Okay a very long stab in the dark. We had a puppy with a liver shunt and he went blind but his vision returned aver a few days. This is how the liver shunt was discovered. He was 7-8 months at the time. A blood test for this may be worthwhile

Yes, I'm sorry, I fully understand and I didn't mean to critisize, Swiss shepherds, White GSD's ect. When I replied I was keeping it "simple" for the sake of the OP and I was referring to the definition I used. I should have in fact used the term "registered purebred" I should also have said "In Australia" I have bred GSD's and so i'm aware of the issues. Also, in America there are "Brindle Pugs" that are registered but are certainly not purebred. That's why the Pug people worked so hard to prohibit the registration of these dogs here in Australia.

I hope all is going well with the pups and mum. Can't really offer any new suggestions but I would be putting a complaint in to the AVA about the vet who would help. That is disgusting!!
-
I think you answered your own question. "Purebred dog refers to a dog of a modern dog breed that closely resembles other dogs of the same breed, with ancestry documented in a stud book and registered with one of the major dog registries. A white GSD cannot be "on the main register" and therefore will not have papers issued for any progeny so therefore it cannot fill this criteria. Yes technically you will still have a GSD but it cannot be classified purebred.

Advice Please, Puppy Won't Gain Weight
puglvr replied to nikrhithokaylin's topic in Breeders Community
You could also look at letting him feed seperately from the other but use one/or all of them to do the work for him and get the milk down. Once it's down let him feed on the 'good' nipple so he is not using all his energy. -
Hi BB, can I ask is group 1 inside? Haven't shown there in a while.

I recently returned from Europe. While i was there we went to Harrods. I couldn't wait until we went to the 'pet kingdom" section and was prepared to spend. I was almost physically ill to find "Pure bred pug Puppies " for sale. And here's the price 2,200 pounds. Not dollars pounds. That's nearly $4,500!!! And these were not good pug puppies. I took photo's because I just couldn't believe it. They had "Chi's" as well and "griffies" Do you think I could get an answer when I asked their "expert animal carer" where the puppy came from? No and even the lady next to me repeated the question but no answer. But what can you expect from someone who wasn't even aware that the pup he was holding was a he and not a she!!! I couldn't buy anything from there and left in an extremely stressed state.

WAY TO GO LIZ!!!!!

Well i can only recommend my two vet's Ulrike Wurth and Kim Lim from the Highton Vet Clinic. Specialising in Chiropractic,Acupuncture and Chines Herbs as well as "traditional vet services" I had a GSD who hadn't eaten in 3-4 days and took her to the vet. She felt along her spine ect, got to a certain point and the dog whipped her head around. Acupuncture, and the dog was back eating that night. Diagnosis was the dog had somehow twisted/tweaked her diagphram and found it painful to eat.

Pyometra Information And Advice Needed Please
puglvr replied to justicesmum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Was treatment successful? She wasn't treated for pyo as such. She had "closed pyo" for about 2 1/2 weeks because we could not work out what was wrong with her. She started showing symptoms about 14 days into her 3rd season and was put on antibiotics straight away. She was her usual self and would eat and go for 2 km walks ect but her tempreture would go up and she'd shiver ect. I wasn't until I was taking her back to the vet for about the 4th time becuase she was leaking and we thought she might have a urinary infection that the pus started to come out. Her utereus even after it had expelled a lot of pus weighed 1 1/2 kilos. I do have a friend who had an bitch with pyo and she went down the same path you did she had one litter and then it reoccurreed and she had to have the bitch speyed. -
My pug girl is a "finicky eater" i know hard to believe. When she was in pup and while she is feeding pus she will devour chicken thighs. I have to buy in bulk and pan fry them and then remove the meat I also use the fat in the pan mixed in. She then progresses to eating them mixed with her normal food. I have also found tha these work for the "lovelorn' boys when the girls are in season.

