  1. tollersowned, when are these shows please? This is very exciting news, much closer. :D
  2. If you don't mind the dog eating them dead instead of alive, then put the food in the freezer for a short time and that will kill them. As long as the ants have not been eating poising, they will not harm the dog if the dog eats them, dead or alive.
  3. OVCC decided it was important to offer and we found a way to cover the costs. As for the costs of the sashes, we had good sashes and they were close to $10 a sash, then there was the prize as well. Just wanted to point out that clubs need to factor in the other entries they get because they offer the neuter class. I have one neuter who is 8 1/2 and has 11 titles to her name inc Dual CH - she is being exhibited in neuter just to give her an outing and keep her busy - not necessarily for the title though she has 25 points, 2 NBIG & 1 NBIS so far . But my point was that I entered Ovens Valley because it meant I could take her and I had 4 other entered of my own, another 2 that I exhibit and another 2 entered because I could help their owner. So because of 1 Neuter entry you gained 8 other entries each day you might not have had as we had two shows here within 20 minutes drive that I drove past . . . I think that they more than covered the cost of the neuter sash. And I will do it again - so the clubs not offering this class need to reconsider this maybe. Sort of similar to you Bisart Dobes, I took along my Puppy to show because i was already going along to OV to show my older girl in the neuter class. So, the club received 2 entries from me instead of one, and if they had not been holding the neuter class, I would have shown locally that weekend. I really enjoyed the opportunity to give my old girl (whom was neutered for health reasons) a lovely day out and run around the ring, even though I should have put in some practice on her as she was a bit rusty I plan to enter OV again next year , hopefully both days next time.
  4. I had a great time yesterday. Sway and Anne, it was lovely to finally meet you both in person.
  5. come see me at the secretarys office but tell me who are Will do Anne
  6. Anne, sorry to hear about your dog cutting it's webbing, and don't they bleed I would love to meet your Hounds tomorrow Anne. I am a massive GH fan and have owned, rescued and fostered a few over the years, but have never had the privilege of meeting a conformation bred Hound in person. Hopefully I will see you there. Sway, I had already decided I would love a couple of dental scalers when checking out your website the other day, so I will purchase some from you tomorrow if possible. I know what you look like so I will have to find you when neither of us are too busy. Well, I had quick 2 hrs kip, and will go back for some more shortly. It is going to be a very weird sleeping night for me
  7. How much are we spoilt with such an awesome show sec. ???!!! Up dated weather reports, maps of the grounds including amenities.... my oh my, others will have a lot to live up to. See you all tomorrow morning, can't wait. I will have to go to bed shortly as I have to get up at 1am Bummer, will miss my team playing tonight. The efforts I will go to to finally get to one of these neuter class shows. Thanks Anne for all your hard work and organisation. I hope to purchase some of those raffle tickets Sway
  8. Big congrats TN.... well done Jedi :D :D ;)
  9. I hope you also see improvements with those allergies too se. Like I mentioned in the other thread, my friend has had amazing positive results in this regard.
  10. Doesn't look like any hot spot I have ever seen, and I have had my fair share. Having said that, such a close up shot could be deceiving. Also legs are not a common place to have hot spots. Hope he is OK and it turns out to be nothing serious
  11. I am sure someone will have some younger cuter pics but this is Malley at 4 months old. Leanne Thanks Leanne. Malley is just stunning. ...thinks I might have to get into Bullies again later in life. I have not owned one for many years now. Just love 'em.
