  1. So sorry to hear about Kibah, Kirislin. Crossingers the bleed will vanish soon and nothing more will come of it. But if there is an issue, I am confident you and Kibah will deal with it and cope very well. it is always such a shock initially.
  2. I wonder if one of the new puppy purchasers were ones that contacted me recently inquiring about a crate. They asked about appropriate crate size for an English Woof Hound Responding to these questions is always challenging, trying to be diplomatic and all :D
  3. We are very proud to have Seven qualify for Puppy and will be going along. Love your raffle donation Sway, awesome. Will make sure we purchase some tickets. I have never been to one of these events so am really looking forward to it
  4. Normal. I find this very keen behaviour peaks and then only last a couple of days in my bitches. My desexed male doesn't mind the attention, nor do the other bitches
  5. Hi Schnooze. Welcome. I, like some other started out in horses, breeding, starting and showing. I also had pedigreed cats and showed them. After being mildly involved in Bull Terriers and Dobermanns, I soon discovered my passion for Rottweilers around 13 years ago. My first Rotti, though a pedigreed entire bitch on terms, was not a show dog. I trained and trialled her in Agility and she became the first ADM JDM Rottweiler in the country. I spent many years being mentored by her breeder always with a yearning to breed, but never being in any hurry or certain that I would ever actually breed. I purchased my 2nd Rottweiler from the same breeder several years later and became involved in showing. Since then I have put 13 ANKC recognised titles on said bitch in 5 different disciplines (including Agility, Herding, ET, Obedience and Conformation) and she was leased back to her breeder for her first litter. My plan was to have her 2nd litter, but she contracted Immune Mediated Thrombocytopaenia (as did my first bitch) so I chose to desex and not breed with her. To date I have now had 5 pedigreed Rottis (4 of which I still have) and have been mentored by several long time breeders over a total period of around 15 years. I have been a registered breeder for around five years, but have still not have my first litter. I am always researching information about the breed looking to gain as much knowledge and experience as I possibly can. And though I now feel very close to finally feeling worthy of having a litter, I think there will always be some element of doubt in my mind. It still may never happen, but if this is because of my ethics, then I can live with that. It has taken me 5 dogs to finally obtain a specimen that I would even consider breeding with as my foundation bitch and it is still too early to confirm this with my latest bitch. All our dogs that do not make the cut for breeding (failed health testing, poor conformation or other) all stay with us and remain our beloved pets and working dogs. They all lead full lives and compete in dog sports. I have become a member of around 10 different breed, working and kennel clubs that I am involved with and I donate to as many club events as I can afford to do as my way of supporting clubs that support and promote my chosen breed. If I do finally get to breeding a litter, my gut feeling is that I may only ever have one or two, as time is getting on for me and we have limited space when I don't rehome. I am not against rehoming, I wish I could do it sometimes, it just isn't something that sits well with me personally.
  6. Yep, this is exactly what has happened. Don't feel bad. This is probably the most common mistake that dog owners make. Dogs are very much a creatures of habit, so of course he loves his family outings. In other words if Spud spent every single day of his life outside in the yard, he would possibly be uncomfortable going out in the car with the family. That said there will always be innate predispositions in some dogs to be more needy than others. Unfortunately we often don't know this until it is too late. There is nothing wrong with allowing Spud to do the stuff he enjoys. We all love to allow our dogs to enjoy life. It only becomes an issue when there are things that he so obviously really doesn't like and these things he should be fine with. It is not weird that he is relaxed in the yard when you guys are at home. His association with all things great is going out when the family goes out. He is quite happy being in the yard when you are at home, because you have unwittingly taught him to be. Sometimes we have to think OUTSIDE the box when doing things with our dogs, as everything we are doing is training them to be comfortable with something or uncomfortable with something depending on how rewarding, safe and comfortable the experience is. It is never too late to change things, just don't be in a hurry as all these new experiences are setting him up also. These must be good times he is separated, not screaming, panic moments. Plan ahead and good luck and ensure your training is always setting him and you guys up for a "win". Agility is a wonderful idea. Just balance his time with members of the family and being alone more evenly.
  7. This little dog spends so much outing time with his family that he protests when things are different. In other words your family has likely inadvertently trained him to be needy of constant comoany and attention. Some quality time alone will fix this, but training situations should be set up deliberately and built up slowly over a period of time, taking care to do this sensibly and safely. This little Spud has possibly not been taught to be comfortable and confident in his own company, which is the first lesson I teach all new puppies that are welcomed into our home. As long as his only objection at this stage is barking, then it should not be too hard to rectify, but if he is being destructive (surrounding or self) or other manic behaviours, this will become a real difficult issue to resolve. Best get onto it early before it escalates as this is a real possibility. Best of luck with it. :)
  8. The correct wording is Supreme Champion. The word "Australian" was taken out of all Australian conformation titles a while ago. So what was known as australian Champion is now just Champion. Obviously if you were only describing titles among international circles you would include the word Australian to distinguish between title gained in other countries, but ANKC have officially dropped it on certificates.
