  1. That's very sensible. Do you do that in the warmer months?? I am very careful not to leave my dog in a warm car, but obviously you have managed the temperature for them ok.
  2. I was wondering who takes their dog on road trips with them and does the old sneaking the dog into the motel room. When I was looking for my dog, the woman who first introduced me to Papillons added, amongst her other positive notes, that Paps were small enough to be "popped in a Woollies green bag to go into the motel rooms" I was mightily impressed by this. Since getting my dog I have done a few long road trips but inevitably didn't stay overnight. Recently I have heard of a few people, with small dogs, who have done this for years... I have looked at the pet friendly accommodation but it never looks that nice, as opposed to staying in a nice motel. Has anyone done this?
  3. yay. So happy for Harry and Harry's owner
  4. When Tonka sets eyes on another dog he transforms into Tonka the Barbarian...
  5. My papillon could do it and it might end up a comedy. Bad idea/metaphor I would say and if I had a large breed I wouldn't want my dog appearing as a killer.
  6. I saw some more promo footage tonight about the story, footage from the puppy farm and there was a little papillon like mine...I feel like a whimp because I can't stand to watch the footage of the dogs in that condition...find it really distressing Maybe I will shut my eyes in those bits...
  7. Well, I thought fancy getting so loving and invested in the lamb getting better. Isn't it likely to end up at the abatoir in a few years?? Was half of Australia eating their grilled lamb chops as they watched Bondi Vet??? Not to say it wasn't a cutie and endearing...but how do a lot of sheep end up in this country
  8. Wishing Yogi a speedy recovery . So sorry that this happened but how could you have prevented it really? It was an unlucky and freakish occurrence. I hope Yogi is continuing to improve today
  9. I lost my parents a while ago now, but still feel the loss and know it has contributed to my anxiety now. I got my dog two years ago and he is such a great little mate and seems to know when I am fragile. Getting outside to take him for a walk is great... Glad to hear dwilds and bulli how you have gotten thru, and others too. I agree, owning a dog is so healing
  10. Thanks for posting this. I will tell friends with dogs in that area. What a worrying situation!! I can't imagine the mentality of someone setting up poison like that
  11. This is the other point...licking may keep it open, preventing the graze from healing. It is a bad idea all round I would say to let your dog do this.
  12. I'm sure we would all love to go with simple if it were possible. By naming things, seeking to label things, we are trying to work out the process happening with our dogs. Frankly, it is up to us to know and manage our dogs BUT imagine if you couldn't work out how to manage behaviour...complex!
  13. I am the same as Monah (too lazy to type). only difference to the above is it is generally other dogs on the street rather than many things as the trigger. I am stumped, tried many things, spent lots of money.
  14. Did you answer the part others have asked about if you are currently leaving them outside??? If so, leave them in, and do as suggested regarding being outside with them and teaching them to be quiet, possibly getting them to meet the neighbours (if the neighbours don't mind), and leaving on a radio or TV when left inside to create some human voice/company/sound filter. Good luck and keep us posted. When I learnt my dog was barking when I was out, I changed things totally to short circuit that becoming a habit. I tried to leave my dog well-exercised, comfortable and in a relaxed, den like environment, so he got the message this is sleepy time when Mum's away. It has worked very well.

  17. I have followed this thread since started and wish you all the best in sorting this out. One thing that I think has been jumped on is the "snapping at a child" as in the OP it was said the dog ONCE SNAPPED AT A CHILD THROUGH A GLASS DOOR. Now dogs can be different without a barrier between them and the fast moving little person on the other side... I know this may seem a minor point but I felt it got taken out of context and elicited some strong comments about putting the dog to sleep...which concerned me for the OP...consulting a behaviouralist and doing some management in between before resorting to putting a dog down seems much more appropriate.
  18. I think it is best to get a behaviouralist and maybe your vet can recommend one. You see the problem is in trying to describe it on here you may not be presenting it accurately. My dog also will lunge at fast moving kids, bikes, joggers and to certain eyes that might look "aggressive" however it is part of a bigger picture. Do get someone to assess your dog soon...it is really worth it and can shift things in a positive direction.
  19. I agree that a polite note is the way to go. People don't like being told what to do, but politeness and friendliness goes for miles and you are giving them info that they may not be aware of. So a name may not matter really. I would certainly do it this way from what you have described and understand your reservation to create a bad situation in a new, unknown neighbourhood. Good luck.
  20. Sorry I'm a day late Miss Ricky but I am impressed you are 16. Happy birthday
