I have a vet to call tomorrow. Comes recommended
-
What do people pay for titre testing? It is too late to ring the vet tonight. will do it tomorrow. I will also check out the Gatton vet where I took all the donations to to see what they charge. I dont want to pay a consult fee for everyone of them. They dont need it. I can check their vitals myself and feel for lumps and bumps. will check out greyhound breeders Nekhbet. I know one very close by.

C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Bullbreedlover replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
Good post Jed. Short but sweet. eta not that short but still sweet :D And by the way Erny and JB. No where in this thread have I mentioned another registry. If you would like to think I am talking about Steve and try to read something into that, then sorry, you are mistaken. I was talking about people in general. I am allowed to. Apology...wont hold my breathe. -
I have to get my dogs booster vaccinations. There are no ifs or buts about it. I dont believe in yearly vaccinations but that is not the point. So far I have had 4 different prices. The first price from my vet close by(and I cant remember what I paid last year) just about floored me. The other prices were nearly up there as well. One price I got is from a vet in Brisbane. It would actually be worth me driving all the way to Brisbane and back to get my dogs vaccinated than it would be to get them done locally. Now, I used to work at a large Vet Club back in NZ. I know what the vaccinations cost 4 years ago. OK so it is 4 years ago, but still. These prices are standard prices. Yes I know a consult is built into the price etc etc. The highest price I got quoted was $87.00 each for a C5. The lowest prices would still be worth me driving to Brisbane instead. What does everyone else pay? And I was also told that they do not do a 3 year Booster as parvo in the area is quite bad. That is not to say that other vets dont. What does everyone else pay and do you expect the full works with each and every dog when they get vaccinated. I know that each vet says they give the dogs a full check over, but it is not necessary all the time and why should you have to pay for all that when you dont want it. I have two older dogs and a younger one. The last time the two older dogs saw a vet was a year ago for their last booster. The younger one 15 months ago .

..... who are you referring to in that potentially collective statement, Stonebridge? Am I "just not worth it"? Is that what you are meaning? Why dont you "read" my post properly Erny. And then get back to me. -
And how would you propose such people be removed Gayle? DogsQld rule 224 Any person causing annoyance by loud comments on the decision of the Judges or being guilty of unsportsmanlike action while in the precincts of an exhibition shall be guilty of an offence agains these Rules and may, after being cautioned by a member of the show Committee or other Official of the show, be ordered to leave the show. If such person fails to comply with such order he shall be guilty of a further offence against these Rules.

Swanbrook As you become a regular DOLer you will come to realise that there will be people on this forum with whom you should just not worry about. It is just not worth it. DOLer "Steve" is a lady called Julie. You didnt know that so I thought it best to let you know. -
What do you mean? Am thinking of using it in conjuction with a 6ft wooden fence to stop Poppy from going up onto the retaining wall and around onto the pebbles? Well You didnt mention that part in the first post, so people are assuming you meant as a boundary system.
-
Very true And dont forget people and dogs can still walk on to the property. I prefer real fences

I can well imagine it would be a huge task. Who would be able to start it? You? Would you begin the ball rolling Stonebridge? If I could I would! Sadly I dont think many Queenslanders would be up to wanting an ex kiwi to try to save the Qld doggy world. -

Have you read ANY of the posts here from people who have said they have tried to expose those doing the wrong things? Almost without exception the canine controls will do nothing. How are people meant to act if those with the responsibility to police these things won't??? Hhhhhmmmmm ..... Then what can be done? What is needed? Push for the Canine Control exec members to be elected annually and take away the RASQ as was tried to be introduced a few years ago but it didnt happen. Make them accountable for the running of DogsQld and ensure they play by the rules. It can be done but it is a huge task. -
Can someone please supply me a link from the AVA as to this 3 year vaccination. I saw an article on TV earlier today which was talking about 3 year vacs. Well i missed half of it. I am loath to get my kids vaccinated every year and I want to give this 3 year vac a go. BUT the kennels I take my dogs to(dont get me wrong she is a lovely lady) were saying that they cant get done unless it is an increased booster to last the 3 years. Not just a booster that is administered evey year. And this was from the boarding kennels assoc I think. i am confused very confused. Can someone enlighten me further about this please so i can send the link to her.

Oh yeah Sleeping with judges is an oldie but a goody. Actually sometimes it is true
-
Yes Yes Yes No Sometimes. If the bitch's owner can explain rationally and sensibly why they think my dog is the right choice for her then I would be very much inclined to let them use him as long as she's reg'd, health tested, not horrendous, they're registered etc etc etc. I might not agree 100% with their logic (If I totally disagreed it would be a straight no) but maybe I'm wrong, maybe they're wrong. If they have considered the situation and have a plan, I would almost always be inclined to let them try it out. What Sandra said too

I have been around the show ring for a few years. And I have pretty much seen it all. I have read everyones comments and they all pretty much sum up what the breeding and show world is about. It is a competitive world out there. I am a very passionate person with my chosen breeds. Bulldog, Bullmastiff and French Bulldog. And anyone who knows me, knows, that I say it how it is. If they ask my opinion I will tell them what I think. My family and I have been hugely successful with showing and breeding, and from my parents and my hubby, I have learnt to be a graceful loser when not on the pegs LOL. It has taken awhile. I was not always that way. I used to be very outspoken if I knew that a inferior dog was awarded a top place. No. its not because I was beaten. It was because there was clearly a misjustice in the judging. There have been plenty of knives pulled out of my back. The thing is, I dont care any more. People have accused me of having dogs dying from heat exhaustion(none ever have), my dogs only winning because the judge wasnt a specialist, therefore they knew nothing. Oh yeah, it hurts like hell. When it comes down to the nuts and bolts of it all, be truthful in all that you do. Many people cant be, which is sad. Many people take pleasure in backstabbing or degrading people who have done no wrong.

