  1. This has been quite a thread to read...the agony and ecstasy of houndbag buying. I followed the link...if you scroll down from where it says the listing is over, I think it has been relisted
  2. Just found this: Do vaccinations guarantee that my pet will not sick? Vaccinations cannot stop an animal from becoming infected by a virus, but they do reduce the chance and severity of infections and make recovery quicker. This is the reason that dogs may still pick up Canine Cough, even when vaccinated with a C5, or why cats can get the flu even when fully vaccinated. The benefits are that they are generally less unwell than an unvaccinated animal, and more resistant to the development of disease. So I will wait and see...I feel like I'm having a private monologue, sharing the contents of my thought process on a public forum Hope it's interesting for someone else!
  3. Hmm...I just Googled Kennel Cough...but I thought with the C5 vaccination he should have been protected?? *goes back to Google*
  4. I worked overnight, leaving Tonka in one room as I normally do, last night. When I came home today he had a little, frequent cough. It isn't severe but is "lightly throaty" and happens at least once every five minutes, more if he is active. He has just come from five days at a kennel last week, got his yearly vaccination before he went, plus I ran out of his normal food, so pulled an open bag of dry food from the cupboard to tide him over until I get to the shop tomorrow...the packet has been open for a while and he has been having it since yesterday. As quite a new dog owner, I'm wondering if I should do anything. Once before, he was sneezing when I got him back from the kennel and I went to the vet...but it didn't seem required... Should I wait a few days to see? It has only been today. Plus I'm not giving him anymore of this dry food!
  5. At this very moment, Charlie is at the animal hospital getting some check up xray done. Should be picking him up about 3pm, and find out if his back is better or not. Goodluck. He's very cute!!
  6. It's the breed name. German Shepherd Dog beeder etc. Like a Bernese Mountain Dog.. If it wasn't for the added "dog" on the end, you might not know someone is talking about. Other examples: Anatolian Shepherd Dog Australian Cattle Dog Australian Stumpy Tail Cattle Dog Belgian Shepherd Dog Bergamasco Shepherd Dog Bernese Mountain Dog Canaan Dog Canadian Eskimo Dog Central Asian Shepherd Dog Chinese Crested Dog Italian Corso Dog Kangal Dog Maremma Sheepdog Old English Sheepdog Peruvian Hairless Dog (Perro Sin Pelo Del Peru) Polish Lowland Sheepdog Portuguese Water Dog Pyrenean Mountain Dog Shetland Sheepdog White Swiss Shepherd Dog Gee I should pay more attention
  7. I was confused about GSD too I must say. I thought it had to be German Shepherd but including the D seems to be stating the bleeding obvious. I've never heard anyone say "My German Shepherd Dog is ....". Not all dog breed abbreviations have D do they? Like BCD or TSD?
  8. It's true that people buy the specialised oodle crosses in the spirit of buying a "breed". That is a problem/misinformation. In essence that really seems to be the issue, expressed thru the very inflated prices that people are willing to pay. Plus, the general belief that crossbreeds are more robust than "unhealthy, inbred" purebreeds which a lot of the oodle breeders propogate.
  9. Yeah, I was thinking maybe BF needs some training in negotiating a dark room with dogs in it
  10. It's a bit individual too. My dog wouldn't touch Eukanuba despite how good it was meant to be...he didn't like it!!
  11. He is certainly a cutie...a fine representative of the SWF brigade! I reckon he also does look like what you were told.
  12. I agree. Especially showing them the consequences. Like the huge number of small fluffies that Rescues like Monika's have to rescue. I agree. At least I didn't see them in the online store just now I reckon they won't want negative publicity.
  13. I would just tell them...you think it is inappropriate/stresses your dogs out more/ defies good old common sense
  14. Yes someone was looking recently and started a thread, but...
  15. Bondi Chow Chow, on looking at your previous thread and the depth of responses given to you there I have to ask why are you posting again? Is the message too hard to hear? People with chow experience have offered ideas and contact which I hope you will take up.
  16. Where is this other thread that a few are aware of? Would be interested to read...
  17. When I'm at a dog park I have to closely monitor my dog for a few reasons: first he gets a bit fear-aggressive and territorial around me and other dogs, second he is little and can simply get hurt by a bigger playful dog and three he sometimes looks like prey to certain breeds. When I have spoken to him when other dogs come along (usually "gentle" which makes him not go off at the other dog) often the other owner thinks I am worried about their dog! I have to say "no, I have to watch MY dog". So I see how a lot of misinterpretations can happen, and have been told by a few obnoxious owners "to relax," because they just assume stuff, but I know my dog! People get defensive around their dogs but I'm responsible for mine and need to do what I need to do to be able to use the parks. I've learnt to handle how complex the human relations, let alone doggy relations, can get at dog parks.
  18. I'd let them know about what happened from where you got it...they might know why it happened or it might be a "faulty" lot. Either way, you might minimize the chances of it happening again... Poor Riley, has he sat there again???
  19. I thought he seemed awkward and self-conscious being on camera...in the spotlight
  20. Happy birthday Poodlefan Hope you have a good celebration lined up!!
  21. Good news. Sounds like things are stabilizing. Reading this thread, as a new owner who had my own challenges with meeting other dogs on leash (my dog, not me!), I could also only think that it takes time for the dog to adjust to the new environment and settle with the help of good solid basic training. Having come from the pound and so young, the stimulation of new things must be over the top... Congrats on the progress
