  1. I switched to the pre-made Dr B patties about 3-4 weeks ago now (was making my own). Sooo much easier as far as prep time, freezer space and cost. $10.90 for 12 patties from one place another place charges $14.90 This last me roughly two weeks or sometimes just over as he gets a fish day, fast day etc. 1 pattie for 1, 10kg dog is the recomended amount - Harves is about 8-9kg so i just give him a whole one.
  2. Roughly about $5.20 a week Thats just for BARF supplies bones about umm errr $2 - $4 usually lamb necks, chicken necks, lamb flaps etc some fish... say $2.00 - do have a bag of kibble most of the time in cupboard not at the moment though *mental note should pick some up* but a bag of that would last me months as i don't use it often. so about 11.00 or so a week. Small dog, a Westie.
  3. My Boy is heading to the groomer on Friday - he loves his groomer and vice versa she loves grooming him as he is behaved and easy to do. Have been reading through this thread and honestly can't believe how people could hand their dog over to someone to groom is such states I couls never and have never done that.. i'm a bit paranoid taking him like he is atm - no mats or anything or even dirty , just alot of coat at the mo that needs a striiping, but she hasn't seen him in a while.. i did warn her that i attempted to 'trim' around his eyes but stuffed up - she just laughed but not to do it again to "her boy" LOL. You groomer out there all deserve a pat on the back for dealing with these types of owners.. i don't know how you do it.
  4. Harvey bashes the kong along with his paw and pushes it with his nose then picks the treats up as they fall out. For harder stuffed king he just outs his butt up and tilts the kong.
  5. cream cheese/cheese is fine - if your dog isn't use to it,just small amounts at first. Am going to try the banana, yoghurt and honey one, he likes honey and yoghurt so banana will be good me thinks. I always have some treats on hand, either dried lamb hearts or liver so i put that is with a bit of cheese and i seal the end with vegemite or honey or each end something different.
  6. I bought my boy a cat  not for everyone though. Kongs are great filled with treats - if you freeze them then it will take longer for her to get the treats out. Sandpits/pools if she is into that type of thing. Lots of toys to keep her busy etc. Although i do suspect that both my Boys (dog and cat) spend the day snoozing.
  7. Not to hijack. :D But does anyone have a dog that doesn't eat grass.. i honestly can not recall seeing harvey do it.. He probably has once or twice (to throw up) but i cant ever remember seeing him do it , within the last year or so..again he more than likely has a chew when i am not around but i never see him just stop to have a munch.. is this a bad thing? Not being a grass eating dog? Everyone else seem to do it
  8. Well you make a hole in the 'eyes' of the coconut to get all the milk out, pre heat the oven pretty hot - around 220c, keep an eye on it, should take about 10 minutes, just wait till there is at least one crack on the outside of it, it then breaks up really easily with a hammer ( i put the coconut in a plastic bag to hammer it so you dont loose too much all over the kitchen ). I then put the peices in cold water to cool of then they all eat it - i dont really like coconut EDIT:- to make the holes in the eyes a phillips head screw driver works well.. bashing it with the hammer... me real good in the kitchen
  9. My boy, actually the cat too, love coconut. NOT the packet stuff though, i buy a coconut, drain the milk, blast it in the oven and crack it with a hammer. I have the Dog, the cat and the OH all hanging around in the kitchen for pieces of it.. Apple seeds are apparently not good for dogs. I tend to also stay away from citrus fruits too.
  10. My thoughts are with you. Please give Stewie a hug from harvey and me.
  11. do you mean at the Great Western at Keperra LB?.. rather drive there then to paddo as parking sucks... ETA:- i have always been under the impression that feeding BARF there is no real need to add sups? basically if i add anything it will be a bit of yoghurt, some vegemite in his Kong, honey sometimes and a splash of apple cider vinegar and thats it.
  12. OUCH alright.. GAWD that would have hurt..poor baby. Hope she starts feeling better soon. Good luck with trying to keep her quiet.
  13. Well, you're getting the $$ back anyway. Give it to mother dear it will eb good for the little guy she has. But, i might just add that you let you dogs be fussy, they turn their nose up at one thing and you go and offer them something different, they have you wrapped around their little paws.
