  1. Ah.... there's not much "laid back" about poodles. CKCS are way more laid back than my woolly friends are. Ask her if she wanted a small SUV and someone bolted the front end of a Nissan Micra to the back end of a Nissan Patrol would it look like a Micra but drive like a patrol? That's the crap that 'breeder' is spinning her. For the record, some of the poodle crosses out there can only be described as HYPER. No doubt the quality of the parent breeding stock has something to do with it. Get her to ask the breeder if she'll take the dog back if it doesn't end up looking like a CKCS but acting like a poodle. That might produce an interesting result. Having owned a most wonderful pet miniatue poodle for 17 years and now being heavily involved with Cavaliers I personally would not liketo see the possible "Russian Roulette' of cross breeding the two. I've know many poodles and if they are laid back it is just due to good training a them waiting to be allowed to "cut loose".
  2. BRILLIANT suggestion, Souff! Except that they will also make Registered Breeders give a 10 year "warranty' and despite the best health checks, screenings etc. you CANNOT give a guarantee on the lifetime of any animal, nor should a breeder be expected to. No, no, this special deal in legislation is only to be for PET SHOPS. Breeders who sell from home and do not have the retail trade going past their door do not have the same selling advantages as pet shops you see, so breeders and their organisations must ask the nice men and women in parliament to exempt them from the warranty because it is just a HOBBY. This one is only for pet shops who have COMMERCIAL premises. Pet shops cannot say that they have a hobby, they have a retail business, and therein lies the difference. If I buy a used car from a car dealer, in many states of Australia the dealership legally has to give me a warranty on that car. If I buy a used car from the bloke around the corner, he does not have to give me a warranty because it is a private sale and I take the risk, not him. If the laws about warranties on used cars have changed again (cos I havent looked lately) then please let me know. Now, where are all those groups who want pet shops to stop selling puppies ........ Souff My concern was every time new legislation is brought in it seems to hit the legitimate breeders harder and faster rather than the BYB's, pet shops, puppy mills etc.
  3. Interesting...what does this "warranty" cover? You would have to be very careful as it could be open to abuse by certain types. But yes, certainly would take the shine off Pet Shop Puppies. That is for somebody else to work out, not me. Done my bit. Will now return to being the laundry slave and dog food maker. Souff No I was asking Poodlemum what her warranty covers as I'm in the process of putting together contracts and puppy packs for my bubs. I did 5 loads this weekend !
  4. A few months back some people my OH knows dog went missing, I posted a picture of it in the "Lost" section, the owners stated it was a Pom. When I asked my OH how big it was he described a dog the size of a Miniature Poodle, kind of midsized dog. Definitely NOT the toys I see in Group One. I suggested it may have been crossed with another Spitz Breed??? They now have a new Pom, as sadly the missing dog had been hit by a car. The new dog is considerably smaller. However....... Whilst being over the breed standard height (as you state your Pom is tall, no mention of large) might not always preclude a dog from being breed by an experienced breeder, who may find other stronger traits are passed on by this particular animal, and being over height may not have been the fact for the entire litter, it is not a good starting point for the novice breeder. Best you keep your pet as a pet.

  7. i bought my cavalier x poodle (vet told me she can not see any poodle in her at all) from a pet shop (i have since been educated in regards to why this was the wrong thing to do) and i was not given much information in regards to grooming, BUT, when i got home and got her to sleep that night i got on the internet and looked up as much information that i could, brought the required combs and comb her every second, day, i have booked her into a groomer that i use for my cat, and she has her first appointment in 4 weeks, i have bought books on how to care for cavaliers, bathing, grooming, training, ect i understand that some people fail to treat their pets with respect but not all do, people need to realise that it is their responsibility to care for the puppy and to find as much information as possible, i have found many sites very helpful, including this one, found many books helpful, as well as talking to people who own such breeds No i did not get any information but it did not stop me from finding it out myself mollie is so spoilt and is well groomed and well loved If your Vet doesn't see poodle in you little girl you may be blessed with a dog that has thrown to her Cavalier ancestory and may have a coat that is easier to manage than most Cavaleir X Poodles are. Although bear in mind that when you have her desexed often the Cavalier coat becomes heavier in the neuter and you may then need the help of a professional to teach you to manage it. many people have said lately that you can not see any poodle in her, one even asked me was i sure she was a cross and she could have sworn she was full breed cavalier and that i was very lucky to get a cavalier from the pet shop for $500, ( i have now been educated through this site as to why i should not have done this) i have read about when cavs get desexed that their coat often becomes heavier and that regular grooming is esential, and i already have her booked in in 2 weeks for her first visit to the groomers, it is one we use regularly for my cat and mollie will also go regularly Good on you. Just fuming this morning as a very good friend of mine whose daughter BYB Cavaliers mentioned to my son when he told her we had recently had a little of puppies that her daughter has just mated her Cavalier bitch to a Poodle, but thinks she may have missed and is not pregnant. I hope so.
  8. Flame suit should come standard issue! On a more serious note it's nice to see people getting informed decisions regarding ideas they have. Good on you Samantha.
  9. Vile people that do this type of thing...drug addled minds I think, must be, no rational thought processes working there. When I was in grade 5 my brother tried to stop me coming through the back gate, he had just walked in ahead of me. As I pushed past I found out why. Some sick fiend had slaughtered our pet rabbits and lined them up on the back fence, propped up as if sitting on the fence. They had broken into the hutches and killed all except one beautiful buck, whose pen was hard strongwire with a padlock, we immediately rehomed him to my yougest sisters kindergarden for his own safety. The Police said they could do nothing and suggested it was dogs that killed our rabbits. Two years in prison and a $ 25,000 fine...not enough for the b@#$tards that torture innocent victims.
