My desexed bitch humps either of the 2 desexed bitches at times. My entire male (must get him done soon)never humps.

I agree with the media suggestion. They should lap it up.

Same here. I have never had any problems. My dogs just seemed happy to be wherever we were. I have not had to work outside the home though.

That was the Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo. That doesn't happen at our own fish markets?

What Do You Do With Your Dogs When You Go Away?
di_dee1 replied to aussielover's topic in General Dog Discussion
My 4 blue heeler x stay here in their 90mtr circumference dog yard with huge trees, garden shed with their beds, clamshell pool of water, a gravity fed drinking trough, snake netted and my FIL or a trusted friend comes daily to check and feed. They have dry food available 24/7 at these times and our carer feeds them a bone each and replenishes dry food and water as needed. -
We are a nation that eats (not everyone) our national emblems. Whilst I abhor what this restaurant is doing we do have to remember different countries..different mores. We can be looked badly on for eating roo, giving it to our dogs even if they are in plague proportions. It is all to do with perceptions. I am NOT saying this restaurant is right in doing what it is doing.

Oh I do hope he is reunited.

Publicity works very well. Poor dog having to go through that.

Side Effects Of Feeding Dogs Bread?

I am so glad that the soft approach has been taken well with her. Long may it continue. -
VERY interested in this idea.

I am on 500 acres, the snakes are welcome to all of it bar where we and the dogs are. We have the repellers..hmm, not sure about them as well as netting around the dog's 90mtr circumference dog yard and also the back yard. We have had numerous run ins with some snakes over the years and they were let get away or shot, whichever was the best alternative at the time due to ours or dog's placement in the different scenarios. I have played very very loud base on fully thumping music inside and stomped around the house hoping the one I saw go under the house would not like the vibrations. I have watched out the window as a snake wends its way into the paddock next to the house. If it is incoming only meters away then too bad. As long as their end is swift then all is good if it has to come to that. Beats driving an 70km to the vet for anti venom or observation which has also happened a few times.

Just A Heads Up. They're Back! It's Snake Season Again
di_dee1 replied to LizT's topic in General Dog Discussion
Lots of road kill ones here (out at woop woop) and 2 spotted close by the house but it looks like the netting may have deterred them from the dog yard. Tracks were lost when it went onto grass. In May my dogs were seen playing with a rbb, off to the vet and tested..all ok but my male tested positive for death adder!!! I was in Queensland at the time, hubby at home in NSW. Hubby said he hadn't seen one here in about 20 years. It has to have happened when they took off for 8 hours which made us put up the dog yard REALLY fast to contain them 15 months ago. -
I had the females desexed at just before 6 months of age. My vet will not do it before then. My male ACD is now 14 months, still entire. There is nothing that he can impregnate (on a farm, good dog proofed security for all 3) so he will be done when I get around to it. My late ACD had testicular cancer at aged 10. We got it all and he lived till he was 14. That is the reason that Bandit will be desexed.

Awww, so cute.

Ti tree oil? I know it is good as it got bubblegum out of my hair and off my skin when I was a kid but am not sure of the safety of it for dogs. Maybe ring your vet and ask?

Has Anyone Tried Natures Gift Products
di_dee1 replied to shyfig's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have only used the treats. The dogs love them in the kongs . -
Yes 10 days is nothing. I had two 9 month old pups in one for about that length of time. Enjoy your time away. I did, knowing I could call if I wanted too and I was happy with how they would be cared for and their treatment. They were pleased to come home and all over the staff as they left, a good sign that they were happy enough there.

Great news! I hope all goes well. Thanks for the update.

I too would watch and see, same as I do for us and kids when they were home. It would depend on severity and pain behaviour. My 3 dogs often have a limp for a couple of days after rough play. So has hubby at the moment.

I hope it went well. I too feel that if it is seen that the male misses the ex then he should be with him. I think it is very egotistical to think our dogs will not be happy with anyone except us. They can and do adjust over time. I may be facing my second fight with a very aggressive and sneaky cancer. It is odds on that I will be dead in a few years or sooner. I adore my dogs. I can't live without them, they are my sanity now my kids are grown and away. Two of them were only 3 months old when I started my chemo then radiation and they were with me all the way though it, along with their mother. There were days when having them next to me on the bed got me through. My husband may feel that 3 dogs are too many after my passing. I have assessed them and we have talked about which one/ones would cope better with rehoming should it come to that. A very good friend who does boarding in her own home and also rescues will take the dog/dogs and see that they go to a suitable situation if this occurs. I do not want any of them to go but I will not be there so I have to hope and assume that they can and will be happy with someone else. I bet they will be when and if this happens. I too think that many project human feelings, thoughts, attitudes on to their dogs that the dogs just do not have. It is US that have them.

It does not flood where I am and fire risk is low due to the paddocks and fire breaks. I have, however a pillow case to throw my 3 birds into should I have the time in event of a house fire. I too would get out early..just in case if some situation occurred. My son was due to fly out from an airport before Christmas 70kms away. We kept an eye on the flood levels which could have cut his access. When it looked like this could happen he packed dirty clothes etc quickly, drove his bird out here and stayed in town for the 3 nights till his plane left. The road did not close but better to have done what he did just in case it was. Nothing at all like having a flood or fire to deal with but if possible I feel the same principle can be applied..particularly with floods as there is lots of warning. I know that where my son lived in Sydney a fire came up to the back fence where there was bushland. (this was before he moved in) He told me that should another start many kms away that he the kids and guinea pigs would be out of there too, just in case. It would be so heartrending to have to leave beloved pets behind in a very fast happening emergency that can also, and does happen.

Not protection from people but a roo. Our old blue heeler (RIP) hated guns, hated going shooting hated even the gas scare guns we use for ducks in the rice bays. If he saw a rifle or shotty go in the car or ute he stayed inside. My then 22 yr old son went off on the property to shoot a roo for dog meat. The dog insisted that he go too this time. Son and dog were walking along hunting and son accidentally got between a roo and its joey. The roo came in fast. The dog deflected it giving my son time to rush to the car whilst being terrified that his beloved dog would be disemboweled. Both were shaken but ok.

Yes. Thoroughly agree with the last 2 posts. The analogy of a 90yr old person and a toddler is a very good one. Give the old one his space for some peace!

When in the big pen yard mine tend to voluntarily have a poo corner. As the pen is so large we just let it disintegrate. When inside my three go to the door and are then free to go wherever they wish outside. Again (as we are on farm) it is so disbursed that we just leave it too.

Beautiful pics. Yea, it does look so pretty, even we can appreciate its beauty whilst cursing its existence waist high in some of our paddocks.