  12. I think all puppies are beautiful.... but the ones that make me go all crazy and clucky the most are Frenchies and Bull Terriers.... but I have no cute photos of either. .... we have seen some gorgeous Frenchies here, thank you, but has anyone got any great Bully puppy pics please
  13. I am so excited to be doing our first neuter class soon. My girl will be so happy to be in the ring again. I just know she will feel so special. I will be fighting back the tears of joy to see her so happy. She nearly died 3 years ago and we are lucky she is so well and happy now. So, if anyone sees this crazy lady running an older Rotti bitch in a neuter class soon, with tears rolling down her face, now you know why
  14. I have a good friend that has a young boy that until fairly recently had nasty allergies. She swapped her dry food over 2 Black Hawk Holistic and he started to improve within the first few days of the diet change, although the allergies manifested themselves more in the form of contact allergies as opposed to diet related allergies. He was previously on Artemis by memory, but he also enjoys a lot of raw and barf style feeding. The only difference to his diet was the dry. We think it may be the emu oil in the Black Hawk that is helping or even perhaps the elimination of corn/maize, wheat and soy. This was a few months ago. This pup was on antihistamine tablets sometimes twice per day previously. Whatever the reason for the improvement, this friend of mine is sticking with BHH and she is happy to do so as her dogs is so much happier. I am very lucky, I have never had any dogs with allergy issues. Added, yes I have recently started supplying BHH and feeding it to my own dogs, but one of the reasons I now do so is because of this pups' results, not the other way around.
  15. pg, I am sorry you are having some difficulty making a good contact with breeder. Where are you sourcing these breeders from? I am wondering if they are perhaps being a little precious about the breed name you are giving your prospective puppy? Maybe they are of the belief that if you were a serious contender for a pup you would know that the name of your chosen breed is an Australian Cattle Dog. Not sure, just trying to assist in advising as to why breeders may not be responding to you. Also, how do you know that some of the puppies from the same litter of those puppies that you now see on a particular website have not gone to homes with people that did go on their waiting list and left their deposit? If you chose not to go down that path you can hardly expect them to have contacted you. A waiting list does not necessarily mean that all the pups are spoken for prior to the litter whelping. The request for a prospective puppy person to leave a deposit and go on a list is in efforts of the breeder trying to sort of which inquiries are legitimate and which ones are not. If you did not respond to that email or chose to not proceed, then naturally you would have been seen to not be interested anymore, which wouuld be a fair assumption I would think. I am not saying you should have proceeded with that breeder. That is only for you to decide. I tend to agree with Greytmate, if you outlay in your letter a little more information about what you can offer in the way of a fantastic home, perhaps some breeders may be more forthcoming with responses. Personally I do find it sad that not all puppy queries are responded to, but I guess all you can do is work on your side which is your initial approach, and hopefully you might get a better result. But please do not give up. Purchasing from a BYB is not the answer. I understand your frustration, but in the long run, I feel confident that you will be happier when you find the right breeder of your new puppy via a more reputable and ethical source. There have been serveral threads on similar stories to yours of recent times. Perhaps do a search and see what others suggest you include in your initial contact email. Good luck with your searching.
  16. Sorry to hear what happened however no one is making you give your dog up, you are deciding to do that yourself. You may think that's rude, however I've been in the situation of stray dogs attacking my dog but he still lives me... Your dog isn't behaving at home because A) you haven't trained the dog to do so B) you're not giving the dog enough mental stimulation coupled with the right amout of physical stimulation suitable for a puppy/young adult. I hope that you have reported each instance of attacks with your local Council. I reccomend you work with a Behaviourist and if you do n't have the time/money/motivation then probably best to contact a working dog rescue to see if they can assist you. I am sorry loveleroy, but I have to agree with MEH. There is absolutely no excuse for irresponsible owners allowing their dogs to roam off leash around the street terrorising other citizens and their on leash dogs. I am sorry this has happened to you. Sadly this has happened to me also, and probably the majority of DOLers. In fact these sorts of incidents occur on a daily basis. Added to MEH's reasons for your dog not behaving at home is C) you do not seem to have researched your chosen breed of dog thoroughly prior to purchasing it, in regards to it being suitable for your household, experience and time availability. D) you did not plan ahead when purchasing a dog realising you had or would have a young family that required much of your time, allowing little remaining for adequate dog training. This young dog is a product of it's near 12 months of upbringing in your home and is your responsibility. If you choose to rehome, then that is your choice, and it may well be the best thing for this dog now, I don't know. But please do not blame others for your predicament. I am sad for your dog and hope that he gets the boundaries, fulfilment and stimulation he requires to develop into a well rounded adult member of the community.
