  1. Hope he recovers well and good news your parents are talking about practical action to keep him safe. I had to smile when you wrote that he had barked at the vets...you can't keep a good old Pom down can you Big hugs for you both
  2. I agree with this approach. And even offer to walk around her boundary with her to look for the spot. Unless you or her need everything pristine, a small dog hole can be fixed with an old bit of board and a brick...very economical I do this a lot at friend's places when I take my papillon, so I can relax with putting him in their backyards. I never found a hole I couldn't block with minimum effort!
  3. Okay, three posts in a row... I have one dog and work very parttime and usually drop the dog off to friends, one with a dog...so right now he is not home a lot alone BUT soon starting three days a week 8 to 5-6... Will start doing more of a fixed walk schedule, of early morning and when I get home. Plus I then take him with me on weekends and other times...But frankly I think he gets sick of the car and might prefer to be home alone
  4. Oh I thought there would be a poll...bummer...but we can all answer. Maybe you can still add it
  5. This is an interesting thread!! I often worry about leaving my adult dog for long periods of time but work has meant that I have had to. Presently I work overnight once a week and occasionally twice. I take him to a friend's place but when she was away for a few months Tonka was alone at home sometimes from 6pm to 9am the next morning, depending on peak hour traffic. I always gave him the "special" raw meat on those nights Thank goodness I finish this work this week and go to working daytime hours. With city traffic I often have to add on 40 to an hour getting back and forth to work, so do some days 8am to 6pm. I do sometimes drop him off at friends' places but realize that he likes to be at home and just sleeps. I sometimes have a dog walker once a week to give him a break.
  6. Cute and lovely too. I just posted it to my Facebook. Thanks!
  7. Congrats all who got chosen Tonka is having a little prima donna sulk in the corner right now...oh no, I think he's sleeping
  8. Checking: he chose a sharpei, a gorgeous whippet, a bulldog, a dachshund, yes an "oodle", a west highland terrier, a dalmation, a chihuahua.
  9. I agree, the photos of Dante are very striking. I also can't believe some of the photos entered, half pug / half JRT eta when he specifically asked for purebreeds Yes agree. Dante looks gorgeous. Hey, he has white boxer on the list, does that exist??? And also I didn't see any Afghan photos...the pug owners really tried though
  10. I put Tonka on...but looks like he has chosen from the status update
  11. Good on you woodbyne and Voloclydes and Kirty I hope it goes well. I just have to say my judgements really come in toward the original owners...4 untrained dogs and some with cherry eyes...makes me mad I know ut is not helpful but it is truely what happens when I read about these situations.
  12. I just googled to have a look and remembered these little blighters from my years in India. They are very flighty and would escape soooo easily. I came across another animal forum discussing this very topic, seeing them in pet shops and asking about the "pest" aspect, and apparently only males are sold to avoid anyone else trying to breed them.
  13. I imagine that the main thing is to keep the pup contained and safe with everything it needs. It will probably just sleep a lot, and will have to adjust to the alone time.... but full-time working...I have never worked full-time with my dog.
  14. Two that are NOT funny, make my blood boil, which I see on Gumtree ads a lot (note to self...stop looking at Gumtree pet section): 1. We had a baby 2. We are moving and cannot take the dog with us. :cheer: :cheer:
  15. I totally sympathise! I took Tonka for a summer trim and he looked like a different dog...felt really remorseful! However, he did seem to like the change and I am happy to say that it has all grown back in time for winter, as if it had never happened Never again!! I got some really nice polar fleece/ felt type coats in nifty colours from a woman with a dog coat stall out at Windsor Markets on a Sunday. They cost $7 each because Tonka is so little. If anyone is out that way on a Sunday I recommend her products. I am sure she sews them herself and had raincoats too.
  16. Good news about the pups healing well and the owner of the attacking dog being found. Maybe this will be a positive experience of the system actually working as it should, to protect the public from further attacks. Fingers crossed.
  17. I wonder how the blind go about spotting that sticker.... Yeah, I wondered that too after I posted. Maybe they have to be in the company of a "sighted" friend
  18. Yay I was in a lovely cafe called Kelby's in Marrickville and saw they had a big sticker on their front door "Guide Dogs and owners welcome!" It was a delight to see!
  19. Borzois are such a striking breed, you might want to be careful that it isn't your pup itself that they were checking out. I don't want to be a scare monger but it just occurred to me reading this thread.
  20. Wow, nice offer. I will look for some piccies... Tonka is fast asleep on the doona. At about 9pm he just flakes out the poor little fellow
  21. Okay. I will ask for a fat quarter and pray to god that they know what I am talking about :D
