OK, this may not be the most appropriate with lyrics, but the best I could do at short notice. This is "Ben" by Michael Jackson, but when we do our DOL karaoke version, Ben will be exchanged with "Jed" and I was invisaging it being sung on behalf of her animals. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cwAmpn8ISV0 -

Sorry Caz, don't know how to play cribbage, but I am sure someone here does. But, I won't say no to your freshly baked cheese scones. mmmmmmmmm... yum All these dogs, all these people, yummy food, drinks, music and games. All we are missing now is Jed. I am working on a karaoke song with Jed in it.... I will get back when I come up with one. -

...popping back in with Jag and Dyz. Hi all. This new positive news on Jed has given me a pep in my step. Oh what a lovely cleaning wand you have Harminee. This room is much fresher and tidier now. Sorry, but mine are moulting quite a bit at the moment, so no doubt we will be leaving some more hair again. Anyone for some Gloria Jeans coffee, I will pop out now with orders, if someone can mind my dogs. Don't mind Jag, he snores very loud. Might grab some Subway macadamia cookies whil I am at it.... don't worry, I will bring plenty back. When I get back with coffees, I might start some karaoke or something. I am getting a bit tired of cards and backgammon. I am sure there will be some more good news on Jed soon. -
I know Greg also always takes Clyde's Pedigree with him when he enters Rottweiler specialty obedience, just incase he comes across a judge that does not know about the long haired Rottis. Lovely dog, lovely owner.

Good question Sheridan. I don't actually know the correct response to this, but I am going to be brave and have a go at guessing... my gut feeling goes something like this... when the Breed Standard was first blue printed for this breed it would have been based upon what the breed what bred to do, which was pulling carts for butchers and droving cattle, (the types we see more today are based more on the cartin type, a more robust dog. The herding/droving variety were more lean, small and Kelpie like in type). For both of these tasks it was decided that the tail should be docked for hygiene issues and I would also think that a long coat would have caused problems in a hygiene area also. So, the long tail and long hair would have in fact made a difference in the ability to do their job in the most efficient and clean way possible. I know that the tail was an issue with cow poo and rotting/flies etc. More than happy to be corrected.

How To Tidy Up The Endless Supply Of Doggy Stuff ...

You have turned your bed into a giant firestarter....thats REALY scary...can you put your bank of chargers in the garage or something. Its just that if the plugs give up and set of a spark (Ive seen it happen) especially being overloaded - and your not home - or are - either way....god knows we all know how devastating a house fire can be with our own poor Jed's tragic current situation. Please please please be safe and do something right now about this......... In fact Ive done the same myself but now Im a bit more diligent in turning things off. Yes, just writing about it earlier made me rethink my foolishness and I have already done something about. Thank you for caring. In my defense (not required I know), but just felt I should explain that my bed sits nearly 3 feet up off the ground, so it is not as close as you may have been imagining. No excuse I know. I am more worried about all the radiation than a spark. -
Yes, long haired Rottweilers turn up in litters from time to time. This coat is a disqualifying fault, but obviously cosmetic only and does take anything away from making an absolutely awesome pet or working dog. I believe I possibly know the dog you are referring to. I think by memory the owner's name is Greg, and he is a lovely guy. The dog, can't remember his name now, but he is a Blackombe dog, and he is doing Utility. Does that sound like him? I have seen a few others over the years, but it is not an overly common occurence.

