  1. Jed, to me "Pets Only" means that they will be sold on the Limited Register and are NOT for Showing or Breeding. The fact that they are sound, healthy animals does not mean that they have to be bred from. As far as I am concerned ALL puppies born should have at least had an attempt to be produced as "Sound , healthy pups anyway. Of course, things frequently go wrong, but if it is so severe that it would affect the animals quality of life or mean a lifetime of medication and expenses I would put the pup to sleep first anyway. I have spoken long and hard with this woman and I believe that this request was born of a 'whim' that she romantically indulged in after seeing this "lovely little puppy with her beautiful face" and going home and "day dreaming' about it. Can't say I haven't been guilty of the same thing in the past either. She has bought the puppy will full understanding that she is on the Limited Register. She has signed a "desexing Contract" and a buyers agreement (yes, I realise it's not worth the paper it's printed on, it is purely a deterrent) and I am happy with that until it comes back and bites me in the arse.
  2. Hmmm...and you get the "someone is killing me scream" combined with the "I'm gunna kill someone growl" quite confronting! Come to think of it I think I remember a similar noise emitting from my kids when they were small!
  3. I offer a cash back on proof of desexing. Buyers are required to provide a vet certificate. A incentive is a good encouragement for them to follow through with the procedure and the bonus is you know when its done and can stop worrying so much. But there is no guarantees, dishonest people could still do wrong thing but we have been bless that our pet owners have all been trustworthy folks. Personally recommend my buyers to wait till the dog is 6 months old or older till they enter into such procedure. I've done the same and I have a vet who WONT do infant desexing, I'm also yet to find a Cavalier Breeder who does it. They are not a fine boned breed and I think it is important that they get closer to sexual maturity. And also worth thinking about, is the fact that they are desexed ONLY controls what becomes of them as a breeding dog, it does not preclude them from mistreatment, neglect or guarantee they wont end up in a pound or as a Rescue case.
  4. You will find a lot of difference in opinion on Labradors weight. It is a fine line and provided the animal is not obviously overweight there is no real cause for concern in a pet. However if the dog is a Show Dog I've noticed that there is an "all important layer of fat", not overweight , but there I would imagine to 'Show', that this animal is bred to be a water dog and it has that layer of fat to protect it from the cold icy waters in which it would be retrieving say, ducks and other water fowl.
  5. It is not as sinister as it may seem. The husbands twin brother breeds and trains Pointers for the Defence Force in the UK and also trains them as Gun dogs for others. He is a Registered Breeder. The friend with the Terrier "breeds and Shows" therefore is a Registered breeder not BYB. It's just that I did breed this litter for Pets only, and I can understand people being interested in breeding and it may well be something she (the new owner) has thought about doing a fair bit. I think I just need to reiterate that this Puppy is not for that purpose. Pesonally I don't think becoming a Registered breeder is a closed shop, but people shouldn't do it on a whim. Not everything with a uterus should be bred.
  6. I am not keen on "infant desexing" but am seriously looking into it. I have a desexing contract that they will sign or no Puppy.
  7. I know you experienced breeders get this ALL the time but...shish.. Okay, the enquiry was for a Pet, they have an Elderly desexed male and they came out to see her on Thursday. Saturday is the earliest you can have her I tell them when they say how much they love her and when can they take her. Great coming back Saturday morning to collect her. Friday night phone call....."Wondering if you could put her on the Main Register for us as I would love to breed her and have a friend who breeds 'such and such Terriers', I'm very experienced with dogs, and often look after hers, I'm will to join DogsVic etc. etc. rada rada. Me.... Sorry she is being sold as a pet on Limited Register and I wont sell on main register to someone I just met yesterday who thinks they would like to become a breeder. They are still taking her but I feel sooo drained???? **UPDATE*** Today I got a copy of the Vets desexing certificate and am posting $100 refund as per my desexing agreement. Just in case you wondered how things finished with this little girl.
  8. Seems my daughters camera takes too large a photo for "Photo bucke", will have to reduce and re post them. Oh well.
  9. Have decided this is the one I'm keeping!
  10. Yes, they are such trusting little souls aren't they! Got to make sure it's a 'nice' big dog though don't you. Clancy has had a couple of 'altercations ' with dogs that have 'invaded his territory' so I sometimes worry and always supervise this playing with the little ones, JIC. BUt I think he undestands that they belong.