C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Bullbreedlover replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
i suspect you are right steve. i had hoped that them being accredited breeders they may have had a higher standard to attain. this system leaves a lot to be desired. ...............and now you are starting to understand what we are talking about. Accredited Puppy Farmers, do you really want to be an Accredited Breeder and on the same level as they are. Even scarier - do you want to be a registered breeder who is not accredited and spoken about as if you are even worse than they are? What is there to be scared off??? So people choose not to be accredited. What are you going to do...tar and feather them because they choose to be different than the puppy farmers/unethical breeders who have simply paid a bit of money and signed a form to be accredited. -
Toowoomba Help For Pets In Need
Bullbreedlover replied to Bullbreedlover's topic in General Dog Discussion
I hope that pretty much covers Scrappy's account. That'd be great to hear updates about the animals' progress. Thanks for finding a way we could help. Well....no it didnt cover her account all up. The vet bill was rather huge but we have just made a fantastic dent in it for which Scrappys owner is immensely grateful. I just spoke to Jeff and he has been in Grantham for a big part of the last two weeks, still helping to search. He told me that the town and surrounding areas are just horrific. Maybe we will get more donations!!!!! regards scooby -

Just to let you all know that $775.00 has been received by Gatton Uni Small Animal vet centre and will be put on Scrappys account. A wonderful effort to those who contributed to this and to the money raised to buy goods. I know this might sound a bit silly...but... Thank You from the bottom of the animals hearts and a big Thank you from me. I will endeavour to get an update of all the animals progress in the next couple of days -
C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Bullbreedlover replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
NOPE, I've just accepted that those too frightened of being subjected to scrutiny will condemn anyone who has the courage to stand up and be counted. All I see written here is a reaction to fear of discovery. Belittle, discount, condemn and take all steps to destroy something which is threatening to you. I'm a much more positive person than to choose to become part of that. And yes, I'M AN ACCREDITED BREEDER !!!!!! AND PROUD OF IT. Can you say that No I didin't think so. To frightened of being subjected to scrutiny You are an accredited breeder. Well done. Do you want a medal for your trouble? eta If you knew what I know then you might change your tune about ethical accredited breeders. -

Bullbreedlover replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
Wags DogsQld cant even adhere to ANKC regulations, and yes I have proof. How the heck are dogslqd going to police this new accreditation system when they cant even look in their own back yard and do the right thing? What a joke. And they have the balls to go to bed with the RSPCA. Yeah I am pissed off. DogsQld members had the opportunity a few years ago to make changes to the way the council were voted in. Sadly I was very new to the country and wasnt up to the play with it. But unfortunately it was voted to keep the way the system is now. Clearly now a huge downfall for the pedigree breeders in Qld. -

BigW...I am not having a go at you as such...You have the same wonderful breed as me. but I cant agree with your views that the accreditated breeder system is the best thing in the world since sliced bread. It truly is not. eta having a problem with spell check again today -
C.c.c. Qld's New Breeder Accredited System
Bullbreedlover replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
BigW...the CCCQ or DogsQld cant even abide by the rules of ANKC in some cases. How are they going to set a precedence to breeders when they cant even do that? And I never said anything about unproven statements. I have all the proof in the world. CCCQ didnt want to know about it when questioned of their actions. ANKC couldnt go against the decision of CCCQ In another matter DogsQld stuffed up majorly concerning the registration of puppies in another breed and then had to back track big time when said puppies parentage needed DNA testing. So when the registry themselves cant abide by rules it doesnt hold much hope for the Accreditation system does it? So if you do want some good reasons, you dont have to dig deep to find them. I am sure every breed will have bad breeders. I am sure others will know of lots of dodgy practices Yet these people may portray themsleves as being totally trustworthy. The mentor system is definetly needed, but there in lies another problem. Each indiviual breeder has their own interpretation of the Standard and of breeding practices. Who is to say their opinion is correct. I have shown pedigree dogs for 35 years. My mentors were my parents. I have had the good judgement and the foresight to truly appreciate why each of my breeds exist, the standards as they should be applied in my breeding programmes, and the ability to recognise a wonderful specimen. I am not kennel blind either. But just because people put their names down to be a mentor doesn't necessarily mean that they have the qualities as a person to fullfil the task. Many mentoring situations happen by word of mouth not by payment of money. -

Bullbreedlover replied to Swanbrook's topic in General Dog Discussion
There is 1 Qld Breeder out of three who advertise on the DogsQld website. So what? Maybe other breeders dont wish to be part of the scheme because they dont wish to pay yet another fee when they already have good breeding practices and care about the Code of Ethics and minimum breeding ages of bitches. But not everyone is squeaky clean though. -
Minimum Breeding Ages For Bitches - Vic
Bullbreedlover replied to SwaY's topic in Breeders Community
With these ages, I know that Qld has been party to allowing a bitch(Bullmastiff) to be bred from under the minimum age for that particular breed. The puppies were registered on Main instead of limited. This was after the ruling came in with ANKC. And the ANKC were not prepared to go against what the CCCQ did. The CCCQ were not prepared to change what they had done. So while these may be the minimum ages for breeding it can also be all smoke and mirrors. And personally I believe the minimum age for Bulldogs should be 18 months not 12 months