How To Tidy Up The Endless Supply Of Doggy Stuff ...
Starkehre replied to Tilly's topic in General Dog Discussion
The pantry has a dog section (it is a fairly big walk in one) with sealed bins for dry and shelves for additives The laundry cupboard is almostly completely dog stuff except the iron and board. so medications and bulk treats go in there. The dog bowls live in the laundry trough This is the one I am ever so proud of.... on the whole of one side of the hutch in the office (the side closest to the garage door) I attached super double heavy duty hooks from Bunnings x 6. On those I hang leads, collars, training devices etc and at the bottom is a big bag with odds and sods that will not hang... poo bags, TTouch pads etc. But it is so out of control. I have never seen so many leads and collars, and we only have 2 dogs, plus I trim it down every now and then. It looks like a pet shop. In the garage in an old wardrobe that is completely storage for dog stuff. Dog coats, replacement hammock bed covers, outdoors type medications (whatever that means) like ear cleaners, stop chew sprays and also all the heavy duty concrete cleaners. A few outdoors toys like chuck its and ointments that don't make it to the laundry cupboard because they are not used often enough or are so gooey they are used outside only. Under the stairs room is nearly all taken up with trialling and showing equipment, indoor toys, spare indoor beds and spare crates. The float has storage that is permanently full of any equipment needed with the dogs away from home. Out in the garage is the big new freezer that is entirely for storing dog meat and bones. Home grooming kit is a tool box which sits inside the back door, not so proud of that one, but I use it practically on a daily basis, so bad luck Shampoo, conditioner and other bathing liquids all sit in a bucket inside the hydro Dremel lives under my bed with it's charger. I have about 6 chargers under there all going at once permanently. I am sure that is not good Anyway, I am probably not much help with your dilemma, but the wardrobe in the garage and the hooks on the side of the hutch are pretty cool for us. Almost forgot, the closet has 2 shelves completely dedicated to dod towels. Until recently this was 4 shelves, but I gave the rest away. I just cannot use that many towels for the dogs, plus I now use micro fibre cloths to dry the dogs with. Take up heaps less space, so my towels are almos obsolete, except for when I have puppies. -
Wazzat, I do hope Angel is OK. I understand where you are coming from. Gorgeous photo of her reading the paper.

Dippa, you have done well, and obviously plan to continue to put in the required work to ensure it all goes well. good on you. I do hope that your post shows others thinking of doing it that getting 2, similar age, same time is extra work if done properly, can be done but takes a lot of planning, extra time and effort. If you don't mind, may I add a suggestion to your regime (and pardon me if you already do this), but as well as taking the dogs walking separately, it is every bit as important to practise leaving one dog at home alone whilst the other goes out walking. Have a great weekend.

Women Injured And Animals Killed In Overnight Fires (caboolture Qld)
Starkehre replied to Boronia's topic in In The News
Just got up for a quick check on Jed. All pretty quiet in the waiting room at this hr. At least there is enough room to fit the Rottis in for a quick snuggle on the sofa. ...oh, I see what you mean by old old old magazines here. Jed, it will be light in another couple of hrs again, another day dawning. Soon enough you will get to experience daylight, when you are ready to wake up. Take as long as you need. Love to you and your family Jed. -

Well, I've brought my own collapsible chair with me, cause I see this waiting room is getting very full. But what is really warming is the smiles that everyone is managing to muster now. We all know it is not easy to smile under the circumstances, but with all this support and warm fuzzy feelings, it is a time for healing and smiles are good for healing. I love canasta, where was that pack? I'll deal if ya like.... cranes neck around to check if doctor is coming yet..... any news on Jed yet doc? -
The only difference between a pet food in a tin (wet version) and the exact same equivalent brand and type of food in the dry version is approx 60% water. The tin version is 80% water and the dry version is approx 20% water. So, if that was your analysis, you would summize that comparing the 2, why would you spend the extra money on the water and the tin, and also have to deal with the mess of wet food, discarding of the tin and extra expense of the tin food. So, you canot really say on the whole that tin food is bad, because it depends entirely on what brand and type of food it is, except no matter what the brand, it has a lot more water in it than the same food in the dry form. But, this is not really your comparison as what you are asking about is the quality of My Dog itself, and it is a wet food in a tin. So, firstly what you have is a lot of water. You miss out on the benefit of the crunch and chewing action that dogs gain from eating dry food with some added teeth benefits. But more importantly, My Dog is particularly high in sodium, boosters, flavour enhancers. My Dog makes no secret that they cater for fussy eaters. Most dogs do love My dog, and that is because it is the mcDonalds of dog food. The sodium levels in this food is very unhealthy and I would not be feeding it. I would feel like I was feeding my dog chicken stock... water and salt. ...snap Perse

The stress for the pup and all the mucking around of organisation of a freight company for a 40 minute drive.... craziness. I love driving and would have delivered the pup also if the owners were not collecting it for some reason. Would give me an opportunity to see the pup's new home.
-
Driver would have been sent away with a piece of my mind, and I would have been straight on the phone to management of the freight company. No way would I have allowed or suggested the pup travel loosely on a seat of a van/truck. It is unlikely I would use that mob again and I would be letting others know. But that's just me. Sorry, but I find it difficult to comprehend how some one feels justified in complaining when they don't seem to be any better. Sorry if that comes across a bit harsh. How can you expect others to operate at a high level of ethics if you are not prepared to hold yourself to at least an equal standard of ethics. Nickojoy, it must be very frustrating for you having a friend like that.