  9. Dead right Murve. The dog would not be allowed to compete in ANY ANKC EVENT. Confirmation, agility, Obedience, tracking, earthdog, dancing with dogs, herding, field trials, retrieving trials, endurance trials, weight pulls you name it their all included as ANKC events. Added, I believe this also means that the dog cannot be trained at any ANKC sanctioned ground or with any ANKC affiliated club. I believe the word "exhibited" in this context covers competing and training, not just exhibiting as we know it.
  10. I have one serious gulper here. She will swallow chicken wings whole, it bothers me a lot. I have seen wings come out the other end, all flesh gone, but bone still in zig zag shape. What we do with her is take all pressure off her at meal times. Separate her from all dogs and people. Either throw 1 bone or wing or whatever out to her and quickly retreat shutting the door, turn my back and leave so she can't see me even out of the corner of her eye. If she thinks there is another bone coming or other dogs around, she will gulp. If it is 100% safe area to eat slowly with no threat (in her mind) she will give it at least a couple of chomps. If I want her to have another, I will give it the same way after she is completely finished. There are some bones that I just don't trust her with, so I don't give them to her. Otherwise I might give it a quick smash with a malet if the bones with crush, not splinter.
  11. When our Dyzney was still recovering from IMT and I was forced into making a decision to desex or not (as she was due in season and the hormones may have brought the IMT on again) we had a specialist desex her, Pete Laverty. She had x rays done also as there was other issues we were investigating. This was 4 years ago and it cost us $2000. We were very happy with the job. That said, can your local vet do the xrays that the specialist wants? Are the xrays really that important... as in what will you if the results are ? or ? I would sit on doing them for a while I think. Personally I always run a mixture of entire and desexed dogs together and have no issues when bitches are in season. I never separate (unless I currently have an entire of each sex at the time). In my experience the smooth success of this is more about existing dynamics involving the owner as well as the dogs and also the amount of management the owner will and can instil, than about the dogs themselves. So in saying that if you think you can plan to set yourself and the dogs up for a win, I would hold off desexing and xrays for a while. I think you would be surprised at how little attention your boys pays towards your bitch and even if he does it will not be in the same strength as if he was entire, more of an annoying play type situation and may only last for a day or so. Personally I would not use drugs for this scenario. What's to say these drugs are any less destructive to her body than the GA? I hope you decide on an answer that you can feel comfortable with and good luck with it all. :)
  12. I can also recommend Michael from Zandona. He is very particular about his work and does a great job. He understands dog people and their requirements as he owns gun dogs himself.
  13. Lovely to hear Emma's update. She is enjoying terrifying you, cheeky girl. Great to see she still has so much spunk and attitude and is enjoying her food so much... like all good Rottweiler bitches do  Beautiful photo. She is such a love.
  14. Quite possibly, which makes it even worse, because good breders that are approached by the types of prospective puppy people that request this type of dog are inevitably turned away... so it is not saying much about these breeders. Surely this guy would feel his ego was being better stroked if he was on the end of a lead of a beautiful representative of his chosen breed, rather than a misplaced example. Try appealing to his materialistic side rather than his macho side. :D
  15. You might also add that all Rottweiler lines originated from German and that breeders saying using German lines breeds bigger dogs is crap. Even the best known biggest winning dogs in Germany are not big, they are within breed standard as posted a few posts ago. Dogs from this breeder would be laughed at by German Rottweiler wardens.
  16. The only people I ever hear sprouting such weights and rot about heads are BYBs. I have seen a few males of that weight and they are either incredibly oversized or over weight or both. Neither is a good thing and certainly nothing to brag about. Ask them if they want a Rottweiler that looks and behaves like a Rottweiler or just a big, badly bred dog that is going to be more likely to have health and temperament issues than one purchased from a reputable registered breeder? Personally I would highly recommend they steer clear of these "breeders"
  17. Congrats to Sway and Hudson. Awesome result.
  18. Agree with this. His stand will get stronger in time. Practise many times a day but only for a minute or less at a time. I ask for a stand at meal times. All my dogs are taught to sit, drop, stand, come and more from 8 weeks (or younger if I have access to them) and I never have any issue. You are doing an awesome job, just keep it up, keep it short and fun and it will come. :) Added... judges do not want to see robots as babies. As long as your puppy is confident and looks to be having fun in the ring, the odd sit and play is fine and perfectly acceptable and far better than a shy or apprehensive puppy. so remember to spend a lot of time on QUALITY socialisation as well. Good luck with him.
  19. I am thrilled with the set up. Worked well for NYs and I wasn't even in the front row. Am looking forward to a terrific weekend.
  20. Secret Thornton ... sorry, couldn't help myself. Puppies are beautiful. I am sure you have already picked all the obvious "secret" names I can think of.
  21. The eye set, distance, shape makes me think there might be a brachy breed somewhere in the mix. Those eyes just look out of place with a muzzle... though very cute of course. I see no rotti in there at all, but I guess you never know with these mixes. I am also with a hunting mix of possibly many multiples of breeds. Initially I thought Ridgie/Kelpie/Koolie maybe.
  22. I was told on Tuesday that all 3 days will be out the back on GSD area where the lights are, ring set up the same as a couple of weeks ago. Now, whether or not there have been alterations to this regarding weather, I don't know, but both clubs are trying to work in conjunction with one another so exhibitors won't have to move during the weekend.