Pyometra Information And Advice Needed Please

My only experience with Pyo was a 15 month old bitch who was the last from her mother. She had had 3 seasons and when I spoke to the repro vet she advised "she wouldn't let the sun go down on pyo" Treating with "whatever was not even bought up. She had closed pyo but it had opened. We had her speyed. -
My best experience was I had a phone call from an older man, who had been referred by another breeder. He has always had pugs his whole life... his daughters were named after much loved pugs. He had just lost his old black pug and was feeling his loss quite badly. He rang, we spoke and cried together and he said he would ring when the pups were older and organise to come and see them. he rang the following night and asked if he could possible come down on the weekend. As the pups were only 1 week when he came he just sat and looked at them. He pointed to the one he liked and I held it up for him to see. Long story short, Sinbad has the most wonderful home, with a lovely gentleman who loves him dearly, spoils him rotten and keeps in touch with photo's and phone calls. Sinbad is coming up 2 in feb and I know I'll get an e-mail with his birthday pic. That's what I love about breeding.

I have a girl who had it. her blood count was just enought to keep her alive so she had a blood transfusion and was on immune suppresants. lHowever the susequent blod test came back as inconclusive. She was kept on immune suppresants and then gradually weaned off. She was 8 months old when this happend and is coming up 7 now. She has not been "sick" since has in fact had a litter of pups. It may not have been IMHA so maybe you will be lucky and you dog may be the same.

Best place to buy the rolls from is Tasman meats, but I don't know if they sell the mince or not. we buy ours directly from Prime.
-
I think I'd be off to the vet for a check if it's possible. If everything is fine and she still has a way to go then no problem but if it's not......
-
Have you tried the Prime dog roll www.primepetfood.com.au/ our dogs love them and they smell god enough to eat.
-
Just wanting to know what Dog Biscuits people use. I mean the "treat ones" not normal dry food. We had been buying "Supercoat Baked Bones" in the 5 kg boxes but it seems we cannot get them any more. They were a terrific size for the pugs.

My votes for Vic Hewitt. Yes he keeps us pug exhibitors in line, especially at the pug show. Also the fellow with the red beard that often does group one around Geelong, Colac and Ballarat.
-
Had no trouble with our pugs in the trailer. it is a trailer with big berths so 4 or more fit in each bearth quite comfortably. Our Deerhound is scared of thunder and gunshots so if any of these things are happening she goes and hops in the dog trailer.. it's her safe place. We leave a door open for her all the time.

Pug Club of Vic Champ Show. I even organised my trip to Europe and Crufts this year so I would be home for it !
-
I work at a school and I'm the CDL to most people who know me. I've dragged friends around the world on "holidays" so I can go to a dog show..... this year Europe and Crufts. I have been lucky because my last two principals have understood that the dogs are our family and if I need to go off sick or will be late or have to leave early because the dog is sick than that is fine. Besides they get the pleasure of meeting the baby pugs on "show and tell" day.
-
We are entered but depends on the weather. I've got 5 pugs entered and will have 2 more exhibitors with me with 4 pugs..... is that enough?

He could very well have what is called Cerebellar Hypoplasia. We had a little pug with this and it was very much like Cerebral Palsy. She wasn't to badly afffected and had a "funny" gait but was otherwise fine.

Looking For Acupuncturist, Vic
puglvr replied to shoemonster's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Yes I use Kim Lim and Ulrike Wurth at the Highton Vet Clinic too. Ulrike also does a lot of lecturing in the field. One specific incident I recall was with my GSD. She is normally a good eater but for a couple of days she was being a bit "picky" eating and just seemed not her usual self. took her in for a check. Ulrike went over her and when she was examining around her abdomen area, Buffy whipped her head around and growled. Diagnosis was she had somehow twisted/hurt her diaphram. So did acupuncture. I was a little sceptical and asked when should I see an inprovement with her appetite. Tonight!! Took her home...... wolfed down her food back to normal.
