Ingroinal Hernia Repair - Brisbane
puglvr replied to macdolly's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I had a girl in my last litter. Sold her normal (owners were made aware of the inguinal hernia and still wanted to go ahead with buying her). My vet wrote a letter describing the condition ect and his advise re: desexing and repair. Owners were made aware to watch for it getting bigger or painful. Their own vet wanted to operate early but they chose to follow my advise and wait a bit longer. When she was speyed the inguinal hernia had repaired itself. We refund $300 of our selling price when the pups are desexed, repair of inguinal hernia should not cost a great deal on top of normal spey unless it is complicated. We had agreed to pay any extra if needed. -
I think mine is a hydrohaven bath. Had it probably 12 years. Still going fine. I have found the fibreglass on the iside is wearing away a little but I think they said they can resurface it. Single tank and heater. Never had to do anything to it (touch wood)

My girl had suspected AIHA but the test came back inconclusive. she was treated as if she did. She had a blood transfusion because she was about as low in red blood cells as you could go. I think she was on medication for a month and then gradually weaned off. She has never had a problem since. She was 8 months at the time. She is 8 now. She has never been re-vaccinated (not even 12 month booster). She successfully had a litter of 6. Will never know if it was AIHA but she was one very sick dog at the time.

Ours have all these things plus a contract which outlines things such as desexing requirements, price ect. 1 copy for them and 1 copy for us. Breed Standard and extension. Info on known/common diseases. State Govt Regulations pertaining to the Private Keeping of Dogs.

The dogs didn't seem to mind the tablets in a ball of mince but I can't just swallow tablet/capsules so i have to chew them. Oh they were aweful!!!!

I've had it twice this year. First time it started with 2 dogs then ended up with all 14 plus me!! Let me tell you the Flagyl tablets are the most horrific tasting things in the world. I crushed mine in ice-cream. Second time caught it early but treated all dogs again and stopped the diarrhoea in its tracks. Now our problem is that we are on tank water and it is obviously getting in there via birds. We have treated our water with a product from DAVEY called Aqua Safe. we are also trying to find a suitable filter that is 1 micron to go on our tank to stop it. I put my old pug (Coming up 14) on Protexin and this has helped her wonderfully. She has it daily now along with a couple of other oldies. I buy it by the kilo from K9Direct.com.au Best price anywhere.

Maybe try using something like Aloveen Conditioner. If you can mosturise the skin and stop/lessen the dander it may help your chest.

Yes I had a boy who had a brain injury as a 4 week old pup. At one he started having seizures. He was put on medication and the number and severity of the seizures decreased. The biggest thing with dogs having seizures is that it is very taxing on their bodies and also does more damage within their brains. Their internal tempreture can rise which is not a good thing especially for a pug. The big factor he is not the seizures you see but the ones you don't. I do think your dog needs to be on medication. And a full blown Grand Mal seizure is a lot worse that what you are describing.

Cosmolo, I realise that and all the above should be applicable to these breeders as well. We shouldn't be only concerned with "this current litter of pups" we should be thinking of possible future litters. And this should be foremost in Bully Breed breeders especially. And yes it should be in the minds of any possible puppy buyer. Ignorance is no excuse.

I don't have anything against APBT or their owners infact. I don't agree with the legislation as it stands. But as it stands it is illeagal to breed APBT's in Victoria and has been for awhile. In fact I believe that when they were initially banned they were meant to be desexed. So where are these dogs and crosses in Vic coming from? Yes, I realise there are places in Aus where they are not banned and you could argue they are coming from there. So are these breeders being responsible allowing their pups to be bought by people in Vic? Do the breeders really have their pups best interest at heart? What are these breeders doing to ensure their pups aren't falling into the wrong hands- of people deciding to breed from their pup (whether it be "pure" or cross). (Desexing pet pups would stop this) The fact is the law is here. If you are a breeder in another state - would you breed an APBT and sell the pup to a Vic buyer? I would hope not. In all honesty if you lived in Vic would you buy a pup that could be mistaken in the future for an APBT or cross? I truly feel for the people caught up in this. This situation has come about because people choose to flaunt the law and now others are paying for it.

