oh and also, Clipperworld are prob the best and cheapest option for blades. id stay away from ebay for blades, generally speaking...
-
personally i dont like ceramic blades. yes they dont get as hot as quickly but they also dont cut properly if at all. i try to avoid them. Never heard of Delerium blades? if you have the Wahl km2 i would stick to the brand name blades (Champion/Oster/Wahl). yes they are more expensive but will last you much longer, cut for longer (providing you look after them), and are just better quality in general. i would also stay well away from anything Shear Magic, for the same reasons as the ceramic ones. But that is my personal opinion...

I had the same issue with my dog! get her to the vet asap, as she is very constipated and they will need to give her a suppository to get it out. if you dont take her its dangerous. its caused from the bone. if they are too big they cant digest them properly. and being a puppy, anything bigger than its head is way too big! for the dog with this problem, i would try to avoid marrow bones too, as this can happen again. hope this helps, good luck! :D hope the pups ok after the vet!

I also used to go to Monash Vet with my dog, who was getting kennel cough a fair bit, but they would not give me any solutions to the problem, or even suggest a stronger vaccine for it (which i didnt know existed), however, the final straw was when my dog had to get a small warty thing removed from his leg, they stitched it ok (not fantastic but ok), but as it was in a awkward position it opened up a little, so i took him back, and the vet put several staples in the spot without even putting a local anaethetic in there! needless to say my poor dog was NOT impressed, and neither was i!! I changed vet to Brandon Park Vet Clinic (on Ferntree Gully Rd). They are absolutely amazing there! they know what theyre talking about, and they all love the animals that go in there. You can tell theyre not being fake about it too! I try my best to see Claire (one of the vets), as shes absolutely amazing with my dog, always very welcoming, and knows what shes talking about, and gives options for what can happen!! This is something i appreciate alot. Yes, they are slightly more expensive than what Monash are (or used to be when i was there), but IMHO, its worth it to pay slightly more and get the right diagnosis, than be slightly less expensive but having to keep going back! Definitely a vet i will be sticking to for the rest of my animals' lives!

How Many People Use Conditioners On Their Dog?
luckypup replied to giraffez's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Conditioner is mainly used just to make the hair sorter and easier to manage...i like to use it on long coated dogs that may need some dematting as it helps detangle their coats and also replenishes it a little and stops it becoming as damaged from the knots. There are leave in conditioners but i think they're usually sprays? dont quote me on that lol...i always thought Aloveen conditioner was to rinse out but i havent had much experience with it so dont quote me on that either lol -
biogroom anti-stat is great too

Fidos Free Itch Rinse Pyrethrum
luckypup replied to Baby Dragon's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Sorry I don't understand what you mean, when you say leave it on for 10 mins. Do you mean that you wash it off ?. I just use it in the Hydro bath all over the dog even in the ears, it's a beaut cleaner for that and then just leave the dog in it's yard to dry. I think they are talking about the shampoo As it is a rinse, you leave it to dry on the dog. I have been using it for years as a flea rinse, very happy with it . love the smell yes im talking about the Fido's Flea Rinse Shampoo (thought that was what this topic was about lol sorry if its not...) you leave it on the dog for about 10 minutes to kill all the fleas -
Fidos Free Itch Rinse Pyrethrum
luckypup replied to Baby Dragon's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
it works amazingly but you do have to leave it on for about 10 minutes and DONT GET IT IN THE EYES as it is a poison so very dangerous!! however its a temporary flea relief...only kills the fleas on the dog but if it goes back into the flea-ridden environment they will go straight back on! Dunno if anyone has noticed or is it just me...are fleas becoming more resistant to flea spot ons and shampoos?? seems you have to leave the shampoo on alot longer than you used to and spot ons take longer to work or arent as effective! Maybe its just me lol -
Outta curiosity T-Time, what does adding it to food/water do? How long have you been using it for? Where do you get the cloudy Mother stuff from and how often should you be using it in the ears? I had never heard of using it before but i definitely want to try it now that so many people have said its great!! Any and as much info is appreciated! thanks!

i was told but cant remember which really annoys me lol sorry...hope someone else knows...i will try and find out today
-
i was told today by one of my clients whos dog always has constant ear infections, that apple cidar vinegar diluted with water (in right quantities) is working a treat for her dog!! she puts it down his ears and it flushes them out! when i looked at his ears they were almost completely perfect!! all the bacteria was flushing out nicely and looked 200 times better than every other time i have groomed him! has anyone else tried or heard of this remedy? have you had the same success? would love to know!

Unfortunately id probably have to agree with you Redarachnid!! i felt like this year was a complete disaster, and a waste of money! And a huge disappointment was that Challenge werent there! They normally are the major sellers and make a fortune there but i was told they are saving themselves this year for the Pet Expo in QLD, which i can understand but also must say i was truely annoyed at this!! They are the big sellers of a lot of equipment everyone else doesnt stock! And all the topics this year were a complete waste of time! In fact, i was almost falling asleep in most of them, bar poodle and handstripping! I will definitely be reconsidering spending sooooo much money next year, and definitely not going every day! For that price i just didnt feel i got even HALF my moneys worth!! Badly run and badly developed! Missymoo - Ausgroom was this week - june 21st-23rd (24th was the bus tour) But personally i dont think you missed anything!
-
Hey all you groomers out there...Just wondering who went to Ausgroom this year and what you thought? What did you enjoy most/least? Personally I loved all the handstripping sems but generally was very disappointed with the trade show and some of the topics.

