The article states that the guy had "mental health issues' dah...he stabbed his best mate in the heart! FFS. Obviously he was not the "full quid", poor dog, probably never had an owner with half a brain cell, some peoples train of though and idea paths are really, really scary. I think the heart attacks were probably secondary unrelated health issues aside from the diabetes.

You don't want anyone to buy this puppy for the reason you stipulated but have you actually thought what grim fate would await this poor pup if nobody was to buy it? The only way to stop this is to end puppy farms which, if the RSPCA has anything to do with it, will take place. How many pups would end up destroyed if members of the public ceased purchasing them? It really irks me endlessly when so-called "do gooders" of this forum forever insist that people should stop purchasing pups from pet shops in order to stop the indiscrimate breeding carried out by puppy farmers! That is not the solution, the only way is to stop the puppy farmers themselves! I can't help but get the feeling that some individuals are not all about the welfare of the pups involved but more to do with resentment due to sales of purebred dogs versus DD. DOLERS are only a small percentage of the populace. If a DOLER asks other DOLERS not to support or condone the purchase of puppies from a Pet Store that does not mean that they don't expect that the dog will eventually be purchased from a member of the uneducated general public. OR that they wish the dogs ends up in a pound or worse. Of course the source is a important part of the problem but it really is all about supply and demand.

Yeah and what peeves me is the 1000's of people who'll ring in to adopt "Ginger" if asked if they would like to look at adopting another different dog will, of course, decline.

Shcv Championship Show Towel Found At Melb Royal
LizT replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
Just lucky to have unpacked and packed in the same parking space too, when I saw it there still I thought, hmmmm, pity and at first I thought it was just a brown towel but then I saw the yellow writing and well, you know how I am with my 'mementos" ! Plus the writing made it traceable. -

You've been given some great advice here TrinaJ. As stated if the Vet doesn't insist and can give you no real reason for doing a C-section then don't. Just be prepared for any outcome (as you would have done in any case). A lot has been said about the bitch getting tired and that is why you are there for her. My little Cav only had the energy to push out number 4, she didn't attempt to do the cord, lick or any thing at all, unlike the previous 3, which we had done together, she was pooped at that stage and just lay there. I did all that for her and she was back in the game for number 5 and 6. You may find this happens at intervals along the way with a large number of pups. Just because she gets a bit tired doesn't necessarily mean she's out of the game. So don't let it stress you if it happens relatively early. Good Luck.

I'm sure that there must have been someone looking after the other rings too. Perhaps not all at the same time though.

Shcv Championship Show Towel Found At Melb Royal

Thanks. Another smart DOLER has worked out that SHCV is the SIBERIAN HUSKY CLUB VIC. looked up the results, checked her profle, PM me. I've emailed her. -
A brown towel was lying in the gravel next to where I parked my car to unload this morning (Wednesday 22nd Sept) at 7.30 am. It was still there when I packed up to leave at 6.00 pm this evening. I have a feeling it may have been there since yesterday. I chucked it in the car at the last minute because I thought this would be a better way to find it's owner as they may not be at the Melbourne Showgrounds again. The owner may want it as it was clearly a 'prize' as it has enbossed in yellow thread the words 2009 SHCV Championship Show Opposite Australian Bred In Show

Yep, it used to be used on white linen, I think it ws called "Bluo", now I'm showing my age! ;) So the purple shampoos do work as I used them on my pintos and grey arabs for years. I've heard alot about Sard for stains and I've even used it on grass stains on horses hocks and knees. I'm a bit hesitant to use it on my Cav's as they are a skin sensitive breed already!

You're going to be sooooo busy! :p FUN FUN FUN ;)

Sorry to hear there is no puppy. So it would seem that with a phantom you get possibly everything except the phantom puppy??? I wonder in these situations whether there was in fact a pregnancy but it was absorbed? Better luck next time.

