  1. The news story I saw gave the impression that the dogs were highly regarded and prized as pets. I must say that they were in pretty good nick and many that were on the beaches and roaming had collars on. Many were of camp dog type but in far superior condition to those found in our outback missions etc. There were also a number of people with what appeared to be purebred toy breeds and various larger spitz breeds. I hope this situation doesn't affect the Balineses love of their dogs or causes them to 'turn on' or abandon them.
  2. LOL reminds me of when I first started showing and was following the entry number only, not realising my bitch had been entered as a Dog. (not my error BTW) Judge feels for equipment and says to me "This is a bitch". "Yes??" was my perplexed reply. Fortunately very sweet Steward jumped in and explained I was a "newbie".
  3. I know what you mean, my German Shepherd does a wonderful impression of a guard dog but it's really the senior Cavalier King Charles bitch who is the real guardian of our family!! LOL
  4. Although very few people would spay a mare...it's far too costly. Geldings exist because there would be a hell of a rucus if there was a bunch of entire males running around at Pony Club! LOL I've alway though of Gelding classes as a celebration of the sire and dam and as an example of the progeny they have produced. If, hypothetically speaking, a judge is judging a dog based on it's visible attributes, let's face it , no judge can see most eye, heart defects etc. then it makes little difference if the dog is an entire or not. That said however, rules are rules and neuter classes need to be taken more seriously and put on for those that wish to show a neuter dog. Those that will show a neuter in a entire class will probably continue to do so. Especially if they are trying to add points to an Entire title. Wrong as that is.
  5. So did I but it was done via email and the website. I guess whoever processed your order didn't pay much attention to what you said and only looked at the "order' side of things. Glad you're more attentive with your site swayd!
  6. LOL I gave my standard stuff a little "grooming" when I first washed it to give it that 'new look' again! But I get the impression Swayd's vetbed is new and hasn't drained pee from the start? ps. After many washes I don't bother grooming each time but do give it a 'fluffup' when it looks a bit too bunched up. BUt it's only used as bedding now and doesn't get peed on.
  7. Whoa! The 44 gallon drum sure puts them into perspective. Awesome dogs. And cute puppy too! You say you got her mainly for security...is that simply intimidation or is there security training involved?? I wouldn't attempt to get past one of those guys.
  8. Yes, we had some last night and I'm thinking "What the???". Considering they are illegal except by a licenced fireworks handler there are an awful lot out there going off!
  9. I guess being at a Dog Show on New Years Eve at KCC Park is a guarantteed NO FIREWORKS ZONE!
  10. When I had recently brought both my girls in as they were both sick at the same time I got charged one consultation fee and the other was a "check up" fee, such as they charge on a follow up consult.
  11. I emailed to order mine as I needed a non standard size. In the email I said I was expecting a litter and this would be used in the Whelping Box and that I had not used it before. I was not told anything like that, if I was I would have purchased the other one. I bought mine from the fellow at KCC Park. I can well imagine urine causing the rubber to perish quicker too.
  12. Hmmm......might be an idea to pack some insect repellant, the mozzies are feral after the rains we've had recently.
  13. From what I gathered in the News story the problem is that the Welfare groups are going around vaccinating dogs and the locals are going around culling dogs, which then leaves the territory open for more unvaccinated dogs to move in. A terrible cycle of "knee jerk reaction" versus "attempts at control".
  14. These things can happen too. Don't feel like a mommy failure! We had a really bad day yesterday (my baby is 14 weeks old) and it felt like I had missed opportunity after opportunity yesterday with 3 or 4 "mistakes" and outside trips 'missed". What a day!! The 'mistakes' were my fault and I took her out afterwards each time, cleaned up the mess and 'moved on'. Today is a 100% 'hit' day and everyone seems more relaxed. As I said, these days can happen. They are still babies after all.
  15. I haven't received my number yet, but with Australia Post only working 2 days this week I'm not surprised, there maybe a long line at the Secretaries office at the start of the show. I believe the show was outdoors last year, and I do again hope it is this year, it is so much nicer seeing dogs on grass than the dull inside concrete. The atmosphere is so much more enjoyable :D Best of Luck everyone and a hope you have a fabulous NYE I also got my numbers early last week. Thre is no backlog of mail and volumes have been low since Christmas Eve. Maybe best to check with secretary?
  16. What sort of "knowledge"? Perhaps she is referring to the "injection" of other similar breeds into a Purebred line which is no longer acceptable practice since the vigourous monitoring of "Studbooks" but was common practise to "improve" or "establish" some "hybrid vigour" into a Purebred line in days of yore. Or as has been done in the past in the case of resurrecting nearly extinct breeds. As to poor Doug he is not ugly he is malformed and this should not be celebrated. Nice that someone is willing to care for him but I doubt he will live a long and happy life.
  17. I also saw this Report last night. It is a very worrying situation. Given that this disease was not even present in Bali until 2008 and given the number of Australian tourist that visit Bali, without proper diligence it could easily get into Australia via some "nuff nuff" getting nipped by an infected dog and not taking proper action.
  18. I'd want to know as well, and for this reason. Yes, for this reason if no other. Under these conditions it sounds like they will soon be looking for another bitch! Poor girl.
  19. I was specifically told by the vendor to use the standard as that is the one for whelping boxes and that the rubber back is more for bedding in areas of slippage such as in pens and crates etc. I was told it was designed for use on polished boards etc. I have seen many others with rubber back that has also flaked with time.
  20. Have been doing that and also letting him off lead in the garden AFTER he has toileted for some "play time" with the others and us. He also gets taken for little walks and I used the belly band last night so he could safely have some "family time" with the rest of us but was corrected when he decided he might like to try to lift his leg on the coffee table. He has very little muscle tone so I'd like to see him out of the crate for more periods. That said I leave it open and he has access to it so when he's had enough of us he can go back there. I then take off the belly band and close the crate. He is always lead out to toilet, in the first few days he tried to dawdle and sniff a few potential spots but now he walks in front of me to the door.
  21. Well I'll continue doing as I've been with regards to his "Puppy toilet training". I'm not expecting miracles with the desexing, just hoping that when the hormones eventually subside it might contribute to the big "house training" picture. What I did yesterday though is AFTER he had been outside and thoroughly toileted. I let him have free run of the same areas our dogs do in the house but I tied a flannel cloth nappy around his middle over his boy bit. Then when he went to cock his leg I said "Arrrahhh"!! and he stopped, this happened three times and I'm hoping he will get the idea without it leaving any scent to encourage further marking. I am willing to give him as long as it takes but I don't know how long I have?? This has not been made clear to me so I must find out. The three others that were liberated at the same time as him (one male, two females) have already been desexed and two of them are just waiting for their stitches to heal before rehoming. I want the best possible outcome for this little guy.
  22. No, little black barge dogs at either Show on Monday. Lunch was modest but nice.
  23. My little Tri baby puppy bitch Clover got a second in the morning. Then she got a first in the afternoon and got Baby Puppy of Breed. :p She was so funny bouncing around on the lead and doing "helicopter spins", she's quite mad you know! So much personalilty and so much fun this little one. Barely napped at all during the day..far too much to see LOL But gosh I was pleased to be in my car with the heater on for the 2 hour drive back to the Yarra Valley! It was soooo bloody cold. It's lovely and sunny here this morning, I hope you have nicer weather in Lancefield today!