  11. Call me cynical.. Oh said same thing too. He wouldn't be easy to hide though?? How far/hard do you think they'd look for this dog? He'd be safe an hour away from the pound I reckon. There was a news report earlier in the week where a dog owner was sentenced to some jail time for springing his dog from the pound. It was under a destruction order for livestock killing/dog aggression. He got it out, moved to WA and it attacked he later had it PTS. I can hazard a guess as to why. ETA: Here's the article. Sound familiar? No, I'm thinking more along the lines that he is not your common garden variety dog and given the press cover would possibly be recognised by a member of the public. I don't believe they spend much time 'looking' at all.
  12. It is my understanding from what Vets have told me it is the"cleaning" of the teeth that releases bacteria, which in turn finds it's way into the bloodstream and causes problems associated with heart disease. This is why all dogs cleaned under General anesthesia are given a course of antibiotics.
  13. Call me cynical.. Oh said same thing too. He wouldn't be easy to hide though??
  14. Judging by other reports, I'd say a black and white dog was seen and I'd not assume anything more. :D No shortage of those!
  15. I'd be starting the search in the yards of friends and relatives of the owners. What sort of CAS would let a complete stranger handle him? The "Diamond Valley Leader" says the dog was seen wondering the streets of Greensborough after he'd been stolen. So whoever had him didn't 'handle' him for long at all!
  16. Don't know, without the full details one can only "speculate', could have been a jump up and slurp effort that resulted in someone getting knocked over, who knows what consitutes an "attack"???
  17. I wondered this too but apparently the heart can beat so low and slow as not to be easily detected.
  18. Yes, and I don't think SM will stop Joe Public from getting that "cute little puppy" from the Pet Shop window either!!
  19. According to the news article he was there due to a "legal dispute with the council over his behaviour". Think he'd been a naughty puppy? Perhaps he's an "escape artist"?? Oh I see, he'd had been a naughty puppy, attacking someone in August it seems???
  20. Hmmm...they have a picture of him and he has a face I just want to "hug and kiss".
  21. I've also discovered that the entire litter (5) will bitch and moan and whine at 3.30 am for no apparent reason (we got up and feed them, checked their water and changed the paper and they still carried on!) And they haven't even left home yet! So don't stress too much over the 'wingeing' puppy at night time syndrome.
  22. From the Herald Sun Monday November 1st. 2010 A rare, expensive dog is the centre of a police hunt after he was stolen from a pound. The dog, a 22 month old Central Asian Shepherd aptly named "Pirate" because of his distinctive colouring, was stolen by dognappers who broke into the Nillumbik dog pound in Plenty at the weekend. And at $5000 a pup, his owners are peeved, especially since they were fighting a legal battle to get him out. The theft of the black and white dog was discovered at 10.00 am yesterday when his family went to visit him. Unfortunately for them, Pirate had been housed at the pound because they were in a legal dispute with the council over his behaviour. Distressed owners said there had been three break-ins during Pirates 10 weeks at the pound. I've done everything to try to get them to secure the place. I've been fighting them like you wouldn't believe. He's a beautiful animal and I've lost him. They've stolen him because of the type of dog he is. He's very rare and I knew it would happen once they knew what he was. I just hope who evers got him will drop him back. Anyone with information is urged to contact Eltham Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 Anyone ever heard of a Central Asian Shepherd???
  23. Wow, there are some tuff little buggers aren't there! I have to say there are some breeds that I expect to see 'fighting' as often the adults will scrap a bit but I have found it surprising in Cavaliers as they seem to get on even with total strangers. The Cavaliers biggest problem is in thinking that every dog they meet is going to be friendly. Often they get hurt because they are not 'wary' enough of stranger dogs. But the bubbbas are 'wild things'. heheheheh
  24. My girls both bleed and then it just eases in quantity but not in richness of colour. I guess the "straw colour' could occur when it appears the bleeding has stopped and they are keeping themselves clean. Matings have taken place while the bleeding is still strong at about day 9 for the first. I don't prog test (the stud handler) lets the (experienced) dog and bitch decide when they are ready.
