  1. Thanks guys. Last night I decided to suck it up and kick one out the room [OH was in the other room reading, so they weren't alone] and I did find when I swapped them over, Peggie was raring to go! Still having trouble figuring out how to do this clicker thing without the need of 10 arms and hands. Spot also decided at one point my thumb was kinda edible and tried to eat it!
  2. After chatting to the lady via email, this is what she had to say about the specialist electives 'Train dogs for basic assistance roles' and 'Train dogs for basic substance detection roles'. These two electives aren't covered in the course costs and cost $170 each unlike 'Conduct companion animal training classes' and 'Provide food and water for animals' which are covered by the course costs. I'm curious, did they actually single you out as not doing the right things, or were they using you to demonstrate what not to do with a shy dog? I know it can be humiliating to be called out when doing something wrong [i've had it happen a few times at obedience] but could it have been that you had a shy dog and it was a dog perfect to be used as an example to teach other people how to do things and how not to do things with a shy dog?
  3. The course costs $3300 plus $340 if you do the extra two electives They add $50 on if you pay in 5 monthly installments and add $150 on if you pay in 10 monthly installments.
  4. Have a google for books about grieving for pets. There are a few out there based for children. I can't think of any off the top of my head but someone else might know of them.
  5. this one? http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...4&hl=cuddle
  6. Mine does this too! It is so damn annoying!
  7. Whoops! You sound like me. Hopefully we both aren't bothering the same person there because I think she is sick of the questions just from me alone. I can't help it though, I am excited. Had to sign up to DOL today so I had another outlet for it. Well they get paid to answer our stupid questions!
  8. Ah ok! That makes more sense [right after I emailed her...oh well!]
  9. Yes (case in point - - the other girls were in the room. You see them at the end of the video). My two older dogs (the young one isn't clicker trained) know when I am working with them or not. They know this because of a few things. Firstly I always say "Jedi's turn" at which point Ahsoka goes to lie down or do her own thing (and vice versa). They also know that I'm working with them because I am looking at them and interacting with them. Ahsoka and Jedi have been trained to rest while I'm training the other. I have not found it to be a problem in terms of click = reward. I watched that video! Very cute! Esky the Husky showed it to me. Can I ask how you trained your dogs to rest while the other is being trained? I know Peggie generally will go rest when I'm training Spot but Spot [who is an attention and food seeker] always gets up and gets in the way when I am trying to train Peggie.
  10. I don't believe JulesP is trolling. Either something is wrong (we all have rotten days/weeks/months that accumulate and get on top of us from time to time) or there has been a misunderstanding of words, intent ... or both. Give her a chance. As Ravyk has mentioned, she is a long standing DOL Member and generally her posts have come across as being very sympathetic to her dogs. I'm not saying she is trolling, its just in response to those who are saying she is trolling. My other thought is maybe her account is being accessed by someone else?
  11. I thought the NDTF long distance course didn't start until October? Might email the lady about that...
  12. pretty poor joke - there are a lot of sincere, caring and knowledable people here who don't deserve the p*ss taken. fifi I suspect if the OP turns around, she might see something like this As far as I'm concerned, that's what she's done to her credibility with me. Same here. It does seem rather odd that such a long standing member of the forum would be out trolling. Normally it's new members that troll like this.
  13. Peggie came to me to turn me into a crazy dog lady! She is the dog that got me started on the road I am on now and showed me what unconditional love really is. Spot came to me to show me what potential pound dogs have. He jumped into my heart as soon as I saw his face in the pound picture posted on this very forum and he will never leave.
  14. I've started to clicker train, but I'm facing a bit of a dilemma. I get the whole if you click you reward but how do you train when you have two dogs? I've tried shutting one out the room when I am training one, but all I get is whining and scratching at the door. And I feel bad about shutting one dog out. Is it possible to clicker train one dog with the other dog in the room but still have the dog you aren't training know that the click = treats every time? Or do I just need to suck it up and shut the other dog out?
  15. Danielle, I think what you have done is a lot more the most people would do for a dog. I think you have done all you can do, and it's not your fault that your friend won't listen to you. to you.

  17. I don't normally venture in here at risk of bawling my eyes out [which I currently am] Nic, Ray sounds like he was an amazing dog. I am glad you gave him that extra bit to life and I am sure you and your family are eternally grateful for what he gave to you. RIP Ray
  18. I have a 550D and LOVE it! I love the photos that I am taking and it's been really easy to learn to use. I opted for just the body, not twin lense kit [didnt want those lenses] and bought lenses that I wanted. I bought myself a [new] Canon 1.4 50mm lens, [2nd hand] Canon 60mm macro lens and a [2nd hand] Tamron 17-250 [?] zoom lens.
  19. I don't really want to post this, but I have a feeling she is listed on Gumtree.
  20. I think can is the operative word here. There are plenty of us with working line dogs who have no behavioural issues with them whatsoever. Yes my point exactly. I am sure your working line dogs are properly socialised and stimulated, hence no issues... unlike my OH's 'mates'' -she's been socialised, just isn't stimulated enough, hence the nuttiness and cratered yard.
  21. *sticks flame suit on* Well since the person wants to now give the dog away, couldn't someone from DOL nearby to them take the dog and take it to the vet to be assessed and possibly PTS? If I was in the area I would but I am interstate. I think it would be a VERY irresponsible thing for this dog who appears to be HA to be given away for someone else to 'deal with'.
  22. A working line dog bought into a home isn't really a good idea. The working lines are bred to work, and they can go nutty kept in a backyard [i know because an idiot 'mate' of OH's has a working line BC in his backyard, digging craters]. I agree with the people saying PTS is the kindest option.
  23. That sounds interesting I have emailed them Hey Monah is says you have to submit your CV. Whats that mean? Does this mean you have to have previous qualifications? A CV is basically your resume, previous jobs and qualifications you have.
  24. Not sure what commodore you have driven but they aren't bad at all in traffic. We get about 500ks in city driving on a tank of fuel [OH drives it about 100ks a day to and from work through suburbia] and close to 700-800 highway driving in our VT.
