Saying it is good actually being a member is right. Find out their Prefix, and their registration number and then you could check if they really are.

Dogs Victoria Wanting To Take More Decisions From Breeders.
puglvr replied to Steve's topic in Breeders Community
Half of the breed club committees who don't have a clue on breeding want to play power games and pretend they aren't straight up bullies and all I hear is how this will stop back yard breeders - what about the dogs? What about treating breeders as if they have enough concern for the welfare of their dogs to make informed decisions based on what they have in their own back yard? I take offence to this comment even though it is not directed at all club committees. I know in our case we got member feedback and even though some members wanted an 18 month limit we looked at all possible scenarios and went with the 12 months having enough faith in our members to do what is right by their dogs. Have you considered that people need to aware of what's going on and if there is an issue they need to be in contact with their breed clubs and put forward their views and not just jump up and down when things aren't going the way they like. So if you have an issue with your breeds age then get onto the breed club and do something about it. -

It is the minimum age, so not before that age, not they should be mated at 12 months. I know the Pug Club was consulted so I am assuming the other breeds were too. We sent out a questionaire to our members and made our recommendation based on that. -
Well it goes without saying that pugs are the ultimate cuddlers. They pile on top of each other or have to sit so close they're touching. The record for most pugs on the trampoline bed is 9 - they just couldn't fit another one in.

I have 2 of Rob Kemp's trolleys. A 2 birth and a 4 birth. I had to put different whel on the 4 birth but that was because when you put 4-5 pugs in it the combined weight can be almost 50 kgs and the original wheels weren't designed for that.

Hi Helen, It's me Jane I've got all the pugs you could want. Just let me know. Oh and I'm out near Winchelsea and you know Ted is very photogenic.

Do You Have Dogs That Look Identical To Each Other?
puglvr replied to Moselle's topic in General Dog Discussion
People are always asking how I know which dog is which. I have 12 pugs and theya re all extremely different to me. My last litter I had 5 black girls. As they got older 3 of the girls were very hard to tell apart so I had to write 1,2 and 3 on their bellies so i knew who was who. -
I think things have gone a little off track but to me its appears that "not showing" isn't the issue. It's if you have the intention. If you can't show due to you personal circumstances eg. distance, age, family commitments that shouldn't be a problem. If you have the intention/desire to show and put your stock up for scrutiny (in whatever arena) then you shouldn't be labelled a byb. But there are people out there registered and unregistered who have no intention to ever do this, and that is the difference. Personally, I believe if you are well intentioned then you should be aiming to "show" you dogs at Breed Specialties (if available) under international specialists. Winning or placing consistently at these should be an indication that what you are doing is on the right track. I'm not going to go into working dogs as not all breeds are going to be involved. By the way, I have competed in Obedience and Agility. I have a NADAC titled Pug and also a pug that has participated in tracking. I live on a farm and can appreciate value of the "working dog". Can I just ask who or What is "the uni"?

I have 12 pugs. One had surgery last Dec to resect her soft palate (even though it was thought to be normal size it was actually quite long) open her nares and remove saccules. She didn't appear to have any airway problems up until about 6 months prior when she started to make occasional "choking/gagging" noises. She is 7 now and doing very well. I think I'll start adding the Chondroitin to her food as well- couldn't hurt. My older dogs are on Glucosomine+Chondroitin and MSN and I also add this to my puppies food from when they are weaned None of mine have had any patella problems.

I don't know why the pug seems to get pointed out as not having a purpose. They are companions and have been for hundreds of years. They have also been around for hundreds of year and yet people seem to think they are unhealthy - yet they have survived as a breed longer than many breeds have existed. Jed is right, you can't go into breeding pugs lightly. You have to know about diseases/conditions such as hemivetebra, entropian, PDE ect. You have to know about elongated soft palates, Bracaecephalic airways, and the importance of selecting for good wide and open nostrils. Good breeders don't want to breed dogs with problems. But sometimes despite best intentions problems occurr and good breeders learn from this and pass on their knowledge to others and are always trying to learn about things even if these problems don't/haven't occurred in their lines. I think people need to take a step back, and look at their breed standard. Look at the history developement of the breed prior to the breed standard being written and then ask themselves "what is the intention behind the words" For example Pug Coat: Fine, smooth, short and glossy neither harsh off-standing or woolly. Was this description written to distinguish the coat from the coat of the Peke or the Pom. I fail to see how these words imply that the Pug has a single coat. I have never seen a Pug with a long coat (a Peke has a long coat) Yet there are many varying interpretations of what this means.

