  1. My suggestion would be to do that night empty by alarm clock, not by demand. You have trained puppy to make a fuss when he wants to leg out of the crate. At this age it is way too confusing to puppy that he can be demand let out at 1am, but not at 4 or 5am. I never demand empty, unless the dog is an adult. Set your alarm at 1,2 or 3am (half way between bed time and rise time, and be realistic with rise time, - puppies like to rise at 5-6am and I allow this as this is the best time of the day to train as they have haps of energy) and ensure you are dressed and ready to get to that crate quickly and quetly. Pick puppy up and carry outside. No big fuss, empty (if it takes all night), then put back in crate with quiet praise. Eventually over days/weeks, the night empty can be extended to meet the 5 or 6am rise time. That's how I do it anyway. Best of luck :) ... added, I always take bottles of wine and ear plugs to all neightbours prior to a new pup coming home and apologise up front. This way you are less inclined to fold when puppy cries. They always report that they never hear anything anyway, it just feels that way at 2am  Also expect little or no sleep for a week and this way you may be pleasantly surprised.
  2. Brilliant, was it easy to find? I find the VCA website quite hard to navigate. eta maybe I should make some copies and put in the return address envelopes of the people who obviously can't be bothered to do it correctly. Unfortunately, this still doesn't say about cutting the forms to the correct size! I was lucky, because at my first show the catalogue said "entry forms must be trimmed to correct size" and I texted a more experienced showie going "what do I have to do!??" well if I decide to do it again next year I will have that and more in the schedule: entry forms must be filled in correctly and trimmed to the correct size and maybe the link to the sample. Though the same ones will continue to do as they please. Wonder what they will do if clubs stop holding shows cause they can't find a person stupid enough to be the show secretary. You are an awesome show sec. Reb... what with your maps and other helpful info, all wonderful ideas While I am at it, if you see this, please do not worry about posting out my numbers, as you know I am not coming, so save the postage, all good :D Best of luck in Canberra :)
  3. I am so sorry Alibi. This must be such a difficult time for you When my Rotti was dreadfully ill, her weight loss was chronic and the specialist were advising there was not much hope left (she had IMT, then stomach ulcers). We were told we had to get whatever we could into her as she was also going to end up dying from malnutrition on top of what she was already battling. She had little or no appetite. And what she would eat, she would bring up. One day, we accidentally stumbled upon what eventually saved her life regarding food in take... steamed dim sims. They are so smelly. I had tried everything I could think of. She had been offered Nutrigel, Hills, cat food - wet and dry, cooked chicken fillets, sausages, steak, cheese you name it we tried it. A dog that you would normally have to watch your fingers when feeding, had pretty much given up and would not eat and was wasting away. She had lost a third of her body weight. Anyway, the day I walked in the door with steamed dimmies for myself, she pricked her ears, got up, came over, so I gave her a small piece. She loved it and ended up having two, which was a lot for her at the time. From that day forward, her appetite gradually picked up and she began holding down food. Now, I totally get that dimmies may have onions and other nasties in there an they are not something we would ordinarily feed, but they worked for me on a dog not wanting to eat, so may be worth a try. They are low in fat. I hope you are coping.
  4. Thank you guys Reb, I will still be putting in those entries for Ovens as promised, but will not be there. We will be at our NSW specialty.
  5. Dur a Brute is a Hagen line and is imported by Pet Pacific, they are the sole Australian distributor for all Hagen products. Any pet store that carry Pet Pacific lines can get them for you if they do not already stock them. Otherwise give them a call (head office in Penrith) and they will advise you of a store in your area. I used to work for Pet Pacific, that is how I know this :) It was quite a while ago, so if they are an obsolete line now, I am not aware of this.
  6. .... yes, all of the above, plus I look down and I am naked, always forget to dress in my nightmares  ... funny thing is no one seems to notice or care, except me
  7. Today at Gundagai, Dyzney (at almost 9 years of age) gained her final points towards her Neuter Champion Title and will now be known as – CH. and N.CH Eramoo Dazzling Dion CD ADX JD SPD HT PT HSAs ET And just to make it all the more special… as I am on whelping assistance call with a friend (whose bitch was looking like she might go early) I was not comfortable leaving last night. So at the last minute my husband said he would take Dyzney up to Gundagai, to show, all by himself. He has only once handled a dog in the ring as an emergency thing for someone else and is not comfortable with showing at all, so for him to agree to do this for me brought a tear to my eye. He is just the sweetest man and would do anything for me. He knew how much this title meant to me, so bless his cotton socks. After a quick crash handling course, ironing of some cute duds, he left home late last night and will be home later tonight. Thank you Mr. Dyzney
  8. Congratulations dyzney, you guys looked fantastic in the ring Thanks for the support on saturday night i really appriciate it And thanks for the complement on diesel and ronnie im so proud of them :D Thanks Rainy and you are most welcome, any time. Your dogs are a credit to you. I am glad you are proud.