A friend had the same problem with her pug. They put her under to thoroughly clean the ear and found she had a perforated ear drum. Threated from that angle and everything is getting better.

I happen to agree with m-sass to a degree. I don't support the situation as it is now and feel for the people who are fighting for their dog's life just because they look like a pit bull. However, if the Pitbull is a breed that is not allowed to be imported or bred, and have been so for so many years then why are still around? Why are they still being bred/crossed? Why aren't people kicking up about that? The fact is people breeding them are breaking the law. Why aren't we holding them responsible if tragedies like the Ayen Chol case occur. Why is it that the flagrant disregard for the law is accepted in some instances and not others? eg: It is against the law to drink and drive, drive unliscensed and use a mobile phone whilst driving. However normal everyday people do these things and think they are okay. Why is that? It is against the law and people would be up in arms if someone doing any of these were responsible for Ayen's death. Just food for thought.

Which Flea Treatment Do You Find Works Best?
puglvr replied to Blakbelgian's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I use Frontline and have done so for probably 15 years. Don't have a flea problem and I have 14 pugs. I don't use it monthly either mostly in summer or if needed. -
Report them to who ever is running the website and inform them that they are doing wrong by allowing them to do this if it's contrary to law. I did this on Trading post.

We had a bout of Giarrdia earlier this year - this is spread by birds. In our water supply. Dogs and I all had it. Treatment with the worst tasting ABs ever. My old girl who is 13 was still having issues some time after everyone else. I put her on Protexin and she has had lovely firm stools ever since. I found the best place price wise to get this is from (www.k9direct.com.au). I was paying nearly $60 for a 250gm tub from horseland!!

You know what. Find your potential bitch and be prepared for his response. Tell him not to worry about who is who and who did what. Look at the dog, and then when he points out the bad, counter with the good and how if there is a fault that maybe your boy is strong enough in that feature to improve it in the pups. Show him you know the breed as well.

Male or female. We had a boy done at 8 months. He had a retained teste. Anyway he had none of what you mentioned and it ended up being quicker than they thought beccause the teste was just outside the scrotum. However when we have girls done after we have decided not to breed with them, they do have extra fluids and painkillers but not necesarrily the blood tests. Depends on their age.

All my pugs (don't ask how many) are fed raw beef mince, Black hawk dry, and rice and Vegies. They have Prime Dog roll for Breakfast. They are raised the same on this as babies with the exception that I put it through the mincer again to make it finer, and also start them on Advance Puppy ReHydratable. Also with the babies I do use Nature's gift canned puppy. The reason i do this is so people do not end up with fussy pups. Sometimes you find yourself in the position that you may have run out of fresh meat or forgotten to take it out of the freezer. So I recommend that they have a small can of something the pup likes in the cupboard just in case.

