  1. I have had a few toilet training problems over the years(with the dogs of course) LOL. And one of the cases with a very stubborn bitch. What about taking the trouble maker outside on a lead. And they can not make a bolt for the garage. Rain is a bloody frustrating time to toilet dogs. As soon as you get home he goes out with you and you make sure he goes. ones and twos.
  2. LOL It worked- and no tummy problems!! yay for junk food ! lol yeah the one case where junk food is good for you lol.. Thats shocking. Junk food is never good. Has he been tested for thyroid imbalance
  3. Abbey at about a year old and then at 2 and a half
  4. Abbey at about 4 weeks old I think Then again at a couple of months
  5. With large breed and at risk dogs I always feed twice a day unless of course we are travelling somewhere early in the morning. Then I feed when we get there if it is not too late in the day. My dogs get fed between 5.30 and 6.30 in the morning and 5.00 at night. They know when it is feed time. Our parrot loves socialising at feed time cause of the hype that goes on. I will never ever feed Bulldogs or Bullmastiffs only one feed a day
  6. Have you got any wire fences that he may of put his foot under and then wrenched it up maybe some wire has gone through it. How deep does the wound look?
  7. Are you sure its not something that has gone right through his foot between his pads. There might be an entry wound underneath. Does it look big enough for a stitch. I would bathe in dettol for starters and gently dry to get a better look at the wound. Make sure there is still nothing in there.
  8. I enjoy watching Caesars programmes and his handling of each case that is presented to him. He says it how it is, and he has helped many people and dogs understand how it should be.
  9. Hi Toolz There are alot of kiwis that recommend the mighty mix that you are talking about. How old is he. Sounds like he is getting a heck of alot to eat. if he is getting that amount. a kg of dog roll??? so long as he doesnt get a real bloated look to him or gets very uncomfortable i would suggest just starving him for the next meal at least the next meal. It wont do him any harm what so ever. or at least give him a couple of biscuits if you dont feel happy that he doesnt get a meal. it does sound like his gut may need a good rest. What have his stools been like. Have they been hard or has he been constitpated lately or are they a good consistancy. I feed all my dogs twice a day and about once a month they miss a meal time Do be careful with the amount you do feed.
  10. I have a bitch here whose nails have very long quicks. Usually this is brought about by them not being cut very often. In her case she was an outside dog and did wear them down but not as much as she should of. She also has very thick black nails which is unusual seeing as she is not a big bitch. Thats where cutting and grinding them as well come in handy. but make sure you get a quieter grinder and a portable one as well. grinding the nails finishes them off nicely and gets rid of any sharp edges left behind by cutting. Alot of dogs dont get the road work and arent walking on concrete all day. Also some dogs dont have correct feet shape which means that their nails arent touching the ground properly and do wear differently.
  11. I use the clip and then grind method. The Bulldogs and Bullmastiffs can be buggers for not wanting their nails clipped. We had one big boy(Bulldog) whom it used to take four people to clip his nails. Yes you may get a bleeder if you cut too close. Condys crystals are perfect for putting on bleeders. I have have the container handy in case I need it which is not often) and also cotton buds. Wet the cotton bud in your mouth pick up some CC's on the end of the cotton bud, quickly and gently wipe the bleed and then apply the crystals to the site. It can be very hard to cut nails with an unwilling dog. Black nails I ususally make sure I check them every week if the dogs are not on concrete. Grinding the nails after cutting is really good as if you do go to close to the quick it will act as a cauteriser(sp). And you can round the nails off well.
  12. Oh I am so sorry to read this. I didnt realise until now that Rex is no longer with you. Big hugs to you all RIP Rex
  13. My bullmastiff bitchhas eaten soap. Oh god what hasnt she eaten. No ill effects. it wasnt a full bar of soap. she now grabs the toothpaste if she wants a munch
  14. i am more than happy to take him to the vet, but it felt like last time they were trying to make the most (money) out of my paranoia. i have copies of the x-rays (in paper format, they wouldn't give me the originals) and i cant see anything, but obviously im not a vet so i wouldn't know what to look for. can anyone give help me with this one? i have tried to inlcude as much detail as i think would help, but im glad to answer whatever anyone needs to help. Thanks in advance. Nick. Firstly Nick. in my opinion, you have paid for your xrays. They are yours. if you would like a second opinion on the matter which is not resolving itself with meds then you are entitled to take those xrays. he may have a problem with his heart, surely if his rythym was irregular they would of told you. He may still have some infection that hasnt cleared. Our kelpie did eat grass. sometimes it may be due to an underlying intestinal problem and he needs to make himself be sick. other times dogs eat grass for the nutrients or simply because they can. our boy panted due to the fact that he worked all day. I dont think you are being paranoid but maybe another opinion is a good idea
  15. This is a poem I wrote when we said goodbye to one of our beautiful dogs. Ok so I know it is a bit soppy but this is something I had to do. Hope you like it. With trusting eyes and forgiving mind A heart that holds no fear Quietly he left our lives Our beautiful Ed E Bear With endless love to give us all He taught us how to care And quietly he gave us hope Our gorgeous Ed E Bear So many times people have said Don't give your heart to a dog to tear But you've never lived until you've loved Our precious Ed E Bear If we could walk to the ends of the earth And could keep all thats dear We would walk a thousand miles For our darling Ed E Bear Every day we shared with him We will cherish and hold so near Until we meet again our boy Our adorable Ed E Bear But where there is love there is always loss With a grieving heart and many a tear And an Angel came and put her hand On our Forever Ed E Bear Debs
  16. Just one to share. I memorised this verse about 20 years ago. Not bad for remembering it now I have hit the 40's Do doggies go to heaven?, yes I really think they do. It may sound quite fantastic, all the same it may true. That human love gives them release, and sets their dumb souls free. As love divine gives us our hope of immortality. It may be that they pass through a land of endless lanes, where they can scamper and escape from whips and leads and chains. A happy land where life's all bones and biscuits fun and play. And cosy kennels snug and warm, when daylight fades away. Where is that dear old creature who was faithful to the end? Where is that little pal you loved, that understanding friend? That soul, imprisoned in the melting depths of amber eyes. He's surely waiting somewhere, in some doggy's paradise. Author unknown to me. This was taken from an old Dog world.
