  1. Fitness is pretty easy to achieve with a GSP. They arent still long enough to get unfit - at least mine arent.. Daily training once at the higher levels includes fairly consistent jumping certainly helps with the associated retreiving games that are the reward, Long games of frisbee most mornings, walks for my fitness as well. Off season lots of swimming and free running in the bush and parks. Trips to the chiro happen whenever I get the feeling something is not quite right usually with the older of my two thanks to a shoulder injury when she was young. Both get to go along and get checked out working under the premise I'm there so might as well.
  2. I know what you mean Ptolomy felt all wrong not having a dog last night - almost naked Was terrific to be finally able to put a face to the name. Looking forward to seeing you again in this neck of the woods for the Nationals next year. The lights were a pain - there was a new set only used for the first time on Friday night at training where they worked fine but when it really mattered at the trial most couldnt cope and went out and the lights in the club house also decided to join in. A visit from the electrician is definitely on the cards for this week. Apart from that it was a glorious night for trialling for the first time in what feels like months NOT FAIR!!!! Why does my girl have to decide to finally come into season? So we now wont make it to any more trials for this year and wont come back into the ring until late Feb or early March.
  3. Depends on where we are - if the car is close she's there. If its a hike then out comes the crate and she is in that apart from lap cuddle time (she is a bit of a sook). get her out and start to warm up when the dog before is in the ring. I'm lucky I can toilet her on verbal cue which we always do on the way to the ring before getting the focus.. Then its in the lap of the gods
  4. Sounds like a great weekend everyone. Congratulations!!!!
  5. I bought parts for mine direct from Oztrail. Were not that expensive and delivery was very quick.. Found them online via google.
  6. Was talking to someone last night at a trial and they mentioned that they are unable to find anywhere in CCCQ regulations about the use of prong collars. Said I would ask on here for them. I was absolutely certain someone would be able to quote chapter and verse for me where it states the controlling bodies position on them. thanks in advance..
  7. Maybe you need to try wine BEFORE your next trial!!! I'm a bit nervous about trialling tonight... got some crazy wind happening and am worried that it may cause Ella some trouble with her seekback... I guess we'll see in a few hours! Well the wind died down and we had to deal with the muddiest, boggiest conditions I've ever trialled in and she found a different way to blow her seekback - by having to poo half way through it! Arrgghh!!! It would have been an OC leg too if she didn't do that! At least she still worked for you Nic. Not like a certain Miss Coco who thought zoomies in the mud instead of doing a SB was a much more fun way to spend the time
  8. Huge congrats everyone!!!!! Especially bedazzled and Brookie
  9. Not sure what I am going to do with Coco. Tonight in the wet apparently sitting was optional.. And have fixed the bar jump issue but tonight we balked at the last second at the solid jump. She has been training the house down so why oh why is she mucking up at a trial? Does she need a break?? And if one more person tells me that "thats UD" I am going to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!
  10. Maybe try turning like you do it in training? If you slow it down in a trial and not in training that might be why she is going past where she should be. She is expecting you to go faster and is going on training not actually watching your leg?
  11. WOOHOOO. You are on a run now. Will we see you next week at Logan?
  12. [quote name='Ptolomy' date='24th Sep 2010 - 09:11 AM' post='4833898' and what a great feeling it is. So whens your next trial? A week away. Still heaps of time for something else to break
  13. Had one of those training sessions you would love to bottle last night.. My super hyped girl seemed to realize at long last that this is serious and not a game, so kept her enthusiasm but seemed to buckle down and really concentrate and work. I didnt feel like I only just had control of her by the thinnest of strings but that there was never a doubt she would do it like I know she can.. Am feeling very content this morning.
  14. You win you are the craziest of the lot of us ;)
  15. Trained in the rain, the heat and the cold. Done the under car headlights thing once. Half dark is a regular occurence but I figure that means she really will use her nose for seek back. Most dedicated (or dumbest not sure which) training 3 days post shoulder surgery.
  16. Congratulations to all on the other side of the country... Some seriously nice scores!!! RS I know exactly how you feel about that down stay..
  17. Know exactly how you feel.. Better luck next week.
  18. About 45 minutes from Durack, on the north side of Brisbane and very easy to find. Bells Pocket Road, Lawnton - try google maps. Are you thinking of the trial on the 30th October?
  19. I started metals with a tea spoon at the kitchen table dipped in whatever I was eating. No pressure and not a metal "article" in site. They get used to the feel and taste of metal without any stress or pressure. Even just licking a bit of milk off my breakfast spoon was a major treat. Took it slow and seemed to work even with the bird dog who took 12 months to retrieve a wooden dumbell cause there were no feathers attached. LOL
  20. That food is not the only possible reward.. Learnt the hardway with Pip. Oh yeah and learning to learn..
  21. Not so good. Trial 1 she blew DJ (nothing else wrong), Trial 2 idiot handler who shall remain forever nameless said "heel" at the start of the signals (nothing else wrong) and trial 3 we withdrew after DJ as she couldnt stand stilll from the weight of all the flying, biting things that were swarming in the ring, despite multiple applications of aeroguard. On the plus side her scent work all weekend was awesome despite on occasions rain, howling gales, 26 degree heat and the local insect populations. On the down side 400 km each way for no quallie is a bit disheartening. I am starting to think we will have one seriously proofed girl by the time we get it all together at least that is what I keep telling myself otherwise things are going to take on a desperate look. Once again well done Nic, I knew you guys would get there soon!