  9. Was there other neuter Rotties there dyzney?? Yes BB, there were 2 other neuter Rottweilers there, both bitches. I think there was around 20 - 21 Neuters entered each day.
  10. Hope Rhemy is back in soon Bisart :) It won't take long to knock off those last points :) We had a fantastic weekend at Bermi, collecting another 24 points towards Dyzney's Neuter title. Just the 2 of us went away and we had a lovely time. We met Rainy, with Ronnie and Diesel... absolutely gorgeous dogs :) Dyzney won ONIG on Friday and Sat. She also took out ONIS on those 2 nights. That was very exciting for us, even though we were not in the ring until after midnight  The Akita got Group on the Sunday, and not sure what went up for ONIS. Dyz only needs 6 more points for title now, so we are getting pretty damned excited... can taste it now  Is anyone going to Gundagai? We are hoping to get there.
  11. Not far to go now BBJ... over the hump. Nice work. :)
  12. Well done :). BUT thats not a brag !!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on, give us his full name with titles and what he's achieved along the way - he deserves it :D . Awww thanks Kirk is now Neuter Champion Caslero The New Black ET WAC He earned his Endurance Title at 2yrs of age and his Working Aptitude Certificate (WAC) on his first attempt at the 13th Australian Dobermann Nationals in 2010. To pass the WAC a Dobermann must "demonstrate the characteristics required of a dog to be a stable companion and resolute protector." I believe Kirk is the first Dobermann to achieve the Neuter Champion title - hopefully Bisart's girl will be the next one :D Huge congratulations to Kirk and Caslero. Fantastic achievement. :)
  13. Yeah, Go Billie!!!! Massive congratulations to Zed n Q and Shelly Beggs and their gorgeous Billie.
  14. She is simply stunning Reb, and doing so well. You must be thrilled. I am so happy for you.
  15. I would drop a letter. I would explain whom I was, and in my opening comment, also apologise for not approaching them in person, but you were afraid of entering their yard because of their dog. I would be very nice in the letter and appeal to their sensibilities and safety for their dog as well as my own and my dog's safety. I would even go on to say that I am not one to put in formal complaints, but somebody else might do so, and I would loathe to see that happen.... ...but that's just me. :) Good luck with it.
  16. Very irritating actually. We live in the burbs in Western Sydney in a cul de sac --- one of the neighbours just lets a chook roam the street and I'm actually not exactly sure who it is. Archie's ears prick up like no-one's business when we go out for walks - he's chased it but reached it and chickened out (chickened out, geddit ? :D) and I doubt he'll ever go for it anyway ... but there's a staffy down the road that may feel differently one day. Anyway ... the chook created a little nest in the bushes outside the front of our house and laid. I have meant to pick them up a couple of times coz I've seen him sniffing in there, but they're really hard to get to. Tempted to ask whoever owns it to pick up after their chook but need to narrow that down first. Thanks to everyone for all the advice - he's lying down sleeping now, doesn't seem too worried but yes, we'll see what treats he leaves from the back end on his walk later ... Sounds like the egg would be safe from any human intervention then, all good. :)
  17. If it just a rotten egg, than there is unlikely to be any issues. The only concern I would have would be ... is it unusual to see an egg where it was? Why was it there? There is a chance someone may have injected something into it. But maybe you have chickens and the egg was on your own property. Just not sure of the source of the egg, that's all.
  18. We'll be there DeerGrif, and thank you for offering all those Neuter Classes. My entry is posted and we spoke on the phone a few days ago. Look forward to seeing you there :)
  19. Awesome, will do Rainy. Will PM you if we are going to make it, and we can exchange mobiles if you like. Last year we did obedience on all 3 days also, not this time though :)
  20. Rainy, we have entered Bega Valley. Dyz and I are planning this trip alone, a real adventure for us. We are going all this way just for the neuter classes. The only issue I have right now that may ruin our chances of getting there is a still need to buy a car (mine was totalled just over a week ago) and get it roadworth and registered in time. I have found one I like and hope to be purchasing it tomorrow morning. We are cutting it tight, but you never know. If we go and you would like some company or a friendly smile from a fellow competitor, just let me know and I will be more than happy to hook up with you. Be prepared for horrendously extreme weather conditions for this weekend as it usually provides same :D
  21. Huge congrats to LeoPuppy and Leo for their ONIS. ....and well done to Cranbourne, what a brilliant neuter entry.
  22. Oh, that's a shame Reb, but I understand perfectly. Please would you mind letting me know (when you know for sure) if you are not coming, so I know not to look for you for those photos. :) You have my numbers. We will be up around 5 and leaving around 6.30 tomorrow morning.
  23. Yes Dova, move over here. We loved having you at the clinic. Your dogs worked beautifully. It was great to meet you and I am so glad you had a terrific time. I am disappointed I missed out on working the cattle on day two, but I am sure there will be another time :D