Dakota - 1st day home - 9 weeks old 8, 9 or 10 months? lol not sure exactly Now...2 years old

you can buy a type of anti slip spray for your dogs' pads. they use them on show dogs sometimes in the ring. not sure how it'd work on tiles though...might be worth a try though rather than spending a fortune doing your floors? also make sure the hair in her pads is cleared away. good luck. hope that helped

Personally i love the Wahl Switchblade clippers, but you can have some trouble with the chords, but if you're not using them that often then you should be fine! they are a variable speed clipper, and are called a switchblade due to the fact you can change the tongue yourself! If you are wanting something simpler, i would recommend the wahl km2. again, if not using them too often they will last you ages without too much trouble, providing you clean them properly and take care of them. (as with any clipper). Personally i wouldnt recommend any Andis clippers, as they are very slow and have a tendency to break/fault quite easily. The difference between normal scissors and grooming scissors, is the grooming scissors are designed to cut dog hair with good precision, sharpness and durability. Also, the holes for your fingers are completely different! they are small so that you can fit the tip of your thumb and your other finger (one next to pinky) in each hole. its important you do only use these 2 fingers for cutting (your thumb should do all the movement). the other fingers are for balance. if you use your index finger you can damage your hand and wrist and end up with carpal tunnel. I would suggest for a beginner perhaps trying the Wahl scissors. they are reasonably cheap and do the job fine, especially if not grooming too often! Without knowing how long you will be wanting to grow your schnauzer, a #7f for the body (or #10), #10 for the groin area and ears, and #15 or #30 for pads will be the main blades you need. these can also be quite expensive. I think Clipperworld will be your cheapest bet for everything!! I hope this helps! Good luck!!

i use Canex and find its quite good. my dog eats it without any issues. Usualy the pack says how many to give for a certain weight. check the pack labelling.
-
So would the #10 leave the hair longer or shorter than expected? leaves the hair longer and i also find doesnt give as neat-a-finish to the dogs. #30 gives the true length. also just remember coats need to be perfectly clean and knot free when using attachments. If you pull through a knot with these you will have a big hole. lol good luck
-
Hey, i find that a #10 blade doesnt give the true length that the guard combs are meant to give. Any #30 is fine, doesnt have to be the championship blades!!! I would very strongly advise you do not use a #40 as they will break the blade in a heartbeat (speaking from experience) Also just to give you the guide, yellow is equivalent to 1/2" light purple = 3/4" green = 1" light blue = 2" In relation to the normal black plastic combs. wouldnt really bother with the others unless you wanna go shorter than a #4f blade. Hope this sorta helps

What Solids To Start A Puppy On?
luckypup replied to ownedbyamstaff's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
i have never used Eukaneuba and never plan to just because it has grains like wheat etc that dogs cant digest (same as for Hills Science Diet). it also has a sort of caramel addative to it which is also not good for dogs (sorta like Schmackos - full of sugary products which is why they "go wacko" and love to eat it so much). My nana had her dogs on Euk for a long time and they got overweight from eating it (even thought she was sticking to the required amounts to feed), and the vet told her to take them off it. Royal Canin is a good food, however make sure you get the right food for the dog. They have breed specific foods, or general foods which also work. Personally i think a raw diet is very good to feed dogs, as they are carnivores and need meat. (you wouldnt see wolves in the wild looking for dry kibble lol) i know that sounds odd but think about it...and even if your friend decides to go with kibble only, try and make it interesting by adding a little chicken or something to it. Sardines are a personal favourite of my dogs...fantastic for coat and digestive system (as well as a raw egg for this purpose) - just the cheap cans from coles or somewhere...just to keep meal times interesting! i wouldnt like to eat the same thing every meal... being a large breed of dog, make sure she gets the right amount of Protein to help the puppy grow properly, and only small, frequent meals so it is not guzzling its food and getting tummy aches. i hope this info sorta helps a little... -

What Solids To Start A Puppy On?
luckypup replied to ownedbyamstaff's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Eaglepack is a very good medium - high quality food. it is all very natural. i feed my Heeler x Coolie on it and he does very well. his coat is beautiful and he is a good weight. if you are wanting a more natural diet for the dog, chicken and rice is always a favourite, along with Kangaroo (no fat), beef, ox cheek etc, and bones! just be careful you are of course only feeding raw bones, as cooked bones can splinter in their systems. Also ensure the bones you are feeding arent too big for the puppy, as too much bone can make them constipated and get stomach issues (i found this out the hard way when my dog decided to eat an entire bone i wasnt planning on him eating entirely!) Good luck! what breed is he? -
Groomer Near Emerald Victoria?
luckypup replied to poodlemum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
hello, Im not exactly sure how far away Emerald is, but i currently work at a salon in Elwood. We have over 7 std poodles who i absolutely adore, and i have won an international grooming comp grooming a poodle. we have poodle clients from places as far away as Colac who refuse to go anywhere else since having me groom their poodles. If you're interested i can post up a couple of my grooms for you to see? or PM me. I also do dog colouring if you are ever interested in that separately (i dont know if you like that but i loove doing it hehe) -
Try some histamine tablets if you're desperate...i take Telfast as the same thing happens to me. it doesnt happen when i take the Telfast, but it is an easy, yet drastic measure, however, being a dog groomer its unavoidable for me lol good luck deciding what to do!!
