  1. Because an animal doesn't have a deformity makes it more of value and worth. I see, numbers being saved over each life being saved. It seems really easy to put a dog to sleep, convenient. I would have thought that this was a unique positive story...
  2. I was doing a day trip up the coast with a girlfriend and each of our dogs. We got to a beach and had them on leash. I started running and Tonka was running in front and the little bugger decided to dart to the other side. I tripped on the leash and went flying frontwards into the hard wet sand. I was so shocked I couldn't get up for about 5 minutes and all these people kept coming up and saying are you ok The little mite would have been very sorry if I had actually landed on him!!
  3. Look at the clip with the cart built for him... I agree, I found the first one hard to watch but look at him in the second and if someone wants to go to that effort, looks like it worked well for the dog!!
  4. It sounds like one of those freakish things of nature that the breeder had no idea about, if not obvious when younger. Lucky your little dog got you who will see her/him right. I guess she will stay a she to you! If it was me I wouldn't be able to resist telling the breeder though!
  5. Yeah, that's scotty, the North Bondi pap. He travels every day into the city
  6. Great news. Thanks for coming back and giving us your experience. I had never heard of it until a week ago and may look into using it instead of Advocate
  7. What a great photo! That one could "go viral" here in Australia
  8. Thanks for posting the pictures. Their faces look quite similiar to the photo from Fraser Island, but they look a different colour...more grey.
  9. ...just what I thought but...as it also tends to be a little noisy...a yappity yap of Paps
  10. No, sorry, no tough decisions here. Sad as it is, you know what you need to do. Sad = tough
  11. Tonka gets people of all ages and both sexes. We get a lot of wonder from people who know the papillon breed but have never seen one in real life. A lot of people take a photo of him (including once a lollypop man who sent the photo to his mother as they used to have a Pap). Tonka is also good with kids, especially toddlers, and I get a lot of old ladies too.
  12. That pitch only works on people who are motivated to 'save' dogs and there is evidence that continued pitches of that kind cause folk to simply tune them out. People can reach sympathy overload. Its precisely that effect that caused savvy charities to come up with themes to get people to reopen their wallets. Red Nose Day was one of the first and most successful campaigns. Most people probably couldn't tell you what charity it supports. I agree. The RSPCA is in the business of rehoming dogs (hopefully) and in the end dogs are gogs irrespective of breed. It is a fun ad that shows different kind of dogs and a bunny too.
  13. So sorry to hear about little Jake...such a cutie, and that is a lovely photo of him and your son. Jack Russells are such hunters, it is true he went doing what they are meant to do...
  14. Thinking of you all in NZ, and your family and fur family members
  15. That probably makes sense as it was very well put together. And I did think it would be dangerous to let the dog lick the toad. The toad looked fake.
  16. This is a well made and funny video. Is it true??
  17. Keep him on leash when you take him visiting or for that matter inside your own home if he does it there and interrupt the behaviour just as he is about to lift. Let him do it outside. Check you are giving him enough toilet opportunities outside ie. take him out every 3 hours to offer an opportunity. I use a toilet command "Quick, quick" as he goes outside and "good boy" which after 2 years of dedicated doing this, he now toilets on command when I say the phrase and knows he has permission outside. Also, was there another dog at your friend's place as with my little dog, if another dog is there I have to watch very carefully as he goes into a different mode and starts trying to assert himself ie including leg lifting! The presence of another male dog can change everything!
  18. And offer the managing agent/owner to take up the legally condoned regular inspections of the property while you rent (not extras, but as they are allowed to do from time to time). That way you show confidence that you will keep the property in good order and that your pets will not damage anything.
  19. I just looked and it doesn't seem to be scheduled at the moment :D
  20. "Small white fluffy" referring to maltese type dogs
  21. Did you watch The Haunted yet DP? Curious as no one I know seems interested.
  22. Poor Malteses I looked once before and was amazed there was no Maltese breed forum. Hope you start one!! Maybe it reflects all the SWF bashing that can get going on here
  23. Hi and welcome :D Your girls are lovely. This is a great forum so I hope you enjoy!
  24. It sounds like a bit of an old-fashioned view of working dogs. It reminds me of my uncles and the kelpies on their sheep stations in the 70's, and the division made between the working dogs and the "house" dogs, australian silky terriers and crosses of (often with foxies). No luxuries for the working dogs that they would get used to. Having said that, often when they had one or two working dogs, they did bend the rules in term of affection towards them.