We get cards from our clinic. They have also been very good when we've had to have someone pts. A lovely touch from Werribee (the teaching hospital) when we had to put Pockets to sleep. They took her from me to take her and get her ready to take home. I gave them a blanket to wrap her in, which they did but they also had like a burial "cover" for her. It was a beautiful blue "envelope" with an end that folded over and was fastened with a gold tassle. It was a lovely touch that showed they understood she wasn't "just a dog", When my boy Max died after complications from eye surgery, the vet who operated on him rang me the following dya and cried her eyes out and apologised for what happened and then for making me cry. I heard she was distraught about it but she didn't even do anything to cause it. I never got a bill and they sent me a card and Max's lead and collar, that was left at the clinic when he was transfered to the specialist.

Don't know about platnium dog roll. I use Prime 100 www.primepetfood.com I'm lucky I actually had a tour of the processing plant and spoke to the person who cooks it. I don't feed it exclusively but it makes up part of the diet along with fresh meat and vegies and dry. I have no qualms feeding it to me dogs and it is also part of my puppies diets.

Letting go is the hardest thing. When you have to make that decision it is aweful.I know I had to make the same decision for my dear old Errol (pug) and Pockets (pug) and even though it is painful and hard, down the track it becomes easier when you know you made the right decision for them.

At our last specialty show (march) and before I became Secretary we won 4 classes. Best Black Dog, Best black Bitch, Best Puppy and Opposite Limit. We also had 2 placings. The Black Classes were Judged by the emergancy judge and the others obviously by the International Specialist. All my dogs either won or were placed by two different judges. I know there was probably "talk" but it would be nice to think that someone may have "Gee, isn't her breeeding program working."

I leave the heating pad in with them until they are ready to move into the "big pup" area. That is they are now too big for the whelping box. Usually about 4-5 weeks but the still have hot water bottle of a night time.

I'm so sorry for your loss Puggawuggles. It is so hard to loose a much loved member of the family and that is exactly what Doug was. All of us who own and love pugs feel your grief and pain because for most of us it's something we have gone through. Just remember how much you loved him and how much he loved you and you carry a piece of him everywhere in your heart. Jane

I have just taken over the role of Secretary of our breed club. We have a nomination/voting system in place for judge selection. We always have an International Specialist and so from what I can gather nearly all the contact is via e-mail or letters. As far as I'm concerned the judge has no idea who I am until after the show.. They are picked up by someone on the committe who is not showing. I do not have a website or anything so they cannot see who I am even if they wanted to. Part of my decision to take over as sec. was that it wouldn't stop me from entering our show which I think are more important than All breeds show. If I couldn't i don't think I would do it. Those people who know me know that I step in the ring with my integrity intact, and those who care to say different, well their opinion doesn't count.

Mystery Ailment. Any Suggestions Please?
puglvr replied to pebbles's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
a couple of years back I took my GSD to the vet because she had stopped eating with enthusism and did appear to be herself. no outward signs of anything wrong. The vet felt her over and touched a spot somewhere near her diagphram(sp) and she nearly tok her head off. The vet gave her acupuncture and when I asked when to expect her to be well she said Tonight. Took her home, gave her her food and she was back to her normal self. Vet suspected she had somhow "twisted or hurt" her diagphram and the accupuncture fixed it. One of my pugs came down sick and she would hunch and have a high temp. Never could figure that out but seemed to resolve itself after about 2 months. Older GSD kept coming down sick. Eat, poop everything else normal except for temp slightly high. Ended up she had pneumonia and her lung collapsed. Took 3 months before the answer to that was found and only because he lung collapsed and she had a very blue tinge. The vet's could never figure out how she got it, but I traced the start of her illness back to her yearly vacc booster. After we stopped having vaccinations the dog never got sick again. -
Yes a friend lost 3 in her litter. Had an autopsy done on one and it was found to have a very bad e-coli infection. All remaining pups were already on ab's so their dose was increased and all were fine. General chat with my vet about this and she said the main root of infection was probably through the umbilical cord. We always dab our umbilical cords with "Betadine or Vetadine" at leat twice a day. May be worth trying this and having the others on ab'.
