Whether the dog has actually been trained to guard the baby from the get go or the dog has done it instinctively and then been further encouraged to do so (which is still teaching the behaviour) is not entirely clear to me, but either way, I still say this is unacceptable. I am not even going to waste my time responding to HA's interpretation of Schutzhund.

I think it was fake too I diddnt even bother with the 2nd video, the growls sent shivers down my spines though... The second video put the first clip into context more so it was certainly worth watching. It's just a dog who's been trained to "guard" and growl when her guarded object is threatened. Zipping up my flame suit here- it's just a demonstration of a dog doing what she has been trained to do- growl in certain situations. It certainly looks stupid and dangerous but then.. I believe there are people on this forum who compete in schutzhund, no? Yes, that is exactly what it is, but the point is... what sane person would teach their dog to resource guard one member of the family from another member of the family?! They are showing their total disregard and disrespect for their dog and their child and flaunting their stupidity internationally. Anyone with an ounce of sense would not train this unless they were prepared to risk the consequences. And anyone willing to risk the consequences does not deserve to have children or dogs, IMO.

That lovely Foxhound lad is Aust. Ch. Mingus Hound Hennessy, owned by Nazrelle on this forum. He is a lemon/badger pied, unusual color and absolutely gorgeous. I love hennessy. Have a real soft spot for him. Wonderful, stunning dog.

It is imbeciles like this that make me so mad It takes so much constant hard work, passion and dedication to our breed, campaigning our dogs positively in the public eye, just to have their reputation tarnished by immature acts like this. Unfortunately this is only one example of such poor ownership. When will people learn?

I used to have a budget for the dogs... not anymore. I don't wanna know. I am too scared to start adding it up I stopped working to a budget with them around 6 years ago. It would be seriously high taking everything into account. Ridiculously high. But the dogs are our lives, they are what we do, so I think that is fair.

Can A Dog's Limb Fall Asleep?
Starkehre replied to stonecutter's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I certainly would not be giving my dog any pain killers and still allowing zoomies. This is when dogs that should be feeling pain to stop themselves from further injury do not, and end up doing further damage. Anti inflams is one thing, (though not a fan of those either, but for personal reasons), but masking pain when pain is a vital tool to indicate to a dog to take it easy is another. Vet may not have recommended crating her, but I would be or certainly dping every thing I can to keep quiet. Best wishes for a speedy and full recovery. I would be recommending Bowen, Myo, Chiro... not vet. But then I do not do vet for lameness. -
I picked up a young Boxer pup (around 7 months of age) from near Nepean Hwy a few years ago. I called the council, they took our details, details of the dog and collar/rego and asked me to hold it over the weekend, (this is what our council always does, we have picked up many dogs off the street). The pup did not appear in a good way, it kept falling asleep whilst standing an sitting, so I thought it either may have been hit, was in shock or an epilept, so took it straight of to the vet. There was only one of the local vets open at the time. They charged me normal rate to check the dog including running the scanner over it, only to find it was not chipped. By memory I think they charge me $90 because it was outside normal hrs. Luckily the council got back later that arvo with information on the owner, so I phoned them. We reunited the pup with owner once they returned from their weekend away. Owner did not reimburse me with vet cost, which I thought a little miserable, but I took the dog off my own bat, so that was my bad luck. I would never expect a vet to check an animal I picked up at no charge. They are running a business not a charity. Good deeds are not supposed to be rewarded. They are done out of ethics and good will. I also have never been offered or given a reward for any dogs I have picked up off the streets and reunited with their owners, including 2 Golden Retrievers, 2 Labrador Retrievers, a Irish Wolfhound and several SWFs. Nor would I accept a reward even if offered. I say to the owners that ensuring their dogs do not get out again is reward enough for me. We have picked up so many dogs off the roads, because I refuse to leave them wandering the streets. We have always found their owners either by way of their tags or the council has assisted us. Our council always request we hold the dogs and let us ring the owners if they have their number and we do not. I picked up 2 Staffords on Friday that were trotting down my street. I had to cancel my plans to get them off the street. They did have phone numbers on their collars. Owner's sister came over to collect them about an hr later. I would never assume a dog without a collar is a stray. My dogs do not wear collars in the yard. I do not believe my dogs would or could escape from here, but never say never.