Thanks Ellz, Oh yes, like women taking folate rich foods prior to becoming pregnant to avoid Spina Bifida? Which food would be rich in folate suitable for a dogs diet or would supplements of folic Acid be given? I've also found out that some entire litters are born with all the puppies having a cleft palate...how sad is that! It's believed to be due to high amounts of Vitamin A.
-
I have whelped 2 babies with this - Mum was an Oodle and Dad god-knows what. Born alive Yes, that's the sad part, because they are in a self-contained, sterile environment with a life support system (placenta) and no need to 'eat' they are usually in 'good health'. A strong argument for keeping something like 'ether' on hand. You've got to take them away from Mum pretty quickly as her instincts is to lick them vigorously and, well, I wont get graphic, but the outcome can lead to cannibalism.

Yes, Dancinbsc My vet said it was more common than many realise, often entire litters have it and appear to be suffering from a "failure to thrive" until, as you say post mortom checks are made. When checking a newborn it is unlikely a Vet is going to pry it's delicate jaw open and Stick a light down it. They gently check for the more easily seen hole in the roof of the mouth. I had one breeder just tell me "she's never had one" but really, she has lost puppies that have "failed to thrive' or "struggled" but not had them checked out after they passed on. So who knows. Interestingly, my recent research has shown that it is connected to a "mid-line" congenital deformity, where fissures remain open along the midline of the body, most probably occurring during early cell division of the embryo. Giving you such conditions as Cleft Palate, Spina Bifida and umbilical hernias. Thankfully the girls are all doing well and getting rounder! Good research LizT that is indeed when deformities of the newborn occur also gastoschisis, undetermined sex in the genital organs, bifucated brain. ...and abdominothoracic fissure, incomplete closure of the body cavity. Where the vicera is exposed. Poor babies

:D Just as well BB, this place has a 'revolving door' and I couldn't keep it quiet if I tried, much to my lament as a shift worker! ...and I can't keep my hands off the little cuties! BTW Eyelids are starting to 'define' and noses are darkening...so cute. -

Dogmad she looks just like a Maltese X I adopted 30 years ago, we called her "Gyrle" she ws a stray and in a poor state but the face is uncanninly similar. I'll see if I can find a photo to scan. -
You have to wonder why the Presbyterians are so afraid of the idea that dogs could have souls and end up in heaven. That's interesting because the "Catholic Church" that I grew up with 40+ years ago didn't believe animals had souls, it was a few kind nuns who said quietly that they did that cheered me up as a small child! Personally, I feel that there is 'something' going on that we don't quite grasp...but it always feels just out of reach or like a faded memory....that's a feeling I've had as long as I can remember...
-
Beautifully put. I've always thought as the 'soul' as the life force' or 'energy'. I have a coffee mug that states, "God forbid that I should go to any heaven in which there are no horses" -R. B. Cunningham Graham I feel that way about most of the 'furries' on this planet. ps. I am not 'religious' but do believe in the "devine".

Well Meaning Friends Want To Visit The New Babies!

Well when you do have your first litter Dyzney, it will be a very exciting time for you. You will also find that for the first 10 days to 2 weeks they really won't be needing much "bombardment of socal interaction" as you put it, as they are both deaf and blind with both eyes and ears sealed. The only real interaction they will need at this stage is the physical stimulus of their mother. And she will need yours, as your approval of her litter, as "pack leader" is of the utmost importance to her. Yes, it's absolutely essential to socialise young puppies so as to avoid the risk of a fearful puppy, but any parading of friends you do in the first few weeks really won't rub off on them. In a pack situation they would only start interacting with the other pack members at 3-4 weeks, depending on how mobile they are. Hi LizT, thank you for your advice. Just to clarify, whilst I have not actually whelped a litter under my prefix to date, I have whelped several litters and have assisted raising many others, and of various breeds. The 2 initial senses puppies rely on for survival is their sense of smell and touch. To summarise, we all do what we believe is the best thing when raising puppies, and IMO regarding this sort of thing, there is not necessarily a right or wrong way. Agree -
