  1. Lucky...all I am getting is watch replicas and medication spam.
  2. We had by-laws officers give our club a talk a while back and "under effective control" means that the dog must stay within 3m of you. That is interesting. I always wondered what "under effective control" meant in the by laws. I always assumed that it was if you had your dog under effective control with voice commands [ie. came back when you called, etc]
  3. In my council area there are only two leashed parks. All the rest are off leash. I have one down the road from me which is relatively quiet dog wise but my only issue is that it isn't fenced from the main road. But the park is big enough I can keep my dogs away from the road. I tend to keep walking if there are dogs in the park because I normally do some training with them whilst there and other dogs are a needless distraction.
  4. I'm no expert but Miss Squish agrees with me. The black boy looks and acts like he has Lab in him, he has a very Lab like temp and his tail is about as lethal! The brindle girl appears to have Staffy in her and is an excitable bag of beans. They are litter mates, so we think multiple males got to the female.
  5. I am subscribed to a Adelaide group who puts out calls for assistance. They've just put out a call for help for an Autism Assistance Dog called Freemont in Adelaide Freemont is very very sick and had to have emergency surgery over the weekend. Finances are very tight for the family and their beloved pet is on the waiting list for more costly surgery. Financial Support from Guide Dogs SA is already stretched and Freemont assists with Coby's 2 children both with Autism. If you can help please message Coby Hudson on Facebook. http://www.facebook.com/coby.hudson From Coby via FB
  6. Henna aka 'little miss mischief' Jumping the logs Sleepy time! Bentley, aka 'mr handsome' And another looking handsome. Seriously how gorgeous is he?? RAWR! I'm scary!
  7. Many dogs grow out of it. I have a Cattle X who also chucked on 5 minute car trips. He's now been on 600k, 1500k, 2500k trips with no throwing up. I didn't use ginger, he just eventually got used to the motion of the car. Try to keep your driving as smooth as possible, I found that it was the stopping and starting motions that caused him to be sick.
  8. Hey Dory, if you want more photos of Dory, shoot me a PM and we can arrange a time for me to come photograph her. I promise I won't Dory-nap her too much. I'm going to have fun today! Looking after the two Pei X pups Miss Squish is fostering. :D
  9. OMG! Are they ticks in the dogs mouth??
  10. That is so effing stupid! I have heard of cases where the council and the RSPCA have been called out to help a dog multiple times [in this case the dog was in a drain, injured and the person couldn't get it out]. The dog DIED, because both took their bloody time to do anything about it. :D
  11. I haven't camped in a place yet that has been fenced off. Both mine are perfect with their recalls and generally stay around the camp site or snooze in the tent/car. I always carry a leash with me though around the camp site and obey the rules if the camp site says dogs must be on leash. Your best option is either crate them or tether them if they are a bit dubious with recalls. If you want a good idea of what to take camping, with the dogs, check out these threads: http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...&hl=camping http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...&hl=camping http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?show...&hl=camping
  12. Good work! Make sure when you do call talk to a vet, not a nurse. If I had listened to the nurse, my dog would have been dead. He got into 140g of Dark chocolate which was enough for a lethal dose to a 22kg dog. But I insisted on talking to the vet and she told me to bring him down...he got to the stage of loosing coordination in the waiting room before he started to throw the chocolate up. It was very scary watching him just flop to the floor every time he tried moving. From what I recall my vet saying, a 1/4 ounce of dark chocolate per 1kg of weight is a potentially lethal dose. The still hasnt learnt his lesson and has a bad obsession with chocolate.
  13. I don't allow it. One of mine picked it up from a serial humper at the DOL meets, and occasionally tries it on other dogs. He gets told off quick smart because I don't like it, the other dogs don't like it and I'm pretty sure their owners don't like it. ETA. only time I ever allowed it, was when he gave the serial humper a taste of his own medicine, and his owner was ok with her dog being given a taste of his own medicine. The look on the dog's face was priceless.
  14. You can rent caravans, but I don't know if they will allow you to have dogs in rental caravans. And most, if not all caravan parks I've come across do not allow dogs in their onsite caravans. We holiday with our dogs, and we camp 99% of the time.
  15. Well I had fun and so did the dogs. But all three of us are now buggered. Dory escaped my dog napping attempts again...safe for another month! Thanks DBT for bringing your clippers! I really appreciated it, and I think Peggie will too [when she gets over the injustice of being bundled into a van and being clipped]
  16. My main issue is that she doesn't offer other behaviours. Say if I offer my hand to her with nothing in it, she will nose it, nose it, nose it and then give up. Spot on the other hand will nose it, lick it, mouth it, paw it, put his head under it, etc. I've been sent a video link to something I will try with her tomorrow. Its about paw targeting, hopefully it will help her learn to offer new actions.
  17. Anyone planning on going? My partner and I are trying to wrangle up some of our friends to go along, but I am sure we will have room for people on our table.
  18. Depending what the weather is like, will depend on whether we come or not. Hoping it will be nice so I can also go to obedience.
  19. Ok thanks heaps guys. I might see if I can find some good books on clicker training. Do you have any recommendations?
  20. Hope you don't get sick of me too much! I have two dogs I am clicker training. Spot has caught on extremely well and is moving forward in leaps and bounds. Peggie is definitely getting it but seems to be getting confused. I started off teaching them to 'drop' with the clicker, they already knew drop but I just did it to mainly build my confidence. Luring them into drop, clicking and rewarding. Both got the hang of this well and I've added the command drop into it with no hassles. They both are now dropping to a hand signal and voice command, then being rewarded with a click and treat. Haven't moved on to slowly phasing out the rewards yet. Today I started to teach them 'shake'. Spot got it really well and has gone ahead in leaps and bounds, and will 'shake' on command already. He kind of knew the trick beforehand. Peggie is getting a little confused. She still thinks she needs to 'drop' to get the treat. She automatically goes into a drop when I start training. Which is a little annoying as I need her sitting to teach shake. When I do get her sitting and start training, I lift her paw and click and reward. She hasn't quite got the hang of offering me her paw yet [but I don't expect her too, she learns slower than Spot]. I'll swap back to Spot and then to Peggie again and she goes back to dropping to get the reward [not that I am clicking it]. I can see that she is getting confused, but I don't know how to fix it. What am I doing wrong?
  21. Does anyone who is attending have a pair of dog clippers I can borrow? I need to clip around my dog's butt but don't have any clippers. I'd only need them for a little while and I can plug them into the inverter in our car, so you can take them home with you.
  22. I got told in one of the latest emails I got there were only a few places left in the August ones, which were only available for people who could find their own transport and accommodation in Melbourne to and from the training place.
