Thanks dogdude. I have some very wonderful experienced trainers and triallers that help me an awful lot and we tied to do everything right but his brain was switched off (so what can you do) he is very young and we are all learning how to train a greyhound because it is not the normal obeidence dog and there are just some things that don't work for him and so we have to think of other tatics. He is highly treat driven but even yesterday with the heat he was not interested. I also have a very experienced trainer doing personal sessions with us at home and we are wonderful so it just goes to show what can happen on the day and how the dog feels. I am not making excuses for him or me but out dogs are living breathing animals that do have a mind of there own and sometimes they just put it on! But in saying that we are going to start on the body motoivation with him and see if that will help him. Oh and maybe out next trial can be in the dark when it is cool....

I have been ready your post and trying to put myself in your shoes as I too have just entered into our frist obeidece trial with my lovely greyhound puppy (17months) today and as I have never been to one before hoping to the dog gods that he got recall without zoomies...alas we didn't do very well as he refused to drop and well the sits where if he felt like them and recall wellllllllll he did come run past me and come back and sit so I was ever so proud of him no points. He nearly made sit stay until an ant crawled up his leg so he dropped. Stay drop was perfect but with 31 points all day out of 100 we didn't get a pass. In his defence it was 31 degrees and only 2 out of 13 passed, most not working so well with the heat. Hopeing we all do much better in the coming year with lots more practice. I have never been so scared in my life and nearly starting crying and I am 40.

I second that. Take the little fella to a chiropractor.

Teaching Dog To Jump
Yacket's Mum replied to voloclydes's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
My greyhound wont jump in the back of a wagon when his neck is out. So I know he needs to see the chiropractor again. Might be worth checking wont do him any harm! -
I feed both the mackeral and sardiens in oil to my greyhounds every sunday night and they love it and it is good for there coat.

Yacket's Mum replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Hi to everyone who will be attending the workshop I have been reading with great anticapation your treads and have to say I am looking forward to putting names to faces. I will be joining you all with my 16month old greyhound Biscuit and if you think your dogs are bad wait until you meet Yacket.....lol... We have been to camp tailwaggers a few times before and the veiws are amazing but the drive seems to go on forever but worth it. -
I fully understand your nerves...You think training a bull terrier is hard try training a greyhound who loves everyone and everything and wont focus! ;) We have been in class 2 for a year and the trainer has no intention for moving us up to class 3 until we have reliable recall ;) not happening in any near future....he loves monday night zoomies to much... I do wish you all the best and remember have fun with your fur kid!

I would say give it a go. Just look at it as having fun and everything eles is a bonus. I completly understand how you feel though. I am in the process of learning all these things and doing beginners agility with a Greyhound who is not breed or designed for these event so I know the hill you are up against. But I am giving it a go and having fun doing it and while he is also enjoying it we will continue. PS he is made as a cut snake being 13months old and I don't know how to get past the instink of taking off if things look more interesting on the other side of the field so we have challenages ahead to. Maybe we will met each other in the ring one day and have little champions with us!

How Often Do You Wash Your Dog?
Yacket's Mum replied to APBT's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I wash one of my greyhounds once a fortnight because he is a grot and when he dose zoomies around the yard he then goes and plopps himself in the clamshell water (even in winter) so he tends to get honkie. The other grey once a month and when we get foster dogs they get done once they arrive. -
I am doing beginners agility with my 13month old greyhound puppy at Jimboomba on wed nights and he loves it and we have been going for about 3 months now. It is learning all the signals change overs and names of the equipement and they learn a very small version of the big one until they are old enough. Good luck it is heaps of fun.

Clicker - Where Can I Get One?
Yacket's Mum replied to woody2shoes's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I bought my clicker from Big W and it has 3 different loudnesses (sorry probably not a word) that you can put it on... Working a treat for Agility. -
:D Sorry I find that very funny as my greyhound puppy is chewing off the yard muzzles on our foster dogs....He ate 3 in 2 days....grrrrr So I know how you feel. I to do not have collars on our dogs for safety reasons and puppies will be puppies... While we are assessing new greys who have there muzzles on we now also have to muzzle my pup so no accidents happen...

Even if I am a member of a dog obedience and we have just starting taking lessons in agility do we still have to be a member of the ADAA? -

Can beginners have a go at agility over the weekend? If so is there a brand new beginners section we can enrol in for a bit of fun? -
