  2. I remember when Mum brought the book Must search it out when we go back in a couple of weeks time The Bulldog??? I think I can remember it was owned by Wes Stacey? Can someone check please ;) I cant remember about a Bullmastiff or a French Bulldog.
  3. I hear you Oakway and yes I just dont care any more either at the moment. I used to care. We might be members but in reality we are just numbers. I havent bred a litter in the time we have been in Aus and I may never do so but I have paid my membership money every year and have actively shown my dogs when I could. At the moment I just cant be bothered for numerous reasons. And it makes me really sad.
  4. Blackdog You have contributed twice to this thread. The first time clearly pushing your thoughts as to why we would all benefit in joining the ABS. The second time clearly pushing your view that your contribution to this thread has been one of great information. You said -embrace it as a means to an end- an end to what? BYB and Puppy faming. Seriously. Perhaps your efforts may be more welcomed if you could explain to us exactly what the agendas are that DogsQld have. We are all dying to know
  5. What I envisage will happen, of course we can all see it.. is that DogsQld will go out to bat for those who have paid their money to become accredited and those who havent paid their money, (because they already believe themselves to be ethical and dont need to have a piece of paper to back it up,) will be left in the changing rooms. They will also be in need of support because they are a "DogsQld member" and have a right to be heard but they wont receive half as much help.
  6. Blackdog I could name a breeder right now who has discredited herself within one of my breeds. But where is that going to lead me? DogsQld were party to this ANKC Rule being broken. This is not casting any allegation around recklessly. But what you seem to be saying is that they are suppose to abide by the rules NOW. Oh I get it. What happened before doesnt matter? If you have read this whole thread then you would of seen my concerns. DogsQld have themselves to blame for this whole crooked scheme they have introduced. Because DogsQld have no backbone to enforce the rules. Oh they have when they want to of course. OK so this case happened a few years ago now. "So what" people might say. Some of us have long memorys. Some of us are sick and tired of being abused at shows. Well why should I want to become a member when I know this is all smoke and mirrors and you only have to pay your money, sign a few forms and be a member. If they let someone in who they know helped break the rules and they themselves(DogsQld) were guilty of not giving a damn(and I have documented evidence of this) they why should I stand beside DogsQld and those who can call themselves accredited. They shouldnt of even be allowed in. But hey if you are saying we should all unite and join, then heck why dont we all. I personally dont believe DogsQld truly has the members as their main concern. Yep big allegation. But until they convince me otherwise those are my thoughts. If they did they would not of put this upon us without proper membership consultation. They would not of sent us this ballot(yes I know a different subject) asking us to respond in such a short time. How come members never even received a ballot paper? why wasnt this sent out with February or Marchs' journals. Its our damn money they are playing with isnt it? I paid $190.00 for our memberships this year. Why shouldnt I moan about paying more when I receive not much in return. And my membership HAD to be paid before the end of November.
  7. Please get your friend to attend some shows. There is a Bulldog show at Durack on the 30th of April. There is also the Queensland Bulldog Club to contact. Details are on the Bulldog breed page on DOL. They will have to save their pennies though. There are some great breeders out there. I am not breeding at the moment and havent for a few years but should your friend wish to ask questions feel free to PM me and I will see if I can help. The MOST important thing I can stress with finding a breeder is research research research. Dont just go with one breeder at this stage. Talk to a few. Find out all they can about the breed, health requirements, feeding, general care etc. Be prepared for these new puppy owners to also be asked many questions about their lifestyle, their ability to care for a Bulldog for its lifetime. Best of luck
  8. Late 1970's through to ??? 1990 our dogs were fed Lucky dog roll, Winna roll and Tux dog biscuits. NZers will know those ones. It was actually good dog food way back then. Our dogs were very healthy and kept good condition
  9. Sorry but I didnt find it funny at all. ;) The vet said it was kind of like an lsd trip. well yeah it IS very much like an LSD trip and I doubt any sane owner would ever contemplate letting their dogs lick a cane toad. Note I did say sane owner. Bit of a story if you ask me And yeah the toad looked fake as. Toads do not sit like that, well unless they have been squashed But still
  10. There is no rule to say that she wont go into labour on the Friday. By the sounds of it she is due in less than a week. Bitches with large litters can whelp early or on an expected due date. If you have something very important on, on the friday, which means that you wont be home then I would suggest getting a competent friend in to watch her and to contact you if necessary. She should not be left for long periods of time unsupervised at this stage of pregnancy.
