Goldies Behaviour When Husband Comes Home?
ILK replied to Snowball's topic in General Dog Discussion
Yes. How sad society has become so fanatical that we have to put a stop to such special interaction and while were at it we must remember that we can't sing "ba ba black sheep" anymore. -

A Surprise In My Brother's Border Collie Litter! - Updated

Beautiful! That is very descriptive :D I like people who help out like that!! Wow..... Extremely helpful information. I can see exactly what you mean by these descriptions. Wonderful information:thumbsup: -
What sort of a sicko has an injured dog and wants to ejaculate it into a condom for conception.... All seems a bit unrealistic to me

Unfortunately for me if a dog attacks my boy goes into attack mode immediately. It is quite scary. I just avoid people with dogs that I don't know. He is very social & well behaved with good dogs just not rude or aggressive ones. I have had a couple of instances that have been quite scary. I'm just lucky that my dog is obedient and can be called off. The other dog owners have a lot to learn and then get all upset when your dog fights back. It's a joke really.

Agreed - a good powerhead is the only way to go. I have cream plush carpet with a chocolate kelpie

My dog is an indoor outdoor. He would spend all his time inside if I allowed it, because he loves being near us. We have a big yard so he spends alot of time chasing birds & bats running & sniffing. He gets a minimum of an hours free run at the dog park once a day as well as ball throwing in the yard. We have two teenagers so we spend alot of time outside so he gets heaps of company. He is an extremely high energy working breed. Living inside permanently would not suit him at all.

I tried a halti, didn't work. Tried a Easy Walk Harness, didn't work. The Easy Walk Harness worked at first, but he became immuned to it. Ended up with very extensive check chain training which worked. I now use a martingale and he is a great walker. I still need to correct him occasionally, but he knows when he is going to pull. I always know when he is about to pull because I notice that I get a glance out of his periferal vision Try a fur-saver check chain like Secret-Kai suggested.

I undersand your anger LisaB85. Irresponsible dog owners really get under my skin. You are well within your rights to be angry and shaken up. It will be an unforgettable experience. There are many many irresponsible owners out there. I am one for preaching the rules on off leash dog parks, but it seems that only a select few people have consideration for others and actually follow the rules of the park. Any breed is scary in the hands of a bad owner and any breed is divine in the hands of a good owner.

Wow. I've never seen a collar like that before...

No Jeanne it isn't because peoples dogs are not well socialised. My dog has been socialised since he was a pup. He doesn't like rude dogs running at him full speed and he doesn't like being over-sniffed. He can become quite D.A with rude dog behaviour. Other dog owners in dog parks seem to think that everyones dog is as friendly as theirs and until you have the experience of owning a D.A dog you may never understand. It has nothing to do with socialisation, it has to do with dog personality. Some dogs are less tolerant than others. As I said, my dog is well socialised and tolerant of polite dog behaviour, but he won't tolerate rudeness at all. Edit to add. He also won't allow a dog to run at me high speed. This is the first dog I have ever owned that can be D.A and it isn't easy primarily because other owners don't understand. We do group obedience and agility. My dog is very well trained with a brilliant recall and I can call him in the middle of a game or chase, he turns on a dime. The problem occurs when I call him the other dog continues to chase at high speed, the other owner will be calling & calling to no avail.

If a dog jumps on me it gets my knee firmly planted in it's chest. If I have my child with me it gets my foot in it's face. One of my dogs is a jumper, there is no excuse for allowing it to jump on people in parks. Dog parks are no place for kids. Throw the baby in a pram, clip your dogs on a lead and go for a walk. I am surprised they didn't bill you for the dry cleaning, I would have! I have to agree with Clyde here. Everyones space should be respected and allowing your dogs to jump on someone else is very disrepectful. Doesn't matter whether you are in a dog park or not. It is a public place and everyone should be able to move around freely without disturbance. I would have been horrified had I saw the models get jumped on. People with no respect are the reason that people like me have been driven away from dog parks Everyone except for the children you mean - because Clyde said they shouldn't be in this public place :D Everyone should be able to move around freely. But that does not mean everyone should do whatever they want (including having picnics in the dog park, cycling, skateboarding etc) if that impinges on the rights of dog owners who come here to exercise and socialise their dogs. Running children fall into that category. A dog park is built for a purpose. A road is also a public place, but it is for a purpose. You would expect to be able to drive peacefully on a road without being bothered, but if you expected to have a picnic on the road, you would be impinging on other people's right to use the road. I don't see any contradiction there. I will clarify my thoughts on this:- Having a picnic in the middle of a dog park is ridiculous, as is taking small children who are terrified of dogs for a bike ride or a walk through the middle of a dog park, especially if one doesn't have a dog. It s a public space that is specifically set out for people to be able to exercise their dogs off leash. On saying that, the rules of a dog park are that your dog must be under effective control, so if your dog runs off and doesn't recall or jumps on people and doesn't recall then you as an owner are breaching the rules of the dog park and your dog should not be off leash. This is the reason I believe small children should not be there. It would be a wonderful place for small children if everyone had their dogs under effective control and kept their eye on them. The problem is that tooooooo many people allow their dog off leash when the dog has no recall or discipline because the owner is too busy socialising with other owners & has no clue where their dog is or what it is doing. The other is that people think it is funny if their dog just runs up to another dog and sniffs a bum for far too long or jumps on people and they find that laughable. Why would you put your toddlers in that type of unpredictable environment.

Yeah it's sad...... Dogs & outdoor cafe's are such a pleasurable experience. Its a damn shame...

I'm not a fan of busy off leash dog parks at all. I don't even go to them anymore. I certainly wouldn't allow a small child to walk around. The problem is that you are relying on other peoples dogs being well behaved and that is not always the case. Other owners are not always responsible either and most of us have come into contact with irresponsible dog owners - off leash dog parks are renowned for occupying irresponsible dog owners.

You're right that is hilarious Hey, What's a cotton pickin yokel edit coz i put picking & it didn't have quite the same impact as pickin. -
I agree with the advice given. I think your friend needs to use common sense and be sure the dog can't get to the smaller animals. It is not fair to anyone that this is occurring. I can see the awful cycle here which is - dog tormenting then killing smaller animal, children getting upset that one of their pets is gone, dog getting in to trouble for behaving negatively. I find it concerning that from you post this has occurred on more than one occasion. This needs to be corrected asap. My dog would spend all day trying to get into smaller pet cages if he had access. What a fun game that would be for him.

Its a terrifying thought, the possibility of your dog being stolen & used as a bait dog. I agree with you sandgrubber. I think accurate information would be much more appropriate in this situation.

I know - one of my closest girlfriends has a cav.... There is no way she could forget it's quite a sight You knew what i meant then ! I sure did. Her dog quite often demands a snack or a dog biscuit throughout the day. She really puts on a performance for a snack too. Walking backwards and forwards to where the food is kept, scratching at the cupboard, nudging & pawing you, letting out a bark or a growl. Making stareful eyecontact and wagging her tail. I've never seen anything like it I've heard that is very common for cavs.

Nope didn't know it existed until recently. I would have used it about a year ago when a poor woman got verbally attacked by many dolers. It got shut down, but approx 24 hours later someone started up a thread to find out what had happened in the previous thread and that one got shut down too :D I find most of the fiery debates amusing, have even partaken in a couple myself with enjoyment. Sometimes I actually wonder why threads get shut down - they don't seem offensive to me
