my dog poop in my bedroom???? Surely not, oh no she farting like an Old Brewery Horse!! Nobody warned me about that..... but my darling OH felt obliged to pipe in that I had the same problem in my late confinement too! Thanks dear. Yes, digestion is tricky when everything is squashed in.
  20. I'm not to sure of the details but my sister was telling me of a Pet Supplies Store in South Morang, Melbourne that does that very thing!!! They place "Poundies" as you called them. My mother got a Moggie cat from there after her old girl passed away.
  21. I totally agree, why not a few short Ads onTelly???? Costs I suppose, surely the RSPCA would love to help with fundraising for that??!!
  22. I'm fairly sure it was a "Rescue" based store. I'm sure I read that on the front of the building?????
  23. Well, I hope you didn't have those little black things in your loungeroom ..... you rogue breeder you! Actually, come to think of it one of my litters spent quite a bit of time in the BED-room one cold winter, so I guess that would put you in the rogue category too. Stoopid people have got the wrong end of the stick, yet again! Souff Well I have my Whelping box set up in the bedroom! Why would a "family member " who sleeps in that room suddenly get "put out" at one of the most crucial times of her life???? AND I plan to move the puppies into the family room so they can become acustomed to the "sights and sounds" once they are mobile and old enough. I must have passed "Rogue Breeding 101!