  11. Tigey Is this your Bullmastiff/Rottweiler bitch that is due to whelp?I was going to suggest that you contact your bitches breeder but then saw that you had posted in another topic. How old is your bitch? Not being unkind but did you realise that this breeders forum is for registered purbred dog breeders? At what age did you think your Mastiff would be old enough to sire a litter of puppies. Did you not realise your bitch was in season? and think to keep them both separated. Bitches can conceive up to 5 days after an actual mating has taken place as a guide though it could be 2 days. And yes they can go over 63 days or under. With all the books you have read and the adice from your vet you should have some indication on the signs to look for. I wouldnt be introducing the male to the pups at all at the time after they are born. He doesnt need to see them. You will however need to make sure the bitch is kept as quiet as possible while feeding etc.
  12. Gosh It is quiet here now Obviously nothing new to add from anyone
  13. Allora vets is owned by Warwick vets well it was 15 months ago when I had the two girls speyed :D Havent been there since Gtjell try Highfields Veterinary Surgery Kuhls Rd
  14. Jane is a very good vet. havent seen her for awhile. She is very approachable. The Allora vets are owned by The Warwick vet club(unless she has brought him out, but last time I knew she was only working there) Unfortunately it is 45kms from where I live so would be over 60kms from Toowoomba itself. May not be good for emergency situations.
  15. And the thing with that DSO is this......Were you happy with the service? Was it want you wanted with your furkids? Did you feel you got value for money? If yes, then that is great. It is your money and you spend it how you wish. This year I have shopped around to find a good deal for my budget and for my dogs.
  16. Sorry you feel that way Stormie and Danois. I didnt actually start this thread for you to moan like you have about what some owners prefer when it comes to vaccination time. There are many owners out there who are very very competent in assessing their dogs health and needs. Please dont belittle them just because you may work at a vet clinic. I am not a vet nurse. I am not a vet but I sure as heck am very capable of looking after my dogs well being. And by that, if I only wish for my dogs to have their injections then so be it. Lets be honest. Many vets do over charge as is quite evident in mine and other peoples findings. Lets face it some vets are actually incompetent and their opinions seriously do need to be questioned. You only have to read the horror stories that people post about their vet experiences to realise that. I choose what is best for my dogs. I choose what vet I wish to take them to and what services I would like them to do. I dont just take them to any vet though. The last time my older dogs saw a vet was for last years vaccinations. and the vet came to my house as she was also a large animal vet on a call out. I have had my young girl now for 15 months and she hasnt even seen a vet here yet. She will see one for her booster. Does that make me uncaring. No. It means that her and my oldies are actually quite healthy and havent had a need to see one. My young girl cut one of her pads awhile back. I didnt rush her to the vet because I knew it was not serious enough and it healed perfectly with treatment. I am sorry that people do have a budget to work to and want value for money.
  17. What are your requirements? What are you looking for exactly in the way of a vet. PM me the name of the vet if you like. I have just discovered another vet(little bit further away) that may be the one for us.
  18. I have just had a great phone conversation with a Vet Clinic today. And they have given me a great price to vaccinate my dogs. The main vet there is also a breeder and I was informed of their other services for hips, elbows xray, c sections if need be etc etc. It is only a few kms more away from where I normally go locally but the price saving far out ways the extra amount of petrol.
  19. Only thing it says is that there are obviously people in your area who are not being responsible dog owners and not vaxing their dogs for parvo. Every responsible dog owner I know, knows that vaxing is just one of those things you do regardless of costs as it is in the interests of your dog's health. Do you think it says something else?? Of course it says something! It also says that in one area where there is parvo rampant the price is x amount. In another area where a vet doesnt rip people off but there will still be cases of parvo the price is xy amount. xy amount being half the price of x amount Go figure
  20. I do respect vets Stormie. Always have done, to a point. But I dont just suck it up. To set in my ways to do that. I have vaccinated dogs myself back home. I know of other breeders who have vaccinated their own dogs. Does that require a check up. Of course it does. Our own check ups. And not every vet should be a vet.
  21. But that $20 will only cover one vaccine, eg C3, not a C5. We couldn't even buy the two for that cost price. Each individual annual C3 costs us about $11 EACH. The triennial costs us about $15-16 I think. So add that to our consult fee of about $56, and for a C3 you're looking at about $67 - $72 for a C3 vaccination at cost price. Considering our 'retail' price is about $78 - $89 for a C3, I don't think we're really making that much? And as I said, this is just a C3. Add another of the same approx onto this again for KC and a bit more if you want intranasal KC. eta - I guess I am just lucky I work with an awesome awesome vet who really isn't it in for the money and I forget that there are still plenty of dodgies who are. It gets a bit disheartening sometimes when you work so hard to build up your new clinic to be everything people would want it to be, only to read day in day out that vets are only in it for the money, robbing clients etc. Just sometimes feels like you're fighting a losing battle and whether it's really worth it reading topics like this. So if I bring say 3 dogs into your vet surgery will your vet usually charge each dog a consult fee? Which is included into the price of the vac in most cases. I just got told tonight of a friend who went to have their pups vaccinated at a vet and paid $180.00 each Needless to say she almost had kittens
