In the summer time my boy gets a bath every fortnight in the backyard with the hose by me. The heat and rain seem to make him more smelly. In the cooler months he gets bathed by my "dog lady" who comes out about once every 4-6 weeks or when I call her as she bathes him in a trailer with warm water. He much prefers her warm baths to my cold hosey ones. He hates the hose, I have always wondered if that is because he is a pound dog and I saw them hosing out the stalls with the dogs in them.

Yeh. I have not been able to train her in a lot of things doggy as she seems very timid and unsure and runs off when i ask her to do a lot of things. A legacy of her past, I'm sure. But the little eveyday things she picks up. I've got her waiting at doors and gates for the go-ahead, and "targeting" eg she's got used to nudging a door open if it's part closed - instead of standing and complaining to get me to do it! DH has trained her to "ask" before she opens the screen door to come inside. She would have been awesome if some bugger had not put the fear of doG into her at some point during her first 4 years. She is awesome isn't she? You have shown her what love is and she has prospered from it. My boy is the same. He is a very timid kelpie if you saw him with my OH you would sware he had been hit by him, it is very sad to watch. The truth is he is much loved and no-one in this house would do anything but love and pat him, he doesn't cringe with anyone else so it must be a male thing. It is all a product of his environment before he came to us. It took him a long time to let me pat him without being as still as a statue with his eyes closed. He knows we would never hurt him, but there must be some things that are instinctual to them when horrible things happen to them especially at a young age.

well my colleague signed up for 12mnths @ $25 per mnth.I thought that was very thoughtful & generous. Thx for all of your assistance. With all the research we have done we heard more good and there was no definate bad from anyone.

Thanks Jed and welcome back. Your wealth of knowledge has been missed.

Forgive my ignorance, What's HSUS?

Thanks for your input. I had a look at that link Lab Rat thanks for that. I've never heard much about WSPA and of course people who know me ask me first as I have such a passion for animals. I know that WSPA helps bears that are farmed for their bile, but I couldn't be sure if they operate like some of the not so desirable organisations. My colleague genuinely wants to help, but she will take my word as gospel. She wants to join and make ongoing donations if I give the go ahead. No pressure much

Hi All, I asked in off topic, but I didn't get any answers. Please just give me your expertise on WSPA for my work colleague. We are looking at a WSPA stand with a bunch of young guys trying to get people to donate $$. My work colleague wants to make a donation, but doesn't know anything about WSPA. Please tell us why she should or shouldn't donate.

Great vid and clearly a fit, happy & very body aware dog. I think the owner should lay off a few of those tricks though, there are some definate accidents waiting to happen there. I'm sure the dog would be just as happy doing tricks that are less thrill seeking, but I loved it none the less.

Hmmmmm I like reading rants because you learn alot of knowledge & different opinions on subjects. I even find it therapeutic to have an odd rant..... Don't really get informative reading from a rant about rants, but it entertained me for a moment

lovely and very sad story. I wonder if the original woman was telling the truth. If a strange dog rescued me and my child I would surely adopt and so would anyone I know. I am sceptical about this story.

My OH saw this on yahoo tonight and called me over. He said "This is one mean lookin dog-check this out" If that photo is the actual attacking dog that is really scary. That is a frightening snarl.

Very Sad & Disturbing. I can't understand how anyone no matter how low socio-economic they are could treat these animals in such an appalling manner. It bewilders me that any human could be so cold hearted & cruel.

How drunk would one have to be not to notice that a body part is getting eaten off