Our dogs are not penned or kept in runs as such, they run together. However, we ensure that many daily activities, outings etc are done separately. We swap over insides and outsides intermittently. And they sleep separately. Sometimes one is crated at night in the bedroom, one on a dog bed and one in the dog room. We just break it up. We have no set routine. I also do not like my dogs to expect routine. I like them to be very adaptable, which they are. Yes, they spend time together, a lot of time, but not the majority of the time. As the dogs grow out of puppyhood and grow up being noticably more secure in their own company we loosen it up a bit. I will admit it is quite easy for us because we work from home and can shuffle things around all day if we want to. If you want dog independance in your dog I really think the most prudent time to solidify this type of dog neutralisation is from the earliest age. Once they have that confidence, it is unlikely you will lose it. That dependance upon one another is ingrained very early. It is not for everyone. From what I gather, it seems the majority of owners often get a dog for another dog's company, and they delight in them spending all their time together. and that is fine. Each to their own. It is just when times like OP is mentioning is when it becomes an issue. My dogs have a wow of a time together. They play, romp, cuddle and wrestle up and do all the gorgeous things we enjoy seeing our dogs do together, but because I give them the opportunity to spend enjoyable time away from each other also, and a lot of it, they are quite happy to not have each other around if tha is how I want it or for when I need it to be that way. Example, right now Jag is in the living room watching tele on his couch. Fame is doing zoomies in the backyard and Dyzney is lying on her bed which is under my bed (I have a very high bed) in the bedroom. Doors are not shut. I tell them to go there and they know to stay there, but it is a place where they enjoy being so I wouldn't have to tell them to stay there anyway. They are all very mellow and cruisy and just blend in with whatever is on the cards:)

poochiemama, though a sad subject, I do understand and appreciate you wondering about this. I think about things like this too, however (even though this really will probably not help you much at all with your current situation, it is food for thought for down the track) I plan for this prior to getting each dog. Firstly, I always space them out in age when and where possible. Secondly, the first thing I teach all my new puppies when they come home is to be confident and comfortable in their own company. I actively design my dog's lives so that they spend as much if not more time apart as they do together. I plan it carefully so as they never learn to become dependant on one another's company. Of course they spend a lot of time together and always get along very well, but it probably one of the greatest priorities to me that they will be hardly more than a little disappointed when one of the others passes. As well as considering losing a dog, it also makes general day to day life less frustrating for them and us when the dogs can be easily separated. Illness also comes to mind. There are many reason why separation can be necessary at some stage and this is why I plan for it from day one. There will always be heartbreak for us. I dread this immensely, I can hardly bear to think about it, but I know I will cope. But it is my responsibility to ensure the dogs can also cope. Hope you feel better soon. It is never too late to do some more separation, building it up over time.

ABC, there is a big show on at KCC Park with international judges, Lilydale Kennel Club. I am entered, but probably not going to compete, but I am popping down to catch up with friends and deliver some product. Power Blend is a 100% all natural supplement designed to boost immune system, increase stamina, build muscle, provide high cool energy and assist with color pigment. Also promotes supple tendons and ligaments, assists convalescing dogs and great for coats. Although Power Blend is in no way a conflict of interest as it is a supplement and not a whole food Super Premium food like Black Hawk Holistic, I do not wish to hijack the Black Hawk thread with another product, so will leave it at that, but if you want to know more, send me a PM.
-
Morn all, just advising that I will be doing some deliveries to KCC Park this Saturday 13th August, if anyone would like me to bring them some Black Hawk Holistic. I will have Power Blend available also. Please PM me with your orders.

We are very happy with our Advantage. Tows and travels like a dream. We have it extremely full and you barely notice it behind my old BA Falcon Wagon. Dogs are very happy in it. I have travelled in it, as I do with any trailer I would put my dogs in and find it quiet and stable. It is over 2 years old and still looks pretty much new, we do look after it though. Easy to keep clean inside the berths. It is custom built to suit our specs for berth sizes and storage. We love it and the dogs are always keen to get in.

Well done Leo and Angelsun. Lovely wins. My old Dyzney girl still has not gained a NIS, and to be honest I doubt she ever will. God bless her cotton socks, she is just holding together. But we were thrilled to pick up another NIG on Saturday and it means so much to me to see her so happy and having such a lovely time. What I thought was extremely clever of Dyz was that magically she didn't seem to get any mud on her belly. She had her soft fluffy nana belly, whereas Fame had mud all over hers... and this was just walking from the float to the ring. BB, mine were a bit precious too. Precious Rottis ... gotta love 'em. Did not like getting their paws muddy and wet

Well Thank You Very Much You Thieving ****
Starkehre replied to Andisa's topic in General Dog Discussion
Don't blame you for being upset Andisa. You have nothing to apologise for. Being stolen from is such a violation. I am sometimes embarrased to be involved in a hobby where there are people that conduct themselves this way... though I am sure (or at least would like to believe) that the majority of people are good. Theft and not picking up after your dog are 2 of my pet peeves at dog shows.... oh and tampering with other peoples' dog floats. -
Don't mean to frighten you, just make you aware that some of the side affects of vaccinates can take up to 3 months to manifest themselves, so it is not always something you can keep an eye on for a day or so. Immune mediated issues are some that come to mind. Not common, but not overly rare either. If you are vaccinating with the same vaccination is your pup was done with previously and you had no issues then, he would probably be fine again this time.