Does Desexing Really Make A Difference
Starkehre replied to Lucy's mama's topic in General Dog Discussion
Whilst your pup is being rewarded when he intimidates your children and possibly you also, by getting away with it, this behaviour will become permanently instilled and entrenched and will escalate. The dog is not a bad dog. the dog needs to be shown that this behaviour is not acceptable. And if you do not know how to do this, get professional assistance. Though you are doing a lot of the very basic steps in showing your dog who is pack leader, he is probably just going through the motions as he thinks it is a bit of a joke, it sounds to me as though he thinks the kids are way below him in the pack and he wishes it to stay that way. This is where you will have to step in, as like you say, the kids are not at the point where they will be emotionally or physically powerful enough to assert themselves over your boy. It is up to you to ensure your dog knows the kids are above him in pack status. Agree with pers, get help, get it now or you will all be paying the price. 8 months is way too long for this behaviour to be going on and getting worse. -
Does Desexing Really Make A Difference
Starkehre replied to Lucy's mama's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lucy's mama, I doubt desexing Banjo will alter the issues you are having even minorly. I doubt at this age you would even see a difference in his energy levels from desexing now. These are not testosterone issues, but cheeky adolescence, testing the waters and pushing the boundaries. Most young dogs would probably be trying on all the same stuff. It is a training issue, not testosterone. Desexing can alter behaviours, but only when these behaviours are almost solely driven by testosterone, ie challening other dogs and wishing to mate bitches etc. Yes, Banjo is supposed to be a family dog, and he is. And he will be a great family dog, but much work and patience needs to be put into all puppies, particularly when children are involved. Best of luck with him. Personally I would wait to desex, but that is just my opinion. -
Perthgirl, may I suggest, that in an email, if you really need to know the price up front, perhaps you include something along the lines of .... "I understand that many breeders are adverse to potential puppy people inquiring about price up front, and I appreciate this. And although the price of the puppy is not the deciding factor for me, I do have a budget for the purchase price of this pup. Naturally I also plan to budget for upkeep and unforeseen circumstances also, and there is not an issue with funds for this. but I would like to know a ball park figure please, as the last thing I want to do is waste both of our time if this pup is outside my price budget. I hope you understand." And if you popped something like this towards the end of your email rather than the begining. I know we are all different, but I would be more than happy to respond kindly and honestly to something like this if I were advertising a litter of puppies.

I never saw this thread the first time around. I am glad Steve bumped this with Chi's update and pics. I miss Jed's stories. She tells them so well. She paints a beautiful, comical and close bond picture in this one. Come back soon Jed. Chi Chi will be missing you as well as us.

Happy Birthday Message To A Wonderful Woman
Starkehre replied to ~Anne~'s topic in General Dog Discussion
Happy Birthday for tomorrow Julie ;) -
Hi, we have a Crewman Storm (S). We purchased it new 2005. V6. Never again. Absolute **** box. If we had our time again, and we had to have the same car, we would have bought the 8. Better fuel economy and goes better. This thing has no guts. They are just way too heavy for the V6. We had a canopy put on the back. It has such poor visibilty for reversing etc, and we have had leaking issues with the canopy. We think the dif has gone in it now and there is some sort of weird electrical fault that always plagues the locking and alarm, but none of the specialists can find it. There is no leg room in the back. The car in our opinion is a big joke and we seriously wish we never bought it. Whenever we go anywhere, we take my old BA Falcon wagon and love it. Better fuel economy, goes faster and harder and quicker pick up. If it was me and your 2 options were it, I would go the Hilux.