  14. Yep, that makes sense, thanks. The necks i seem to get are HUGE (now does this make sense) - the necks i get are about 20-23cm long and about as thick as the bottom part of a beer stubby, is that big for a lamb neck??, He likes them so i guess i will continue to give them to him.. good for his teeth, i suppose chewing anything for a long time would be good for teeth . Thanks for the heads up about the Osso Bucco, will check them out first before i buy them, or just buy them and do what your BF does for the Cat LOL.
  15. Will have to check these out. Thanks. And Turkey necks so, off to woolies i think Harvey had another lamb neck last night, this one was different it was cut length ways in half.. and that took him about 10-15 mins to have that just about completely gone (yes, i took the last nobbly bit away from him ) he is getting heaps better with chewing (i think the lamb necks have helped with this), i am the one who has to stop being so paranoid LOL.
  16. DOL is a great place and learn about diet (and all dog related stuff) books "give your dog a bone" By Ian Billanghurst and others (can't think LOL), also Websites like the one ML gave the link to. Edit to add.. My Vet, she recomends feeding BARF, RAW diet whatever you want to call it. If you type in BARF in the search thingy heaps of info will come up. Lots of reading. Groomer is at The Gap. Lovely lass, Harves loes her, then again he is a bit of a tart and loves everyone.
  17. "PetWise has the answer" (now i have their jingle in my head) All of Harvey's food is bought from the supermarket (fruit and vege), butcher and lenards chicken shops. But for dry food (kibble - i think i got that word from DOL )I like PetWise and Produce stores and I have a place near me that is convenient for treats and stuff. Also online places is good for worming, flea stuff and grooming tools. EDIT:- if you are wanting (when he is older) Mr B to be professionally groomed, Harvey's groomer is great. She is on the Northside, really nice.
  18. See, he is weird, he will chew his breakfast (minced carcass with fruit and vege) which you would think he would hoover down as it is hooverable (?) but he doesn't instead he will gulp a chicken neck. So thats why i was giving him the lamb necks so he could just give them a good chew for his teeth which he does but never has fully eaten a lamb neck. Now i am reading that semi-toothed dogs can eat lamb necks Perhaps the lamb necks i get are harder? or perhaps the HOURS i seem to think it takes him to chew it up isn't in fact that long - may be because i supervise the lil gulper it just seem to take sooooo long. Not the most interesting way to spend an afternoon LOL. (although when the cat comes to try and steal the bone it makes for some interesting viewing LOL)
  19. And with PetWise you can Subscribe to their newsletter and get points.. The more points you have th more $$ you can save of things. PetCity.. ehh, well if you cant find it (a product) anywhere else you can be pretty sure that she will have it there, but yes, rather expensive and i would rather spend my money at Petwise then with them.. but hey, could be just me. Food - I feed my by a home made diet, chicken,vege/fruit, fish etc etc with occasionally some kibble . Currently i am using Supercoat chicken and rice but am wanting to change to eagle pack (hard to find but am onto it LOL) Here is a Dry Food link
  20. I think i will have to start shopping somewhere else. My shop sucks, no turkey, no sliced lamb neck. They do have lamb off cuts but all they seem to be at the moment is fat with a little meat.
  21. Turkey necks sound like a goer! Thanks guys Kez, Now i am thinking my dog is just HOPELESS LOL. The lamb necks i get are about *gets ruler* 20-23 cm in length sometines a wee bit smaller. They are also quite thick. I would ask the butcher to cut them but he seems to get annoyed that i buy my meat from the supermarket and dog stuff from him
  22. Turkey bums hey, can't say i have seen them around . I have seen Turkey Necks at the supermarket (coles), they are single pre packed one.. "give your dog a bone" or something similiar, perhaps i'll pick up one of them. haven't seen wings or any other Turkey parts though.
  23. Yep, he gets chicken wings 'sometimes' thats another one he can GAG on, they're more the cats 'thing' really LOL. I think i will pick up some more this week and give him another go at them, he gets minced chicken carcass as his main diet, i guess its more me being too concerned (paranoid :D ) about him choking after a few instances, so lamb necks are good as far as that goes because they are big enough that he cant swallow whole. It is like he needs to learn to CHEW the smaller things .
  24. Harvey can eat chicken necks, although is known to swallow them whole and gag so i cut them up or bash them a little (he has bone issues LOL) Lamb necks are harder i guess... but how long should it take to fully eat it?? He is a West Highland White Terrier.