  17. What a hoot ... sort of reminds me of the time at an agilty trial where my friend and I were in neighbouring rings at the same time, we also trained together. We didn't realise we were running at the same time, until my Rotti heard her calling her Collie Rough, and then my girl immediately left our ring and joined them in their ring... and completed the rest of their run with them. We both swear the dogs went through the tyre at the same time, but have no idea how they fit. It was incredible to watch, even though it was over in a few seconds. Neither my friend or I realised what was going on until it was over. Of course all the by standers were thinking the Rotti was attacking the Collie Rough but they were mates having a wow of a time. Needless to say, we girls made a plan that if ever we ran in adjacent rings in the future, we would ask to wait until the other was finished. If I remember correctly, we may have done them out of a Masters pass that day.
  18. If the sound is coming from a distance away, it is even likely that it is pets from different households responding to sirens. Perhaps you may not have heard the sirens but the dogs may have. This occurs from time to time in most neighbourhoods including ours, and the barking/howling can stop suddenly. Some dogs react to sirens and other dogs howling, others do not.
  19. Thanks!! I am glad this was brought up, as I was wondering the same thing, but just figured i would work it out on the day. Thanks guys Yeah, just remember you're always last and you'll be right! Thanks TNik. I will remember that now :D I am so looking forward to my first neuter class. It will be a very emotional time for me. I had to desex my beloved Dyz when she got IMT 3 years ago, in case the hormone surge brought it back on again. And even though it was not even anything that I remotely considered a big deal at the time, as we were just so lucky to have her pull through her illness, now that she is fit and well again and really enjoying getting back into competing, I know how much she will enjoy getting back into the ring. My Dyz is but a shadow of her former self with age against her now and such an horrific past illness, but we don't care about that. She is our special girl and allowing her the opportunity to strut her stuff again in the all breeds ring will put a smile on her face. That is what matters to me :p
  20. Thanks!! I am glad this was brought up, as I was wondering the same thing, but just figured i would work it out on the day. Thanks guys
  21. Just wondering what has become of this poor puppy that has been kicked as a form of training and then pooed green? I hope this puppy is OK and I hope OW has sought some professional assistance in training methods.
  22. Hey Rellie, I hope it is not too hot under their feet.
  23. I use different treats for different situations/dogs, depending on what I am aiming to achieve, which discipline I am working on at that time, the amount or cardio and movement involved from the dog, how much space I have to store them on my person, what I am wearing, the valued I require, if I can stomach storing it in my mouth , spitability, tossability, and the weather. So, depending on the above it will usually be one or a combination of the following: prepackaged semi moist treats (don't use them often as they are lower value than most other treats, but they are quick and easy) cubed mild tasty cheese (I find the Devondale does not break up) boiled and cubed beef boiled and cubed chicken cubed devon sliced frankfurts sliced twiggies or cabana dried liver liver bread (if someone nice has given me some as I still has not got around to making a batch myself ) A tip when boiling your own meat for training treats/bait is once cooked, put straight into a collendar for straining and drying, then still in the collendar onto a saucer and into the fridge as soon as practical. I do not seal them into a container prior to cutting. I leave the cooked meat in the fridge this way for at least a few hrs, so it is really cold and starting to dry out a bit, then I cube it up to the desired size and store in my small containers. I still do not put the lids on for a couple of days in the fridge, otherwise they get too moist and stain your pocket and they go off sooner also. If I am still using them over 3 days later, they are usually pretty dry by then, so I pop a lid on them and I can usually get around 4-6 days out of a batch once cooked. I don't usually cook enough that it will last me that long anyway. I do boil treat meat with a reasonable amount of salt added to the water. This assists with palatability and storage. My dogs do not get enough treats for the salt content to be of any concern.
  24. I am only going for the Friday Flaves, but will see you there. Fame can finally get to meet Doody. Should be fun, I am also looking forward to it.
  25. Monash does them and I understand that the conception rates are the same as surgical if not better. I hope never to have to do another surgical AI ever. Thanks Rebanne
