Do People With Full Coated Breeds Use Coats In Winter?
Lady Flying Furball replied to a topic in General Dog Discussion
HAving such a little dog you may enjoy knitting a snuggly blanket for her :D I am doing Wrap with Love through my social work placement and have ended up knitting a little blanket for one of the client's dogs (homelessnes service). When I finish it I shall knit one for Tonka's bed as they are really good for winter and with a little dog a little knitting goes a long way -
Do People With Full Coated Breeds Use Coats In Winter?

I don't know how long you've had Lucy but I found Tonka gets more and more cuddly... After having him for about a year he really started to mellow. Now he still may sleep off the bed but equally may choose to sleep against my back and definitely is a true cuddler now! -
Dog Weight Management Survey
Lady Flying Furball replied to jaybeece's topic in General Dog Discussion
Done. I picked dry and home cooked to cover the raw. It is kind of home cooked or assembled :) -
Flyingfurball your vet said half that cost! Now they are cleaned why not use the Petzlife and Plaque Off to keep them that way. No more expensive vet GA's for Tonka. I certainly will do this!! I have to take him back to be checked in a week and the vet will put a program together which I believe includes these things. Thanks for your help as I was shocked I think that they were so bad. When I got him at 3 his teeth were beautiful.

That's okay Erny. I am totally depressed. Tonka had to have teeth removed and cost me $625 so over a thousand this year. I have to take him back for a check up and treatment plan from the vet. I just feel so annoyed as I would have done more after the first dental treatment if I had known but maybe it was too late anyway I just keep thinking that it can't be that hard to keep dog'd teeth healthy, can it

Yep, this food additive was recommended to me. I will also try to get some of the gel too. I give him dry food or a chicken wing so the food additive could be tricky. Apparently it goes well on wet food. I will also get a dental dry food like the prescriptive diet dental one. Apparently it is sprayed with fat which makes it taste yummy to them.

Okay, I just checked the vet surgery times and they are not open today at all. I feel a bit bad to cancel for tomorrow morning at such short notice so I am going to get his teeth cleaned which should be much cheaper as hardly anything on them and then take over dental care with a clean set of choppers. I don't want to burn my bridges with this vet clinic as they have been good. Just this particular vet always seems to clash with me (and me him). Last time I turned up to pick Tonks up after his teeth and the bill was over $600. The vet nurse saw that I was shocked and I told her that the vet had quoted $550. She let me go without paying and they gave it to me for the quoted $550. I feel a bit sheepish about cancelling at short notice this time because of that but seriously me and this particular vet don't get on. When I was having behavioural trouble with Tonka and other dogs this vet had been quite disparaging about me taking T to a wellknown behaviouralist out at Windsor, just because he hadn't heard of him and because of the name I'm going to tactfully avoid him and go to the other vet whom I really like.

Like this: http://www.whelpingsupplies.com.au/index.php?_a=viewProd&productId=88 or this: http://www.clipperworld.com.au/shop/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=431 Wow, I learnt something and it makes sense to do it myself. I know Tonka's teeth were brushed once a week before I got him and he is a very accomodating little dog so I feel confident to do this myself... :) Thanks all!!
-
How do you scale them yourself Dyzney?? With brushing? The vet said to get a baby or kiddles tooth brush.

They actually aren't bad at all. Just a little plaque coming back on the canine incisor...but lots of white showing. I think I am going to cancel Monday's op as I think it is crazy. Plus he wants him to go on a dental food. The vet says now this won't brush off, it has to be cleaned off

Hi, I am a bit disturbed as I had Tonka's teeth cleaned about 8 months ago and have been giving him many more bones since to keep his teeth good. I give chicken winfs 3-4 times a week and he has dry food and chews. I spent over $500 last time and I got a letter saying T was due for his free dentl check-up. Well, lo and behold the vet says they need cleaning and willl be easier this time as no extractions and just cleaning...so should be only around $250. I honestly can't believe that I am going to have to get his teeth cleaned under anaesthetic up to twice a year and minimum of $500. Surely this isn't so. I think little dogs can have more teeth things than bigger dogs but... Tonka is a papillon, will be 7 in August. Please let me know what you think

Homeless People In The City With Dogs
Lady Flying Furball replied to samoyedman's topic in General Dog Discussion
While this is all very nice in theory totalk about the 'norms' in pet ownership in Australia, the reality is that these people are homeless and want a mate. I also work with homeless people and they do their best, giving food to their dog over themselves. Their dogs won't be wormed, flea treated necessarily, desexed or vaccinated...but dogs that are are really lucky and often get better treatment than alot of people in this world. That's reality but don't judge these people as pet owners...they need their pets and many homeless services run pet care because they so often have a dog. -

Do Your Dogs Give You "presents"?
Lady Flying Furball replied to Squidgy's topic in General Dog Discussion
Tonka does that too. The minute I'm home he runs in and retrieves something from my bed, usually the chicken stick or snack I gave him in the morning -

Yep, I use similiar to the one pictured. I put it on a couple of broad flat cushions so he can see out the window. ETA http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Skybox-Car-Booster-Seat-Small-Dogs-Medium-Black-/200703266458?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item2ebad8ce9a -
I was wondering if you can keep her in the house while renos go on. My dog is an indoor dog and I go to work 5 days a week and he is inside the apartment. That way your dog gets used to both being left outside and some days being left inside so depending on weather you have more choice. I don't give my dog the run of the house but close selected doors and contain him, which has a settling message. I leave the radio on to buffer sounds and it is on a clasisical station to calm. I also give him his food on my way out... That way you could have the dog on the other side of house inside while noisy renos go on and can return to outside or a mix once they are done.

Show Us Your Comfort-lovers!
Lady Flying Furball replied to Lady Flying Furball's topic in General Dog Discussion
OMG. I can't let TOnka see those cosy fireplaces, beanbags and heaters :D -
So winter is here and part of this season for me is cosying up with Tonka on a Sunday afternoon... Tonka loves soft surfaces and barricading himself amongst as many cushions as he can manage. Here he is just now snoozing... Would love to see some of your cosy lounge photos... :)

House/dogs Sitter Needed In June For 5 Days
Lady Flying Furball replied to Tapua's topic in General Dog Discussion
Great way of going about it. I would try this because there will be decent and capable people out there for the job but you just have to find them. It sounds a lovely job for someone, even a retiree or widower etc. -
How gorgeous :) They come in quite a few colours don't they...love the black. Aren't you lucky getting a sleepover (probably with not that much sleep perhaps  )

Toy Breed Selection

Yes, think Mita is on the money here. Looking at purebre options doesn't necessarily fit with looking for a rescue as some mentioned may never come up! -
