Martin Clunes: Life With Dogs
Bullbreedlover replied to Brennan's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
The Bulldog puppies were absolutely gorgeous. To be honest Martin was upfront and to the point. I was a little upset at what he said first off about pedigree dogs but he was only stating the truth. He mentioned Inbreeding of dogs which has been around for a long time but it is not necessarily a bad thing. I guess it is hard to put the pros and cons for this arguement in a documentary knowing that the joe public is not going to be interested in the fors. They only think of the bad side of this. We have genetically engineered these dogs. Allbeit over hundreds and hundreds of years. The Bulldog was bred for a specific purpose. They are a man made breed. We have to now prove that we can still breed healthy dogs and that the breeders out there are trying to preserve their breeds. I gave both programmes on the life with dogs a big -

Giant Snapping Oodle? Wouldn't have to worry about it running away. You cant name it a giant snapping oodle. It would then be classed as a dangerous.....uuummmm....dog? -

Can I please have a bulldog/bullmastiff cross please. Thank you Oh and can you please deliver the day before christmas Thank you -
aussielover who told you bullmastiffs are a bit lazy they totally misinformed you Scott85. You say you got your baby at 12 weeks or there abouts. Have you contacted the breeder to see if they had any problems with him before you got him. ie, hanging back alot, not playing with litter mates, not wanting to socialise. He may be a little scared of the new changes to his surroundings. Some dogs do not like being on a lead at all. This can be overcome by givig treats and gaining trust Personal message me if you like by clicking on my user name and select send me a message.

Do Not Walk Your Dog Off Lead!
Bullbreedlover replied to lovemesideways's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have seen this many times over many years. And every single time I say to myself...what if... Young guys with puppys off lead walking them down a busy road. Couples walking their dog who is at least 3 metres in front or lagging behind eta RIP Cooper -

I have never owned a bull breed. I will never own a bull breed. I can admire them but they are not for me. Fighting BSL needs to be a lot more than bullbreed owners defending their right to own a dog. Its about ensuring community safety by eliminating breed stereotyping that simply isn't accurate. We all think we own the best breeds in the world. We all need to unite to ensure that responsible dog owners aren't penalised in their breed choices by dickheads who shouldn't own a pet rock. rephrasing to say "what some of us are trying to put across" cause we do own Bullbreeds
-
Your comment from page 1. Well its not rocket science to realise that you have not owned a Bullbreed. Sadly I think you are missing out in one of the greatest pleasures in the dog world. For if you had, you will understand what we are trying to put across.

People own large breed dogs for alot of reasons. For many of the joe public out there they are a status symbol for them. No ifs, no buts. In saying that I also know of hard core bikers who own very small breeds. Many people have no idea in the fact that dogs are dogs. Just like children are children. Just like some adults and not adults They need supervision. They need to learn and be taught.

I wish people would stop declaring breeds as dangerous. Each individual dog is capable of being dangerous. And yes I defend the bullbreeds because I own them.

Is There Anything I Could/should Do?
Bullbreedlover replied to Kaffy Magee's topic in Breeders Community
Oh Kaffy I am so so sorry This is tragic but please dont blame yourself. I will never ever give bones to my dogs simply because I dread this kind of thing happening. I do feed raw chicken but the frames are all minced up. If you have offered another puppy then that is wonderful. I feed dry food but it is just soaked enough to moisten but the biscuits are still crunchy. I am so sorry -
Martin Clunes: Life With Dogs
Bullbreedlover replied to Brennan's Mum's topic in General Dog Discussion
Martins enthusiasm during the whole show was actually bubbling over. he seemed genuine as he went in search of the wolves, his dingo expedition and the jrts. The stuffed dog museum was uumm, interesting to say the least. The wolf man whom they showed has been on TV before quite awhile ago. I cant remember how long but it was awhile. When I watched the program I just wanted to be able to reach out and touch the wolves and be amongest them. They are beautiful but very misunderstood creatures. I have loved wolves for many many years. Even doing a speech about them at intermediate school. Gosh that was a few years ago LOL -
Tick Treatment , What Do U Reccomend?
Bullbreedlover replied to springdog's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I also use advantix but early last year after my dogs had been treated with this 2 weeks later I was extracting bush ticks from them. Was not happy. My sisters neighbour used the tick collars but their dog was struck don with paralsis ticks while wearing it. The ticks were under the collar. I dont know how long the collar had been on for. -
Hope all is well teekay Do we have an emergency go to area thread on DOL(yes I know vets are best but sometimes we need to look things up) that we can pin stuff like this. Removal of ticks etc. I have removed bush ticks from my dogs without problems.

Sparring Breeds In The Show Ring
Bullbreedlover replied to poodlefan's topic in General Dog Discussion
Back in NZ I have stewarded for many judges in the terrier ring who have sparred dogs against others whilst judging. Always done in controlled circumstances and was definetly to display the true terrier characteristics within the breeds. Always done with the OK from exhibitors. 20 years ago in the Staffords(being true terriers that they are) many exhibitors had to stand distances apart before being judged. Fox terriers, Kerries, Westies, Staffords. to name a few. At a fairly recent show a judge in Brisbane actually excused a Westie from the ring because it was displaying assertiveness in the ring....... It is wonderful to watch true sparring. These days alot of dogs especially Terriers can be very flat -
My wonderful mentor mother use to make exactly the same assessment, and was bloody good at it. Even when some Bulldogs went through the uglies at a young age she stuck by her choice and was proven correct. I am so much in awe of my mother with all her knowledge. Now she no longer breeds or shows.

:D Pretty soon those hubby's and wives who god forbid kiss wont do so for fear of contracting nasties. oh well looks like my dogs wont be able to give me bullmastiff kisseys now. They have germs.

Well , it doesnt look like there are many "for" the subject. But with being owned by dogs all my life, if I had a skinned knee or graze(as was quite common as a kid) our Boxers did used to lick our wounds. None ever got infected and actually healed really well. Isnt it funny how some people think of these things as gross. We sterilise our world so much these days when in fact what we are doing is probably doing more harm than good. Kids have no resistance to bacteria in the world today. Over 30 years ago we were all exposed and we all lived. As kids we used to eat dirt, grass(or some of us did anyway ) eta I still remember, as a four year old at kindy sitting out with friends finding worms and eating dirt LOL 38 years later I am still here.

I would get a letter from the vet explaining that the tooth was knocked out by an accident. if you are ever asked you can present it. standard does state perfect, regular and complete scissor bite. I know of a bitch I judged whom the owner had absolutely no idea the dog only had 5 lower incisors instead of the standard required 6. What part of "do you not look in your dogs mouth"????? came into my mind

I could maybe probably give it a go Dont know if I can draw though
