Hi Rebanne. We have one of our interstate specialties on that weekend, so more than likely will be unable to attend Ovens Valley Valley next year, but K9+ Soft Dog Crates will be more than happy to offer sponsorship for the 2 days Group 6 Neuter Class sashes again. Just forward me the details and I will fix it up.

Immune Mediated Thrombocytopenia
Starkehre replied to OzDallyGirl's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi ODG, I am so sorry to hear your young girl has been diagnosed with IMT. I have experienced this horribly disease with 2 separate dogs, both Rottweilers, both adult bitches. One sadly did not survive, but my second case did, and she is still alive now. These were only 2 years apart. As far as I am aware I do not know of anyone else unlucky enough to have had 2 dogs with IMT. Sadly, it is not a rare disease though. There have been a few threads on IMT, IMHA and other Immune mediated dieases and there are a few of us DOLers that have and have had dogs with this illness. Sadly some of them do not make it. I wish you every success. It is very much an emotional roller coaster and the vet is right, at this stage there is no way of knowing the outcome. Please PM me if you would like my phone number so I can offer some friendly support. -
Hi guys, I should have thought to mention this earlier, but if anyone needs any Black Hawk Holistic Adult, Puppy or Feline, I will be at Hastings Obedience Trial tomorrow Sat 25th and also at Broadmeadows Obedience Trial Sunday 26th. We will be carrying orders only as we will be limited with space. So, if you require food please PM me tonight or tomorrow morning before 6am for Hastings and PM by 9pm Sat evening for Broadmeadows orders. Alternatively send me an email [email protected] Meg

Feed less, exercise more. Easy. And be 100% honest with yourself about the overall daily intake you are feeding.

+ 1 Dogs are scavengers by nature. I would be worried if my dogs were not hungry all the time. I do not like to see dogs fed until they are full. Too many owners worry about their dogs being hungry and I believe this is why so many dogs are over weight. As long as the dog is healthy and getting only what it needs regarding food in take then stop worrying IMO.

I too have a dog poo eater. She likes to get hers piping hot straight from the factory Of course we do not allow this if we catch her, but we see her lerking around others' bottoms, waiting.... and sure enough, we have discovered this is what she is waiting for. I know my dogs are well fed and worm free, so other than it being a habit I would prefer she did not have, it does not bother me overly. It does not make up a large portion of her daily diet and I do not believe she does it every day. Mind you, when she puckers up for a kiss and snuggles up for a cuddle of an evening, I can certainly tell if she has been savouring a few doggie nuggets

You will need to fill in a award form, stating all passing quals and affiliates etc and all this info is on the pass cards that he will have kept, include the fee (by memory approx $20) and the dog's Registration and post it all off to dogs Vic. All info and form are on dogs vic website and able to be printed off. They will post you the new Reg Cert which will include the gained title and also a title certificate. They will also post off another title certificate to the breeder as long as you include those details on the form in the section provided, if applicable to you. Lovely thought collating it all and making lovely picture.

Although the Rottweiler is classified with the ANKC as a utility breed, they are a working breed. Originally Rottweilers were used for droving cattle and required docked tails so as they would no be dragging around cow dung. Also, one of their early uses as a breed was to draw butchers' carts. Once again hygeine was the reason for docking for this work. The Breed Standards were written when breeds were performing what they were bred for. And these Breeds Standards, for the most part, carry on to today, as PF said. And though in many cases, a lot of breeds are not used for their original purpose these days, the rest of the anatomy of the dog has been bred to incorporate this docked tail. Over many many generations the dog has become balanced with this docking. So breeders were not necessarily docking just for looks. Sure, many people believe their breed looked better being docked (I choose not to comment here), but there is more to it than looks alone. Another reason for continuing docking into modern day in some of the dogs with heavy thick set tails is for the dog's health. It is not uncommon for dogs to break their tails in simple play etc in the yard, which is extremely painful for the dog, and could result in an amputation anyway.

Lilli, try Just For Men. It is a dying shampoo. Works well for Black and washes/wears out after several days. Easy to use and will not come off on your hands etc. Works super well on light colors as intended for coloring grey hairs mostly. Works great on dog coats.

Vomitting raw meat is also often caused because people feed it directly from the fridge. It is common for dogs and cats to vomit cold meat. Allow it to become room temp or even zap it in the mic for a few seconds on a low setting to remove the chill. Just a suggestion.

