Please Make Sure Your Dogs Are Okay In The Heat
Asari replied to InspectorRex's topic in General Dog Discussion
Here in my part of SA its 40 already but im hoping the clouds that i see in the distance wont let it get higher. Had 4 fires start up already within striking distance but there under control at the moment so im home from work just incase we have to deal with a fire. -
AWWWW !!glad you got your walk Daisy . Its still hot outside here and i felt the rd and its still hot but its hotter inside atm so my panting dogs are outside with my OH wetting them with a hose to cool them off. Im up at 4.30 for work so i cant even take them then . Maybe i il bye a hat torch tomorrow so i can take them real late if its the same as today ,we are rural so no street lights bummer.
-
Well there wont be a walk tonight and its not that i dont want to but the dogs were really stressed today with the heat poor babys and the temp is still in the high 30 .........I love summer but this heat is nuts
-
I think the dogs know whats going on they were both sitting by the front door looking at me at 7 and were not happy when i told them they had to wait till it cooled of alittle more. We have just got back from our walk and i think im in trouble if i dont keep this up because they loved it. Maya was weighed at the vets the other day so atleast ill beable to tell if she is loosing the spare tyre

Bad mummy Hope she enjoyed the car ride. We just got back from our walk and Maya was so happy she kept looking up at me as if to say omg,omg this is great it was so cute.

So here goes nothing im in and tonight im getting out the front door with kids in hand . Ill be back to let you know how i got on.

Maggots (up Date : Now Talking About Other Yucky Things)
Asari replied to Erny's topic in General Dog Discussion
You would have had fun helping me clean out a young colts shoulder last year. One large hole about 10in by 4in and had to clean the maggots out every afternoon and clean the wound after a few days of that you can do anything -
This is part of what we were discussing today. Is the initial "depression" period due to psychological issues, pain, or owner attitude toward the dog, or a combination of all of these, do you think? We tryed to act very nomal around him and kept asking him to get out of bed and got the kids to play there games in front of him and just talk to include him. But once he decided to get up and start moving it only took 3 days and he was back to his own self and you wouldnt have known by the wayhe got around that he only had 3 legs infact he still outran the others
-
I think they can i had a dog 15 years ago that lost a limb and for 3 weeks he went through what i and the vet would call depression. It left me wondering if i had done the right thing but he snapped out of it and never looked back. We also had billy watch jemma get through a hedge and hit by a car she didnt make it and for 2 weeks everyday all day he layed were she got through he didnt eat much , he was a very sad dog the other two that didnt see it were fine and maya being her sister didnt even notice that she was gone. So i think they can and do go through sad moments that we can call depression.

Help! With Being Over Protective
Asari replied to Asari's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thanks for the replys i couldnt reply yeste to you as i ended up in bed.Its so hard to explain over a forum what hudson is doing. He is fine today and back to normal with me the only thing i think i could say to try and explain it is when david is fine and without pain he is fine and goes about his own day and dont care about what oh his doing with the other dogs and some days i find them all on the lounge cuddled up asleep. But we have days were oh cant take dogs sitting or laying on him and all the dogs know this and they wont ask too but they will go up to see if he is ok. Thats the time hudson will sit next to him to make sure they dont. I have had oh stay in the bedroom to see what happens and hudson will sit by the door all day and wont even move not even when the others go and try to get him to play. Oh was trying to call me one day as he needed me but i couldnt hear him and it was Hudson who came and got me to go to the room. I have started leaving him outside and you can see him listening out for any noise coming from oh and when he hears oh calling he will come to the gate and sit. Hudson tryed to help oh one day off the floor and into bed when he fell and then came and got me. Hudson is very quick to learn and is no problem (except a peeing problem but we have that under control now)and will always look at us for direction if he is not sure if he is aloud to do something.Having a house full of staffords we run a very tight ship and they all know there place. I wish i could explain just what he is doing but i can only try. I think he is taking the nanny dog saying alittle too far.