  10. Congratulations and may you be spoilt for choice!
  11. Here's one that did my head in a little while back..... Fluffy little "MalteseXBichons...what colour were they.......BLACK explain that one please pet shop lady???? Are you sure they are not PoodleX ? Red face as she tries to recall if she's got it wrong?
  12. Best news EVA! Hope she continues on this healing path and is soon her ol' lovely self again! Collective sigh of relief going up around country...
  13. Aren't all mummas light sleepers? You've had kids you know how it is with post natal bladder control! Jetts gotta do her "pelvic floors"!
  14. Nice to hear they are doing so well, they are so sweet! ....and how are you doing???
  15. This is for everyone that's posted and waiting.......
  16. watching..waiting..hoping...refusing to think the worst. Positive thoughts only.
  17. So no spontaneous affection then?? sounds a bit harsh, I pat my dogs sometimes...just because...life needs more just becauses :D I have Cavaliers and they were bred to be on the bed, sometimes this gets to be too much, since I work night shift they sleep on the bed with me only during the day, when I go to sleep in the evenings they spend a bit of time with me, when OH comes to bed he puts them in their crates/beds, they are okay with this as it has been a routine since they were puppies. My GSD spent the first 7 months of his life sleeping in his bed in the family room, when my old dog passed away he stayed out with our Border Collie X as they became close during the final days of the old dogs life. He was happy to cuddle up with her and we left him out on the back patio with her. She has since passed away and he sleeps out there still. Whatever you decide to do will take persistence and time, but it looks like you are headed in the right direction.
  18. Poor little Sophie...she must think she's seeing spots!! Good to have co-opeative neighours, hope everyone (well the boys) settle soon. We had to extend the fence on our neighbours side when our GSD decided it might be fun to chase their chooks. Funnily enough he jumped it just as a fox was in their yard, we like to think he was 'saving' them but I suspect he thought chasing chickens looked like fun and was going to join in...luckily I'd just got home seconds before all this unfolded. I'm sure he would have 'grabbed' a chook. As it stand he ws credited with 'chasing off a fox"..yeah right.
  19. LOL Yep. Dylan learnt some new things today! Lifes lessons for Dylan: 1. Bossy lady doesn't really want you eating disgusting smelly dried up entrails 2. When Bossy Lady tries to take disgusting entrails off you don't dart away like it's a funny game 3. Bossy Lady doesn't like you taking smelly animal remains into the back of the car. 4. Dont mess with Bossy Lady after a 2 hour walk on a hot day when she's tired and grumpy and hasn't eaten yet!!!!! and the BIGGEST lesson..... 5. If you do all of the above and dart away from Bossy Lady when she's trying to get entrails off you and get you in the car Bossy Lady will pack everyone else into the car and drive off and leave you there. End result, Dylan has to run a LONG way to find out where Bossy Lady and the gang disappeared to - sans disgusting entrails!!!! Watch out for CCTV's LOL. They'll get you for 'dumping your pooch"! (ref. story in UK where very nasty man drove off and left his dog ) BTW Did you know "Dylan" means "Son of the Wave". Legend is he was the twin of the sun who went to live in the sea. His uncle killed him and when he died it was said that all the seas wept. No I didn't know that! What a great legend. ;) As for the CCTV LMAO - it's okay - all I'd get is a slap on the wrist anyway far as I can tell BTW Do any of you remember in Tangos early days here he used to go up to Pepper in her bed and bark at her to make her get out so he could have it??? He hasn't done that in a long time but just now I heard Dylan making a funny moaning sound and then Tango barked and I looked around and saw Pepper and Dylan curled up together in the bed that's in the sun. Tango is standing over Dylan trying to intimidate him so that he'll get out and let Tango in. Dylan is rubbing his nose into the blanket and moaning. Tango barked and snarled. Dylan didn't move hahahahaha Pepper ignores it all - she no longer cares. So, as I type, Tango is still standing over Dylan, staring intently at him, waiting for him to be intimidated. Dylan is keeping his eyes averted but not budging. Somehow I don't think Dylan is the pushover Pepper was. .............. Oh wait. Tango just went to plan B. He just darted up the hall barking as if something was wrong. Dylan followed. Tango ran straight back and took his spot and is now curled up with Pepper!!! ROFLMAO Dylan is in the other bed moaning and whinging. Clever Tango ;) I think Dylan is still playing the "Puppy card" but it's great that Tango is using 'clever' strategy when intimidation fails. (My eldest, now 20, is 'Dylan')
  20. Awww...lovely bubs. Are they all black?
  21. Excellent advice! How are the puppies Trinaj? Sorry about your the lost puppies. BUMP.... how are the puppies and you doing?
  22. Poor fella, even the most minute pimple would feel huge against his eye. The fatty cyst my dog gets 'refils' and need attending to from time to time. I hope Odins doesn't follow the same behaviour. BTW cool name Odin...my brother had a Norwegian Elkhound called Odin.
  23. They look very similar to the trees we have here that we call Lilacs. I have been told the berries are toxic and have researched and been told that one can cause a problem, to they need to eat lots! Lewis has a particular attraction to them and I am always teling him off when he goes near them. He has eaten the odd one here and there because he is so determined and had no detrimental side effects. I still try to stop him eating them and if he is caught with one in his mouth he will generally spit it out. ??? I have lilac trees in my garden, both the white and mauve and there are no berries on these trees???
  24. Also of note is the fact that if your animal turns out to be exceptional (they all are of course!) you can, if the breeder is agreeable, transfer your dog from Limited to Main with a signature and a fee.