This is the information from the stuff I have been using for awhile. from "naturalscienceca" on ebay GLUCOSAMINE FORMULATION FOR DOGS From Natural Science NOTE: PRODUCT IS SENT FROM AUSTRALIA SHIPPING IS US$15 WORLDWIDE; US$10 WITHIN AUSTRALIA. Bulk Product - Up to a Year's Supply (see table below) Powdered Product. Sprinkle on food or dissolve in water Each 2 grams contains 1500 mg Glucosamine HCl, 400 mg MSM, 80 mg Ascorbic acid, 6 mg elemental manganese (as sulfate) No fillers, almost tasteless, completely water soluble Pharmaceutical grade ingredients manufactured under GMP New product direct from manufacturer Optimised Formulation for Dogs Many dogs suffer from joint pain, which is very similar to that suffered by people. Some dogs breeds such as Labs, Golden Retreivers, Bloodhounds, St. Bernards, Boxers and Rottweilers are particularly predisposed to arthritis due to age-related cartilage degeneration. The most common form of arthritis in dogs, especially the breeds mentioned above, is osteroarthritis. Osteoarthritis in dogs is a slowly progressing disease that occurs due to the breakdown and destruction of your dog's cartilage. As it gets worse, the bones begin to grind against one another causing pain, reducing flexibility, increasing inflammation, and reducing mobility. Another common form of arthritis in dogs is something known as “Canine Hip Dysplasia” or CHD. This is a painful and crippling disease that results in a weakened hip joint in dogs that causes painful inflammation and decreased flexibility. Many vets now recommend glucosasmine for both osteoarthritis and CHD. CHD not only impacts the hip joint but also the knee, shoulder and spinal joints. Symptoms of CHD and those of osteoarthritis are very similar and glucosamine has been shown to be beneficial for both conditions. Glucosamine can greatly benefit a dog's joint health and ensure that they are mobile and active. Glucosamine is found in cartilage and synovial fluid and is a normal constituent of your dog's glycosaminoglycans, which form part of the ground substance of connective tissue found throughout your dog's body. The majority of clinical studies on the impact of glucosamine on joint health in dogs has been carried out using glucosamine hydrochloride, the form chosen by Natural Science and used in our formulation for dogs. MSM has an established history of benefit for decreasing inflammation in animals, including dogs and horses, and so is provided in combination with glucosamine hydrochloride. As in humans, manganese and vitamin C have been shown to improve the clinical performance of glucosamine in osteoarthritis. Therefore, we also add these ingredients to our dog formulation. Recommended daily intakes are made to be consistent with the weight of your dog. Arthritis Symptoms in Dogs Symptoms of osteoarthritis and canine hip dysplasia in dogs are: •For smaller dogs, yowling or grumbling when lifted or handled •Lameness •A lack of motivation to move •Stiffness •Increased sensitivity to touch •A marked change of behavior •A faint popping sound coming from the back legs with each step •Difficulty getting up from a lying or sitting position •While moving, moving both rear legs in unison •Difficulty climbing stairs •A painful or violent reaction to an extension of their rear legs •Play or exercise taking more of a toll than it used to •Reluctance to walk, climb stairs, jump, or play •Hiding or disappearing from sight •Whining or making noises for no other reason Many dogs afflicted with osteoarthritis or hip dysplasia will likely have problems walking up stairs, slowness in rising, lameness after exercise and they can show personality changes due to their ever present pain. Dosage Information Natural Science Glucosamine Formulation for Dogs is provided as a powdered concentrate. There are no fillers used so that 100% of the powder is active ingredient. Therefore, dosing is relatively low and one container can last for a long time and is considered a bulk product. For example, for a relatively large dog of between 50 and 100 pounds one container of Natural Science's formulation will last for 170 days, or nearly six months. For a smaller dog of between 10 and 24 pounds one container will last for 340 days, or nearly a year. A reference chart for recommended daily intake per body weight is provided below. Give one serving per day to the dog. Serving size will vary as the weight of the animal increases. Each container has a table showing the number of scoops per day for your dog based on weight. One gram scoops are provided inside the container for convenient dosing. Powder can be sprinkled on dry or moist food, or mixed and dissolved in the dog's water dish. All ingredients are water soluble and relatively tasteless. She should have been wormed regularly by the breeder and it concerns me that all this information did not come with her "puppy pack". she should be due for her second vaccination shortly (around 12 weeks) and will probably be wormed around the same time. and the vet will then advise on regular worming practices. I ask that my pups are desexed at an appropriate age- usually around 6 months, unless there is a good reason to postpone. It is sometimes advisable to wait a little longer to give the pups head a chance to grow and then possibly establish if there are any issues like "stenotic nares" - narrow nostrils. Take a look at http://www.pugclubvictoria.com/ it has a lot of good information.

How small are Pom babies when they're born? Beautiful pups.

How is he pooing? I had one who at 3 weeks...ish, started being difficult to feed. Wouldn't drink off mum and was "sitting up"- like stretching upwards, Thought he may have some sort of pain - infection, so took him to the vet. He was breathing "funny" and they thought he may have had a diaphramatic hernia. Nothing showed up on the x-rays but he had barium meal, which caused a lovely big poo. I think he may have been constipated because he came good after that.
