Good dog that one - his ' Yellow' sister aint so yellow ATM - she lervs the mud. -
Be warned that canine colur modes of inheritance do not necessarily follow Mendillian Laws of Inheritance. As far as non-standard colours are concerned, IMO it depends on how much respect do you have for the breed standard? If you want to call your dog 'Sable' but put it on limit register then that shouldnt be an issue but if you intent to breed from her you would be in breech of the Dogs NSW Code of Ethics I think. If your breed's experienced breeders of by-gone years considered only certain colour acceptable than ask why - is it because the non-standard colours are associated with poor or weaker conformation or a colour related health issue? Diluted colour are often discouraged because of their sensitivity to the sun and poor pigmentation eg pick noses and pads. Or was the design of the standard too narrow in the first place? Every 5 years ( I think) the breed clubs are asked to acknowledge the current standard or make arguement for additions or changes. I have no issues with any colour as long as the dogs are healthy and of a sound type and temperament. However each breed has their own health problems and some genetic health issues are linked with the colour of the dogs especially the dilute colours and solid white.

It doesnt happen as much now but there were a few of Yellow, Fawn & Tan & Blue ANKC Kelpies registered as solid Fawn or Blue or Red. They are not often seen in the ring but bred from and their progeny registered. Its not necessarily a bad practice its just that it makes it hard to know which lines to introduce to your lines or to avoid if the colours on the pedigrees are false. The Blues & Tans & Fawn & Tans can be registered on the limit register. Especially if it is a new person. Whilst for some it was good for creating colour in their lines it buggers up the solids introducing shading and can introduce mismarkings such as excessive white. More than a thumbprint of white on the chest would, IMO, be unacceptable in an ANKC bred Kelpie solid but that is just my opinion. Why do people do this sort of thing. Money generally. But hey the colour fad persists. I only hope the current breeders begin to prioritise the increasing number of health issues that are occuring in ANKC Kelpies rather that just prioritise the fad colours for the OS market or the show ring.

Sitting and watching what is happening is a trait of my dogs they are trying to process what is happening - they are rarely scared and they usually engage with the oddity they are watching if it is dafe otherwiose thay stay out of range. -
This will be of interest to all Kelpie owners or breeders. Many would know about the late Dr Wiltons research into Cerebellar Abiotrophy (CA) in Kelpies or better known as Ataxia. A number of people submitted blood for research 3+ years ago and for those samples to be used in current research a consent form needs to be submitted. Furthermore if you own an affected or own have a sibling or progeny of an affected sire or dam please consider submitting blood slamples. Affected samples are most sought after, with a full 3 or 5 generation pedigree and a signed consent form.( I bred ANKC Kelpies from 91 -2010 under the Mimbil prefix) This is cross posted from Facebook. I know, I think it's one of the silliest statements I've ever read. You better get a life jacket. My hubby was seriously impressed with 10,000 litre output - he didnt think it was humanly possible let alone canine possible ... he then asked if he could be put out for stud .... I suggested if someone would pay a stud fee I was happy with the idea - eh just joking :)

It is so very hard with the dogs that we love so much to know they are suffering and depending on how we manage the situation we can help or hinder the last few days. You sound like you love Tess very very much and it would be gut renching to know that you have an inevitable and difficult decission to make. My old Kelpie began to fade after a bad chest infection at 14, she developed dementia and became incontinent. All of which I could manage while she was eating and emiminating normally. But then with the dementia she became distressed and she would cry if I left the room cycling in distrss because she couldnt find where I went wether I went to the loo or into the kitchen and she couldnt find me even if I called. This was the time to have her PTS. Which broke my heart but i knew was the right thing to do. Considering your Tess's deteriorating quality of life remember that you love her and you would not want her to suffer any longer than neccessary. You are doing the right thing. As a survivor of Human Oestio Sarcoma in my leg - the treatment is horrible. Sarcoma in the throat/neck/ head area is extreemely difficult to treat and probably pointless in canines. Love her the best you can and treasure her memory when she has passed on the rainbow bridge.

Wow the boy is growing up - his sister has been on holiday down the coast with all the gang and discovered the surf. Not a bit concerned - such a water baby! I walking in upto my knee and called the big kids. Kura bolted into the surf and before I could catch her was flattend by a wave. I thought ah poor baby she wont like being in the surf now. How wrong was I whereever I went she went and it didnt matter how many times she was splatterd by a wave on the waters edge she kept coming and bouncing along the shoreline. She was most upset I had to drag her out so we could go home. She slept very well that day. :) -

Very civilised this morning yesterday was lovely too though I think it will heat up again next week. In the middle of winter I will be screaming for summer but right now - bring on the snow I am over summer. -
I once tried a sonic device that was supposed to inhibit barking in a boarding kennel. It had no effect. I have a friend with one and they found that the dogs became desensitised to the device and in some dogs it exacibated the problem and caused some anxiety.

Hi Jenny ASAP Labs are the cheapest that I have used. They have a detailed website with a lot of useful information. They also have a list of non-vet 'collectors' that may be cheaper than your vet. ASAP are cheaper but there may be issues with PRA testing since Gentech has the copy-right to do the test from the USA - ring ASAP and check if this applys to Poodles.

Thankyou everyone :)

Puppy Sniffer you are a legend and so deserve you nominations - if your care of my crew are any indication you are a perfect example of a superb pet-sitter.

Thankyou everyone - Pete and I are very chuffed. I need to say this because Pete is the un-sung hero here.I really cant do this all without Pete, he has my heart and soul and backbone and he is a joy to be around. Pete has launched himself into my hobby and loves the dogs dearly - he sing songs to the pups, annoyingly for others gives them unpronouncable Maori names for fun, says he gives the pregnant bitches Lamars rubs when they are due. Every gate on the place swings true, every fence is secure and the right hight, every pen has water and shade and shelter - all because Pete can do these things Im just a TA) and doesnt think twice about it. So thank you Pete you are a legend.