Awesome Sway, thanks for letting us know... and the Sat is a twilight too. Love the twilights. Nice atmosphere. We will definitely be there. Well done to Southern Cross KC. Good job!!!!

What Is Your Defintion Of Crate Trained?
Starkehre replied to aussielover's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
For me, a dog is crate trained when it will go to it's crate either of it's own accord or by command, and once in there will accept being shut in. Once enclosed inside the crate it is comfortable and confident in it's own company and being inside the crate and respectful of the confinement and boundaries. It will not foul the crate unless the owner is neglectful of the dog's need to toilet and it will not attempt to escape from the crate. It will not cry for attention or otherwise. I would be comfortable to walk away from the crate in any environment and know the dog is at ease. It may or may not like or love the crate, that is irrelevant to me, so long as the dog is calm and at ease. All my dogs are comfortable and appear quite happy when crated. I think this usually comes over time, but some dogs do fall in love with their crates immediately. IMO a dog is not crate trained if you can only use a certain type of crate to contain it in or it will escape and/or damage the crate or itself. So, being crate trained is more about the dog's calmness, acceptance and confidence rather than liking or loving it for me. -
Hi Jules, I have had one dog that did a similar thing for a while. I removed all bedding and it stopped immediately. Comfy? No! But not wet Then after a couple of weeks, I intropduced bedding again and it was all good, no more weeing. I think if there is nothing to soak up the urine as such, perhaps she might be less likely to wish to lay in it. Possibly worth a shot anyway? Good luck with it.

You are definitely not alone. A lot of people don't like to admit if they do not bond or perhaps have favourites when multiple dogs are owned. Out of the 3 I currently have now - One took me 3 years to bond with and now she is my heart dog. Another I bonded with within weeks, but I have now lost that bond with him, but that is OK cause OH has taken over with him and they are thick as thieves. And the other I bonded with instantly and I know when my older one is gone she will take over as my heart dog. A previous dog I owned, whom passed away last year, I never bonded with. She was an awesome dog and I loved her, but I was just really in love with her. I have decided I will not do this ever again. If I find myself in that position later down the track with a new dog, I will not try force or fabricate the bond. If it is not there I will rehome. For me, I enjoy my dogs more if I am super passionate about them and adore them to bits. There is no shame in rehoming your pup if that is what you decide to do. Sounds like it may be a combination of not being the right time for you emotionally and perhaps also that you and this pup just do not click. What I find as one of those strange things about human nature is that if you make the decision to rehome, you actually may find yourself suddenly form the bond you dreamed of having. Once it appears to yourself that you may be losing your lovely little man, your attitude towards him may change over night. We often feel a certain way because we feel locked in and trapped. Once you free yourself of what seems a "not so perfect" relationship, you may be surprised how the things can change for the better. I do hope it all turns out for you, whatever you decide.

Does anyone know if this show is holding Neuter classes please? Nothing showing on the schedule I have and can't reach the show Sec.

What the others have said and added.... what if you only discover that your girl does not compliment your boy as a breeding partner until she is 2? what will you do then? Breed them anyway? Or desex them both? Send her back? Send him back? Plenty of people breed with their own pets, and yes, this of what is known as Back Yard Breeding, and around DOL it is mostly frowned upon. Is it something I would do? No! Is it something the majority of DOLers would do? I am pretty confident in saying, No. Many of the most highly respected breeders do not own the studs they use. And they would not make a decision on what stud they would use over their bitch until the bitch reached breeding maturity, because how she finishes will determine what stud will suit her best. Bitches are the foundation of any good kennel, not stud dogs.

Sadly my numbers didn't arrive and I am in Melbourne Metro. Leaving tonight, so will have to get it sorted when I get there.

I am thinking (hoping) mine arrive tomorrow. I am fairly confident they will, and if not, like PF says, all sorted with texta and a card. All good.

Endurance Test 2011 Thread
Starkehre replied to TerraNik's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi Abbiestar, We have entered Jag in the Dalmatian test and are now 4 days into training schedule. Early days but all going beautifully so far I believe there are several Rottis doing this test, so it should be a nice social get together for all of us. Probably be more Rottis than Dallys... I think there was last year also. Hope everyone else is going well with training etc. Have fun. -
