  1. Well I am not sure what is happening in the planets for me but I hope it doesn't continue at this rate! This morning at around 7am I ended up with an Akita-looking dog bolting across to Tonka barking and nearly getting hit by several cars on busy Oxford Street. The dog had no tag and seemed a bit frantic looking for his owner i guessed. I ended up staying with the dog while a nice old guy who was the council street cleaner radioed the ranger...they were too busy and so the dog continued on with the street cleaner for a bit... I was not going to take the dog out of area, so it seemed better than nothing! He was a lovely dog but a bit scary looking, especially charging other dogs. Then at 5pm today, driving home along Centennial Park an old white lab nearly gets totalled and is racing around in a freaked out, lost way. So I stopped and called him off the street...no collar, nothing. Opened the car door to get him in but he again started crossing the road and nearly getting hit, then ran along the footpath. A lady came along with her two dogs and I asked her if she knew of this dog. She said it lived a house or two down and (praise the lord)said 'oh i'll go and look for him' when I told her about the near misses on the road. I drove off to her finding the dog and walking him back to the neighbour! Boy, it is so distressing to see lost, frantic dogs diving in traffic! I hate it and think I will carry a spare lead in my car from now on as I have heard others do on here. Had to get this off my chest as one is too many BUT two...
  2. These Petbarn dogs lost their home for some reason so they don't have one to go to. That's the problem. Shelter or pound is not ideal, just finding the next home to go to. I do believe that the pund or shelter would still be processing as normal.
  3. There are free PDF converters available, I can't look right now as all software sites are blocked on my work computer, but you should be able to google for a decent free one. CutePDF springs to mind? Google "DoPDF". I use DoPDF which is a free download and very easy...so easy a child or young dog (but over 8 weeks) could whip up a coffee table publication :D
  4. The little staffy I saw in Dubbo had the RSPCA morning visit as I arrived in store, the salesgirl had taken him for a run in the early morning, and it was very spacious, 'not cage-like' enclosure with a very high ceiling and natural light. He had a kennel and open space in there. There were three runs but just one dog in one. Poor little thing was stressed but I bet he's got a home by now...he had no competition. There were a few cats as well.
  5. It is so hard no know the true extent of the background and how individuals cope with terrible circumstances. From reading your post StaffyLuv and being on this discussion board where so many differences get challenged and assumptions jumped to, I am reminded of how vulnerable we all are really...compassion is so appropriate most of the time! Just having a bit of a compassion fest with myself right now actually!!
  6. the comment certainly made me wonder, chi's and many of the small breeds often only have single pups Give it a break! OP is clear about what this thread is about thanks :)
  7. Just saw this regarding a missing little boy and the three family dogs seemingly gone with him. Hoping they are taking care of him and he is found soon. Missing Boy Riley Martin, 4, goes missing with family dogs at Nambucca Heads AAP October 03, 2012 11:36PM A FOUR-year-old boy with Down syndrome has gone missing from his NSW home, apparently taking his family's three dogs with him. Riley Martin disappeared from his home at Nambucca Heads at midday (AEST) and has not been seen since. The boy, from Short St, is described as being of Caucasian appearance with short brown hair and was wearing red pyjamas and a black top. Three family dogs, two fox terriers and a kelpie, have also disappeared. Emergency services, volunteers and neighbours have been scouring the area around Riley's home. NSW Police said their search for Riley was suspended due to failing light, but local police were continuing to search overnight. A briefing is due to take place at 5.30am on Thursday before a major search resumes half an hour later. Local police, water police, the dog unit, the police airwing, PolAir and police on trail bikes will join the search, helped by volunteers from the State Emergency Service, Volunteer Rescue Association, Surf Life Saving Association and the Rural Fire Service, as well as local residents. Anyone with information on Riley's whereabouts is urged to call triple zero.
  8. I get you Thundercat and agree, which is why I truly hope that Petbarn as a big chain just does the dogs from RSPCA and other shelters, which I think is what I was told last week at Dubbo.
  9. A petshop...not a Petbarn which is the topic of this thread?? Just wanting to be clear as I'll be disheartened if they gave me the wrong info out at Dubbo
  10. I actually just saw the rspca dog set up in Dubbo. They said that Dubbo is the only dog set-up in NSW, other stores have cats. I think it is good. What difference is it whether they are at the shelter or at petbarn while waiting for a new home. I saw the RSPCA come and visit and the set-up was really lovely. The only thing was that the staffy seemed quite stressed and I felt sad for it but the salesgirl said she had personally taken it for a run in the morning. I feel the intentions are good. I would be disappointed if they are doing the pets paradise set-up and selling pups from puppy farms:(
  11. Well, you don't want to jeopardize that lawn mowing business!
  12. It's a sign of the times when the dog has to contribute to the household budget and paying for the kibble
  13. Sure PC. The joke is I put the canola field in the Where's this? guessing game thread and was surprised to hear that no one could guess as canola field all over Australia Lovely shots!
  14. You get around Tintin J don't you  So does the old canola field
  15. Love these against the backdrop of the brown water...Dubbo Western Plains zoo. I am using a little Canon Powershot These are on a drive out of Dubbo. I love landscapes and really like the textures of Aussie landscapes :)
  16. I like the second for the edited and the third for the portrait :)
  17. Apparently the owner dropped her into friends at that warehouse while the owner went to work nearby. I guess they lost the dog in the chaos of the fire and the poor thing went under the bed for cover.
  18. I am stll settling in to my unit & I want everything to be stable first, hopefully I should be ready in two weeks. My daughter has very kindly offered to pay for the dog I get, hopefully from Staffy Rescue. That sounds great. You'll give some dog a brilliant home and in the meantime it is great to help out other people with their animals. My friend lets me bring my dog to her yard once a week when I am at work, to be with her dog and give my dog a day out instead of the apartment. I cannot tell you how much I appreciate it!
  19. May it be the beginning of more to come! Sharing your shots is a great part of photography or any creative endeavour. It is a fantastic photo...love the way Gillybob brought the history to life, so true!
  20. How lovely! I also think that the toys that the garbos and other truck drivers put on the front of their trucks are good photo material. Maybe you have to be in the city to appreciate the variations!
  21. Oh, what a gorgeous little thing! She will be watching over you. RIP Miss Molly