What Plans Do You Have In Place To Care For Your Animals
Starkehre replied to Tilly's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a laminated card in my wallet that explains who I am and that I have dogs at home that need taking care of immediately in the case of me being killed, seriously or fatally injured. Providing contact details, I explain whom to contact to take care of this should my husband also be involved in a serious or fatal accident. I have different plans in place for whether myself and my husband are seriously injured and require hospitalisation or if we are killed. This ranges from euthanasia through to rehoming or temporary homing. I also have discussed this with the homes involved. These are breeders of these animals. I tend to look at this card once a year and make any changes if things have changed in our lives or with the dogs. Depending on the dog's temperament I would euth once they got to a certain age if I became incapacitated or died. I do not my dogs to go to any of my family, other than my husband of course. They do not look after animals as I do. -
I appreciate everyone's input and dicussions. Unlike SND, I have no issue with anyone discussing any other gazebo mats or products in this thread, even though I am not the OP. I will also mention that I did not request Andisa to start this thread and had no knowledge of it until I saw it. I did not mind her doing it, but did not put her up to it. I am aso not suggesting that anyone else is doing this... just to clear up any possible other questions that might arise I absolutely agree with Paws4Effect1. There is plenty of room for us both and others even. Customers will buy what appeals to them. Everyone has different tastes, requirements and that is what makes the world go around. Regarding postage, K9+ Gazebo Mats can be purchased via my website (flat rate product price of $89.95 including Regular Postage to anywhere in Australia) or via my ebay store, which offers the Mat for $69.95and various different postal rates for various Aust Post postal zones, all displayed in the listing. With this style of marketing my customers can purchase with the method that works out most cheaply for them. Locals are better of going through my ebay store and customers that are further distanced from Vic may be better off buying via my website. Offers options to my customers. Locals are welcome to arrange pick up from us.

Thank you for your question SND. What I said was that my K9+ Gazebo Mats were made especially for my business, which is K9+, and they were.

OK I will believe the first one but is a whippet really called a whippy??? if you go into the All things Whippet thread you will see everybody seems to say Whippy I just refer to my 4 as "The Whips". I have this thing about just adding a y or ie to names, ie Ridgy, Pappy, Goldie, Staffy, Frenchie, Westie. LOL. Does my head in. So it's just "The Whips" at our house. :D Agreed. I don't tend to add "y" or "ie" onto breed names if I can help it. In fact it would be rare that I would refer to my own breed as a Rotti. I would usually say Rottweiler or Rott. Rotti sounds too generic to me.

Hi Shazzapug, Andisa does not have one yet :D Here is the link to the K9+ Gazebo Mat in my ebay store. Cheaper way to purchase if you are local or not too far away http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370523587198&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT And here is the link to my website, which will work out cheaper for those further away or maybe some people do not like ebay, offers something for everyone http://k9softdogcrates.com.au/index.php?p=products&sp=gazebo_mat

Hi guys, thank you, just spotted this thread.... ah you dag Andisa, I didn't need a thread of my own, my Gazebo Mats are running out the door, but thank you anyway. Reb and Megz, glad your mats arrived promptly Reb, what an awesome idea using the Liner for the pupplets. Certainly will stop any moisture getting onto the floors. I adore your baby GHs ... you know how I feel about GHs Andisa and Stolz, just yell out whenever you want a mat, still plenty available in all 3 colors. K9+ Gazebo Mats are my own brand, made specifically for K9+

What Did You Take Your Pup Home In?
Starkehre replied to Aztec Gold's topic in General Dog Discussion
Personally, I do not recommend the lap method. You will over heat your pup quickly and both become very uncomfortable. You pup will be around 6-7kg and will get heavy. The pup will not enjoy the trip no matter how it travel, so associating it with your lap is not a good thing. I also feel it is too much contact so early in the relationship. By the time you get home, the pup will already be quite needy and clingy towards you. Not a relationship I like to create from day one. Personally, I would recommend a sturdy cardboard box lined with paper. Stabilize it in the back seat or rear of the car. Keep it dark but ventilated. Ensure it is escape proof. This way, if the pup vomits or fouls the carton it is not done so in anything you then wish it to sleep in later. Nor will it be a big deal cleaning it. You just throw it out. I definitely would not use the dog's crate for the first trip home in, even if it did fit into the car. Very quick way to ensure your pup hates it's new crate. I like the pup to be left to sort it out for itself, with your voice being heard nearby for some comfort. Seems my thoughts are very different to everyone elses, so you just go with whatever you think will suit you best. -
Yes, it was a pity that Louises was an obsolete model as we do have replacement skins for our crates. What I always advise for repairs if a customer prefers to try this option rather than a replacement skin or in Louise's situation where there was no replacement (hers was a run out sale on an obsolete model crate) is to try marine / motor trimmers or caravan / horse rug repairers. Any of these can do the job. Most soft crate skin repairs can actually be done on a domestic machine and do not actually require an industrial machine, provided it was not on a section that has several layers of fabric. We have our embroiderers do any repairs we require. They are great. Louise, I hope you find someone to help. Otherwise, as I mentioned earlier, you can send it to me to have it done. I do not put any mark ups on work I have done for customers.
